I fail to see how the use of "lucrative" as an adjective is a pejorative expression for the income one generated from one's trade or profession.

"Lucrative" carries the implication that the remuneration is higher than would be expected from the task at hand, which can be a good thing (if you are advertising a job or selling shares) or a bad thing (if you are disparaging the effort or risk put in by the person thus remunerated). No need to be obtuse about this.
