Cemaphonic
Interestingly the manuscript of the book itself had a somewhat adventurous fate, apparently the polish original got lost, the history is in the wikipedia entry. Habent sua fata libelli, indeed. The author too - he was one of the first people to ever fly in a hot air balloon, and he committed suicide with a self-fashioned and priest-blessed silver bullet because he was concerned that he was a werewolf (well, that and suffering from depression.) There is a fairly decent movie version of it from the 60s titled "The Saragossa Manuscript." It leaves out a ton of the storylines but still successfully conveys the nested storytelling structure of the novel.
Mysterio
Anyone read Cynthia Leticia Smith's vampire series? Been thinking about picking that up. And I just recalled Ben Bova stuff, the Orion series. I lack two books, but I actually like the series.
