How "Gay" will the show get?

87 posts in this topic

I have posted previously that I am not a fan of how the producers are going to make Renly and the Knight of Flowers openly gay lovers.

whend I first heard that I was pissed. I do not want or think

that they should have explicit homosexual scenes in the show. Do NOT call me homophobic, I am honestly stating my opinion and would like others on what they think. I think this is a political ploy. Also I find having to watch gay sex on tv disturbing and gross. If it is in context, like Six Feet Under it is fine, but just to appease the LGBT community is the wrong move. So what is the majority opnion here?

Also does anyone know how graphic the gay scences are going to be? Please do not post anything perverted or lude.

I'm all for super-gayness in GoT. I just like romantic interests to have chemistry in a show. Like Keith and David from 6 Feet Under (and Kevin/Scotty from Brothers and Sisters).

I thought Lafayette and his boyfriend (in True Blood) were terrible together. No chemistry whatsoever that I could see.

I can't wait to see how these actors connect.

So what you don't think homophobes would honestly state their opinion?

Pretty gay. I'm imagining a 'Brokeback Mountain' style "Enis and Jack's first sexual encounter in the tent" type scene for Loras and Renly.

I hope they don't make Renly and Loras' relationship to obvious because it wasn't in the book. When I first read the books I thought Loras was in love with Renly in much the same way Brienne was, unrequited, and that Renly was sleeping with his sister and wife.

Appease the LGBT community? Political ploy? What are you on about? Renly and Loras are gay in the books and will be gay on screen, it's as simple as that. It's HBO, so of course there will be sex. Just happens to be on screen this time instead of offscreen as in the books.

There will also be lesbian sex scenes, is that 'disturbing and gross'?

If you don't like it, don't watch. BTW, your remarks are homophobic. Who else would describe homosexuality as 'disturbing and gross?'

It's almost common knowledge among more well informed characters in the books that Loras and Renly are gay. And since we'll get to see many scenes that aren't directly related in the books, I don't see how it's a problem to have a explicit scene of the relationship. Do you have problems with heterosexual sex scenes? If not then you are spouting homophobic nonsense. This is HBO, it is explicit, if you don't like that then there are more than enough sanitized programs on the networks, you can always catch Two and a Half Men reruns on CBS.

Hopefully really, really, really gay.

Which is to say, pretty much not at all - there's one (1) gay couple in the series, both are tertiary characters who only appear in a handful of scenes each, much less together, and their romance just a point of background characterization and (so far at least) not like a mojor plot point or anything. I have to agree, I find being annoyed that even that much "gay" makes into the story fairly homophobic.

Well if you're not homophobic then your opinion sure is <_<

i don't believe it's a move to appease anyone if gay characters are portrayed as gay, it's just common sense.

Someone who thinks witnessing gay sex as gross. Just because I don't want to watch a couple of guys have sex does not mean I am homophobic. I would say you are little too sensitive here. And the lesbian scenes are written in the book.

Well, you don't have to worry, then, cause there won't be any actual gay sex: this is HBO, not the Spice Channel (or whatever equivalent is for gay porn). All the sex will be pantomimed.

Right they are not major characters so the only reason they will be showing there gay scenes is to appease the LGBT community. Also some of us in this world, are not hate filled losers, but just don't like in your face gay sex. Its repulsive to most straight men, nothing wrong with that. Nothing to be embarrassed about that I don't like seeing that filth on TV if it is not within a proper context, and its just to make some perverts happy. And yes if you are excited to see these scenes then you have problems. However if the scenes were in the books, and they were put into the show, I would not say a word and would enjoy the programming as is.

If you don't want to watch two men having sex, but you're okay with any other pairing (or grouping involving only one man), then yeah, it means you're probably homophobic. (Particularly if your willingness to watch two women having sex is dependent on how attractive you find them, making it titillation for a straight man, rather than actually representing two lesbians who DGAF about any random man's opinion.)

But then you think that George should write so fast that nobody in the real world dies before the series is finished, which I think would currently mean finishing the series, getting it printed, and getting it distributed all in under 30 seconds, so there's that, too.

Yeah, obviously.

'Filth'? 'Repulsive'? 'Perverts'? I think we're through here.

Why ever not? Maybe you don't fear homosexuality, only find it "gross"? I'll agree with an earlier poster and say bigot is probably a better word.

The only problem I would have with a straightforward portrayal of Renly and Loras' relationship is that that's not how it happened in the books. In the books it's kept at least semi-secret, and so I would hope it would be portrayed that way in the show. Other than that I do not find the concept of it "gross".

The Loras and Renly scene is extremely physical. Almost nothing left to the imagination. That was an education.

How exciting, i don't see why straights and lesbians should get all the fun.

Renly and Loras being gay is actually pretty important to their storylines - it explains why Margarey could still be a virgin, why Loras is unweddable, etc. It's not just for shits and giggles. And the thing about their sex is that they actually love each other, unlike Tyrion and his whores (which will also be shown). The reason that there isn't a graphic sex scene in the book between Loras and Renly is because we don't have a POV chapter, not because it needed to be subtle (GRRM confirms that it was intended and supposed to be obvious to the reader). There's going to be lots of expositional stuff in the show that's not in the books - and I'm glad for that. I'm also glad for the scene between Renly and Loras - and the other sex scenes. It's HBO and they tend to have a good deal of sex in the show. One of the best characters in The Wire was a gay vigilante urban Robin Hood type guy - and he was awesome.

But yeah, this is all homophobic and racist. Or trolling. Or both.
