House Thane

Seat: Bloodbear peak

Sigil: a red bear on black with a diagonal grey strip across the shield.

Words: Wake us and know our wrath.

Location: A peak on Skagos where there is a large forest with many large, aggressive bears.

Weapon: A large ax called the Grim, the blade is made of a mysterious black metal that is only used by House Thane, the shaft is made of weirwood The Grim was said to have been wielded by the founder of the house, Cregan Thane, who was know as The Grim. It is said that his spirt is housed inside the ax and possess any Thane who wields it. Also a Warhammer called Starksbane and is made the same way as The Grim.

Sworn to House Stark

House History: although they aren't wealthy, the Thanes are a very powerful house militarily. Their keep, which, while not large, is a almost impenetrable fortress with only one way in and out. It got its name due to the rumor that the bears who live on Bloodbear Peak were so large and aggressive because they were inhabited by the souls of dead Thanes. This comes from the Thane tradition of leaving the dead out for the bears to eat, thus also why they are called bloodbears. Oddly enough the bears are only aggressive to outsiders, which has led to some speculation that the Thanes may be wargs. When Skagos rebelled the Thanes were some of the first to take the field, and it is said that a Thane even struck a blow that killed on of the Starks who had some to put down the rebellion which is why the warhammer is called Starksbane. It was said that Lord Cregan Thane (the founder) rode a bloodbear into combat.

Seriously right?! I was just thinking "wow, this is the dorkiest (how do you even spell that?) thread I've ever read". On the other hand, I am a huge dork as well so this is also the coolest thread I've ever read. Lol:) Im so pissed though! I can't even decide on a house name yet. Grrrr.... too many to chose from. These are all really great though! You guys all have awesome ideas.....

How dare you say this is the dorkiest thread you've ever read! But on the other hand, thank you for saying this is the coolest thread. You're house weapon symbolic for "Taena's Curves?" Could be one of those Dothraki swords that are curved...

House name: Blackbridge

Sigil: Two golden fields divided by a river, connected by a black bridge

Colours: Black and Gold

House words: Foundations of Glory

Castle: The High Arches

Location: The top right tip of the Dornish Marches, just off the Kingsroad

Sworn to: House Baratheon

Ancestral weapon: Moondaughter - a longsword with a milk-white blade, of an unknown alloy.

History: The lands are small but fertile, and there was found to be plenty of gold under the mountain when the first Lord Blackbridge started mining the areas under his control. Legend goes that the first lord built his castle on the mountainside after having been given the lands and the blade Moondaughter as reward and recompense when he knocked down his own hall to hastily build a bridge across the Wendwater to allow one of the first Storm Kings to escape pursuit from enemies from the Riverlands, who managed to kill two of the lord's sons with arrows.

The lands are relatively densley populated due to the wealth of the area, meaning the current Lord can call to arms at least a thousand foot and horse, possibly much more.

Some theorize that the blade Moondaughter contains Valyrian Steel due to the uncommen sharpness of the sword, while there are those who claim that this is just an empty boast and point to the pure whiteness of the blade as evidence. The precise composition of the alloy is a closely guarded secret.

House name: Turner

Sigil: an unarmed man (Turner) with a soldier pointing a sword at his throat.

House words: We're your men.

Unofficial motto: Piss on Honour

Castle: The Coat (Often refered to as "Turncoats Point", some times even a Turner will accidently call his castle this.)

Weapon: Silver tounge, a dagger that the Turners claim is made from Valyrian Steel, although no one really believes it is.

The Turners are not known for their skills on the battlefield, in fact the only skill they are known for is talking their way out of trouble. The turners have managed to stick around for so long by changing loyalty a number of times. The larger houses haven't taken much notice of them so are unaware how untrust worthly they are.

The most famous instence of the turns doing what they do best (Turning their coats) is when they changed their loyalty to the Lannisters and hired a builder named Bran (who the Starks like to make clear was NOT Bran the Builder) to physically move The Coat closer to Casterly Rock.

As closely guarded as Margaery Tyrell's maidenhood? Oh wait...

Great idea. :)

House name: Lorkley

Sigil: Five drops of blood at the corners and center of a silver X, over a blue field

Motto: We Shall Prevail

Unofficial Motto: None

House Weapon: None. House Lorkton once owned a Valyrian steel sword named Dripper, but it was lost over two centuries ago when the heir of the House was slain by a noble knight from House Qorgyle, who took the sword and carried it back to Dorne.

Castles: Falantine (House Lorkton and seat of House Lorkley), Silverstone (House Marley)

Location: Southeastern region of the Reach, near the Red Mountains

Sworn to: House Tyrell

House Lorkley was born of the union of two noble Houses of the Reach, Houses Lorkton and Marley, an event that took place over a century before Aegon I conquered Westeros. Having suffered from Dornish raids that were as numerous as they were vicious over the previous half century, the two Houses eventually found themselves whittled down to near extinction. House Lorkton had only a single male heir for the main bloodline, while the neighboring House Marley simultaneously only had a female heir left. Other Houses of the Reach offered to have a family member marry one or the other heir and "take over the defense of the Reach against the Dornish scum" – essentially absorbing the stricken House into their own. House Florent was especially vocal with its offers, going so far as to send a thousand troops into the Marley lands as "a gesture of our willingness to protect the lands and smallfolk of the House."

Unwilling to let their Houses' proud histories vanish completely, Lord Mervin Lorkton and Lady Shanta Marley petitioned King Garth Greenhand the Ninth for permission to marry and by doing so merge their two Houses into a single one. King Garth granted their request, some say as much to foil the Florents as out of respect for the two Houses, both longstanding supporters of the Gardeners. Soon thereafter, Houses Lorkton and Marley became House Lorkley, and the two newlyweds eventually gave birth to a dynasty that lasts to this day. Their sigils were also merged, with the blood drops of the Lorktons laid over the silvery X of the Marleys.

As can be imagined, the contemporary Lorkleys hate everything and everyone from Dorne. If they believe they can get away with it, its nobles and servants will take every opportunity to inconvenience, hurt, or even kill Dornishmen they meet. On several occasions, a Lorkley noble champion has fought on behalf of a servant who had been caught perpetrating a crime against someone from Dorne. The Lorkleys reserve their greatest hatred for House Qorgyle, who return the sentiment in full. Many Dornishmen firmly believe that the death of Lord Ambrej Qorgyle while he was a captive of King Daeron during the Conquest of Dorne was due to a Lorkley servant poisoning his food.

House Name: Whiteblood

Founder: Florence Whiteblood

Sigil: A shiny white light in a dark forest

Official words: The Light that Guides

Unofficial words: Strike and Burn

Castle: The Shining White

Location: 25 miles north of the fist of the first men

Weapon: Sorrow: a twohanded obsidian broadsword

History: According to legends House Whiteblood got its name because the founder (Florence Whiteblood) was born an albino. People thought that the constant exposure to cold and ice had frozen his blood in his mothers womb and that this was the reason for his white skin and hair.

House Whiteblood was a minor house when the others came for the first time and destroyed almost entire Westeros. The house suffered great losses and the Others killed Florences wife and 4 of his children, together with a big part of his people. After the Others were defeated by Azhor Ahai and Lightbringer Florence had trouble adjusting to the new situations and he hungered for revenge. He could not grow over the grief for his wife and children and swore to avenge them. Togethet with his surviving son Elfangle he rallied what was left from his people and the people of the other northern houses and began an expedition in the frozen lands to hunt down the last Others. Once they all realised that a wall was build to protect the north of Westeros they decided to stay north of the wall and became a watchfull eye. During the decennia that followed they engaged themslves with wildlings to assure offspring. Whenever a new plague of Others would rise they were the first protection and in the time that followed they managed to keep the Others at bay.

There are almost no recordings of the Whiteblood bloodline south of the wall and they are forgotten by most of the maesters of the citadel. In the periods shortly after their migration messengers were send to the south quite often but as time passed these visits became more rare and at some point they stopped all together. Since then only one Whiteblood has crossed the wall. In the year of Roberts Rebellion the last lord of The Shining White, Andris Whiteblood, came to Castle Black to warn the Night Watch of a new invasion by the Others. But because nobody knew who he was they believed him to be a wildling and he was killed. And with him died the line of the Whitebloods.

Name: House Wyndwright

Sigil: a bluebird perched atop a white human skull, on a field of light brown

Motto: Deadly is our Song

Seat: Enara's Heart

Location: the hills of the Westerlands

House Sword: the Wyndwrights possess the remnants of Stranger's Voice, a longsword of black crystal given to an ancestor of the Wyndwrights thousands of years ago by the Stranger himself, as a reward for slaying the Seven Great Demons of Andalos. The blade was broken into seven pieces when the warrior Martyn Wyndwright was killed by a direwolf during the invasion of Westeros.

History: A family descended mainly from the Andals, the Wyndwrights were a small house in the Westerlands until four hundred years ago, when the King of the Rock granted Alenarr Wyndwright lands and lordship. Alenarr was a merchant who took up arms against the ironborn after they raided his lands and raped and murdered his wife Orelya and his daughter Enara. In his search for vengeance, he and his men killed more than a thousand reavers, running them out of the Westerlands for generations. Upon returning home he built a beautiful castle of white stone above a waterfall, as a monument to the family he had lost. He named it Enara's Heart, and upon its completion, it is said that he threw himself from the top of the falls. His younger brother Damen inherited the castle after his brother's death.

Is that cool at all? I can't tell anymore.

LOL!

These all are great, but this is my favorite. What I want to know, is what happened to Timmet? Was there a Romulus-Remus moment during the founding of the great mountain clan dynasty?

Name: House Sylvain

Sigil: A crying weirwood on a field of forest green.

Motto: We remember.

Location: In the western Wolfswood

House Sword: A long, thin, ancient obsidian blade with a handle of weirwood--A gift from the children of the forest, spellforged so as not to shatter.

The house is very small and relatively unknown, and reclusive in a manner not unlike the Reeds. They keep to their forest, and tend to be reserved and scholarly. Their heirs aren't taught in the traditional sword-fighting techniques of the knights, but rather in a more agile, fencing type of swordplay that could be compared in some respects to water dancing.

Your sword alloyed obsidian with fallen comet-iron to try and strengthen it.

I didn't want to go the "how do you mix glass and iron route" but i also didn't want another friggin' valyrian steel sword. So I just said 'lol, it's magic.'

and... there might be some children of the forest left. I feel like GRRM wants us to believe they're out there, some where, in some shape or form. I doubt there are any substantial numbers, though.
