Jojen
My votes go to two scenes. Both have an effect on the plot, yet one is subtle, while the other is anything but.The subtle use of fire is the opening scene of "The Pointy End," where Varys, carrying a torch, visits Ned in prison. It's effective for several reasons First, the flame can be seen as representing the light of truth and literally casting Varys in the role of lightbringer. While the way the flame jumps and flashes across Ned's vision makes it blinding, it also represents hope of sorts, for Ned, for the realm if Ned does as Varys asks. It also represents danger, because if there's fire, then blood can't be far behind. And not just Ned's.The far less subtle use of fire comes at the end of the season finale, accurately titled "Fire and Blood." Drogo's pyre is more impressive than Vary's torch, but it also serves to move the plot forward in a very significant way. It likewise represents an ending and a new beginning, and we just know there's a lot more fire (and more blood) to come. What other scenes involving fire do you think have been particularly effective? Arrogant Bastard
Only one I can think of is Episode 2. There's a transition from a candle flame (I think in one of Dany's scene) to a fire burning in the woods where Tyrion is discussing the NW with Jon. A'shaman
And in Episode 8 I think, where the fire from Othor's burning cuts to the fire of the Lhazereen village burning. I like little associations between Dany and Jon like that, considering they end up parelleling each other a lot
