According to Arya, Cat tried to change her. It wouldn't have hurt Arya to learn to sew; it's a good skill for northern girls - and boys - to learn. What happens if they're riding on some expedition or trip and it's cold and they get holes in their socks or a tear in their cloaks. They may not always have maids available...And it would not have hurt Arya to brush her hair once a day; or learn a little self-restraint rather than unleashing her temper all the time. And it would not have hurt Sansa for her mother to have sat her down and told her that true life, and true love, is not a storybook or a song...
