His dialogue pretty much inferred he preferred a suicide escape attempt to staying locked up.Even more to my point then. Dead Bran = no one tells anyone about Jaime and Cersei, Dead Aerys and alchemists = city does not burn, Dead Alton = now we wait and hope the guard opens the gate alone and investigates the body, then I kill him, then i make a run for it, then maybe I get cut down.Alton's death didn't guarantee any result and was certainly not the only option Jaime had at the time.
