How the Boltons will endure.

A lot of people on this forum seem to think that the Boltons are doomed for sure. I agree that it's very unlikely that Roose or Ramsay will survive the wrath of their fellow Northmen, but that doesn't necessarily spell the end of their house.

We know for a fact that Roose's wife is pregnant.

Roose Bolton entered, pale-eyed and yawning, accompanied by his plump and pregnant wife, Fat Walda.

Once Roose and Ramsay have been slain or executed for treason, the question of what to do with his wife and child will remain. Tywin Lannister would mount their heads on spikes as soon as they were captured. But in my view that would be most unlike both the Northmen and Stannis. Walda will be the widow lady of the Dreadfort, but a lot of it's lands will be taken away and her child will be the heir of it.

If the gods/GRRM are good it will be a girl who can marry with the Starks and end the blood feud, but how often are the gods/GRRM good? If there is a male heir to a rebel lord, the laws and practices seem to state that he should inherit the name and seat of his father as was done to the Conningtons, Darrys and other Targaryen loyalists after the rebellion.

In short, I believe that Walda's son will live be the next Lord Bolton. What's your view.

Its possible. but after all house bolton has done the dreadfort needs to be leveled/destroyed and the lands need to be parceled out. Send the boy to foster somewhere as a man at arms/knight and the mother can be a lady werever they send her son. I really want house bolton to be greatly reduced in power after ramsay and roose are dead. They should no longer be lords.

They shouldn't be Lords anymore, indeed. Make them petty lords, or something. Send them back to where they're from; the Freys. They are despised by the entire Kingdom, they should not be allowed to be Lords again.

The Dreadfort will be destroyed, it is known.

I hope you are right in that the Boltons survive, but I think that the Northmen will murder lady Walda and her child. Wheter it comes right before or after they betray Stannis is a matter of debate.

I am interested, why do you think the North will betray Stannis?

I would like to know as well beacuse

Stannis nodded. "You will escort the Braavosi banker back to the Wall. Choose six good men and take twelve horses."

"To ride or eat?"

The king was not amused. "I want you gone before midday, ser. Lord Bolton could be on us any moment, and it is imperative that the banker return to Braavos. You shall accompany him across the narrow sea."

"If there is to be a battle, my place is here with you."

"Your place is where I say it is. I have five hundred swords as good as you, or better, but you have a pleasing manner and a glib tongue, and those will be of more use to me at Braavos then here. The Iron Bank has opened its coffers to me. You will collect their coin and hire ships and sellswords. A company of good repute, if you can find one. The Golden Company would be my first choice, if they are not already under contract. Seek for them in the Disputed Lands, if need be. But first hire as many swords as you can find in Braavos, and send them to me by way of Eastwatch. Archers as well, we need more bows."

Ser Justin's hair had fallen down across one eye. He pushed it back and said, "The captains of the free companies will join a lord more readily than a mere knight, Your Grace. I hold neither lands nor title, why should they sell their swords to me?"

"Go to them with both fists full of golden dragons," the king said, in an acid tone. "That should prove persuasive. Twenty thousand men should suffice. Do not return with fewer."

Unless they do it soon, they wont have much choice in the matter.

Killing innocent women and children won't happen on Stanni's watch and the Mountain men seem to be more righteous than you might think, as they go around and apologize for stuff they said in battle. They could be exiled, but letting them keep their seat will keep their supporters calm.

As to the Dreadfort, it would be pure madness and folly to destroy a perfectly strong and not just give it a new lord.

After all that has happened with the boltons and the north, the northmen might want it gone forever. All the tortures that happend, especially if the northern lords have family members that suffered there, they will want it destroyed.

You see lots of excuses for not extirpating the Freys ("not all of them are bad, just kill off the ones that took part in RW"), so there must be some good Boltons around, too. Put them in charge of the Bolton holdings.

And the Dreadfort can be renamed, no reason to demolish it. A new sigil will be needed, too.

Edit: some others have the idea of preserving Dreadfort under a different title. If Dany's Dragons get this far north in Westeros it could be renamed Harrenhall North.

I was under the impression that the Northmen have not accepted Stannis as their king, despite the service he has done for them, and are still deadset on the whole separatism madness, and thus when Davos dutifully brings Rickon as he promised I think there is a significent risk that the Northmen will just say "Thank you." and cut him down. In my opinion the xenophobia of the Northmen have been fairly clear and with both Rickon and Robb's will possibly surfacing it seems to me that Stannis would be out of the question since he's an outsider.

In all I unfortunetly don't see much speaking for the Northmen to support Stannis after the Northmen either kills the Boltons or finds a new Stark.

Now I think it would be better if the Northmen did not betray Stannis, as I want Stannis on the throne if I can't have Lannister on it, but I think that the winds are blowing against the stag and Justin may be to slow to gather the mercenaries to be at the right place when it really matters.

There are no other Boltons than Roose and Ramsay. If Fat Walda gets a kid, he/she will also be a Bolton, but that'll be the end of it.

The Dreadfort has to be destroyed. The sight of it reminds people of what happens there. They will find out what happened there, since the Dreadfort still has its ehm.. Torturerooms. And the entire North hates and despises the Boltons. I hardly doubt it will be destroyed sooner or later.
