Victarion is already dead. He died in his cabin and Moqorro turned him into a UnVic (like the Uncat or BEric Dondarrion). So I think Victarion will hang around for a bit but I doubt he lasts too much longer. Perhaps Dany will be killed and Vic will use his fire to revive her as Beric did Cat? But I don't think he will be a long running character. He is on his way out.

Now that I think about it, GRRM has a thing with hands getting injured or going bad somehow. Cold Hands, Jaime, Vic, Jon Snow's burn....

Anyway, I know the dessert battle will be sweet, the Winterfell battle will be intense, but I hope the rest of the novel isn't just 800 pages of characters poking around and lamenting about sins or reflecting on life. Let's move the plot along. Maybe just a little.

Hands at least make sense--a swordsmans hands are always in harm's way. What I can't figure out is his obsession with ears--seriously, how hard can it be to slice off someone's ear without hacking their skull open or missing entirely.

The Ironborn don't have allies; they are reavers & will cut through anyone in their way to stealing Dany & the dragon/s. The battle will be chaos---with sellswords turning cloak, the horn blown, Harpys in the city, reavers, dragons attracted to the blood & noise etc

I agree. I don't think Victarion brought his men ashore knowing which men he's going to fight and which he's going to help. How could he know? I think he'll cut his way through the Yunkai and instead of being the hammer and the anvil that Barristan thinks, he will just keep cutting through Barristan's men.

Far more likely will be that the big victory will be undermined by the fact that 300 ships from Volantis with 30,000 troops will land and perhaps the Harpy will rise up inside the city. I was quite worried by how the beasts were on the walls. What if Shakaz has played Dany and co false or their loyalty isn't secure? They could shut them out of the city and our heroes would risk being trapped between the walls and the volantese.

I can't say I'd be hurt if our Westerosi nobles all need to hightail it out of Meereen and let them deal with their troubles.

Besides the Hound I can't remember anyone with ear sliced in combat, mostly they are frostbitten, burned or bitten off.

Am I the only one who thinks Vics job in the books is merely to deliver to Dany the item she needs to control her dragons? She has had very little to no control over them and it is becoming a problem the closer to the last book we get. A lot of people (including myself) seem to think Vic is going to die in this book. I believe he will die very early, and his whole arc is just a means to an end to get the horn to Dany. She will use the horn and finally have control over her dragons (Tyrion possibly being able to help her understand the workings of the horn). Poor Vic will never get his revenge on Euron :crying:

Unless Dany's whole story is just to get the dragons for Vic

In terms of the red dawn there is a mariner's rhyme:

Red sky at morning, sailors take warning;

Red sky at night, sailors delight

Does this foreshadow Victarion's fate, especially with Barristan calling the red dawn a "dragon dawn"?

ETA:

To add to the theory of Pod killing LF:

“I’ve never been frightened of shepherds. It’s the sheep who trouble me. Still, I suppose an escort might be in order.”

ACoK:

He[Pod] shuffled his feet, sheepish.

Victarion cannot be trusted but he wants dragons. Dany will get there only if she is riding Drogon, which will probably happen, all will be mezmorized by her streaming silver hair(major sarcasm, I hate the bitch) as her black dragon scortches the enemy where they stand. The exchange will be interesting between Barristan, Jorah, Tyrion and vic. Who knows, one or more of them need to die anyway.

I'm surprised how many chapters are being devoted to this battle. If the battle for Winterfell is told similarly, the first third or more of the next book is going to be taken up with material that was supposed to be in A Dance with Dragons. Eight books seems inevitable at this point.

People are forgetting Moqqoro is on a mission to help Dany not Victarion. Things are about to end up bad for Vic soon if he blows that horn.

I'm glad Grrm released these chapters and all but god I can't wait for this book to come out. Is it wrong for me to believe it could come out around 2016? Lol. I was hoping for the Battle of Ice but I'm glad we for some info on the battle of Mereen though.

I thought the horn killed the person who blew on it so if Vic tries will it kill him and burn his insides up? Does the horn need someone with dragon blood like Dany or Ben Brown Plumm to blow it?

Which is very interesting : if the horn secures the blower, Victarion may as well burn. Only, his arm may be of some protection.

Speculation drives me crazy, here. The one thing it all depends on is how the horn actually works.

Edit : Evening star, nobody knows what happened to Theon, except for those around Winterfell. No surprise Barristan thinks it migh me him.

A hundred ships is not enough to transport Danys army by sea. That was established in ADWD. Even if they capture all the slaver ships and use the gift of the thirteen along with Vics 70 ships thats not even up to a hundred. Dany is still is not in a position to leave.
