Fetch me a block
I haven't read Dunk and Egg, but he does seem like quite a popular guy, and handy with the sword. What d'ya think?

Bastard of Uplands
His supporters (in story) don't seem to give better reasons than him being good at poking other men with a stick. Not true. The main reason most people seem to have followed him for is the fact that Aegon IV gave Blackfyre to Daemon instead of Daeron. To answer the OP: yes, I would have. therealbando
IMO Daemon Blackfyre is in a way the Renly Baratheon of his time. His had many supporters, who thought that he would have been a better king than anyone else (I doubt this), he didn`t come first in the line of succession, but he decided to go for the IT anyway and he ended up dead at the hands of a brother. I, for one, would have picked Daeron over him.
The Snowman
Well I'm siding with Daeron because he has Bloodraven on his side. Not going against good old BR.

Katsa
I find it sorely depressing that a lot of fans think that being a good warrior equates to being a good king. I can understand why the characters in the books think that the man with the cool sword is the better man and/or fit for the role of the king, but I expect fans to know better.Daemon has never shown any indications that he'll make a good king (i.e. any form of ruling abilities). If anything, he was easily swayed by the likes of Bittersteel and Quentyn Ball to spread horrid lies about his brother and usurp his throne. Is this the sort of man you think will make a great king? Also, agree with David Selig. Ser Eustace is not objective in his judgement. I wonder if he has even met Daeron to begin with. He probably thinks that great warrior --> great leader ==> great ruler, which is, of course, wrong.
King of Winters
No. I would have supported the Targs, taking in mind I don't know who would win the war. I find the Targs badasses at the height of their power and I find them really cool

Fetch me a block
Good warriors can make good Kings (e.g Henry V, Edward III, Harold II etc, all Kings of England), but if someone is only a warrior they may not. Blackfyre, to me, looks like some prancing prat with a handsome face and a cool sword.
David Selig
Look, Daemon may have been the better man (though Eustace's claim is no real proof at all), but so what? Daeron was already a competent king and the realm was in fine shape. Getting many thousands killed in a civil war to put someone else on the throne, even if he's more competent, is totally wrong morally and from purely utilitarian PoV. Winter's Knight
No. And I'd probably have fought for Aerys II too-the scars left by civil wars never fully heal.

StarkWolf
I'd have followed Daemon. His father Aegon IV legitimised all his bastards so there would have been question about any of them being heirs. Best of all he gave Blackfyre to Daemon. Why would he do that if he didn't want him to succeed him?

He gave away dragons eggs frivolously. He impregnated nobles daughters at a whim. If he really wanted Daemon as his heir, why didn't he just say so? The man never showed any restraint or subtlety in his life.

Even Robert, when he was dying, had the power to name Ned as regent, so I think if Aegon would have wanted Daemon to be his heir he would have named him on paper and not just give him the sword. Nothing is clear cut.Blackfyre was Aegon the Conquerors. It had been passed from King to King in a clear line of succession. Do you really think Aegon IV had no idea what he was doing gifting it to Daemon?Because he was a big time jerk who wanted to create a mess. He wasn't called the Unworthy for nothing. He was a randy auld geit who should have been neutered. For his own good and everyone elses. That's not in question. It doesn't mean he couldn't recognise a capable heir. Daemon Blackfyre was very well respected. So much so that half the kingdom revolted with him. They believed in him.
