Aurane Waters..

  1. Does he need to have a plan? So far, I had the impression that he's simply someone trying to stay alive and taking whatever opportunity he gets.
  2. How many ships does he have? As far as I understand, not that many. A bit of a regional force yes, but nothing that could match the iron born fleet or the Redwyne fleet.
  3. His fleet is a new one, his sailors are inexperienced and he's an inexperienced commander. He'll face loyalty issues and inexperienced fleets are rarely a good base to start a war. (Ask Napoleon, for example.)

My best guess is he tries to align himself with the next person that looks like the future king and get some lands for himself.

Whoever he is im pretty sure he was planted there ( probably by varys). He got a lot done in a little bit of time and got the hell out. And like somone else mentioned he specificly asked for the would be wall candidates. we definitely haven't heard the last of lord waters.

I guess his Stannis allegiance may come into play. Along with Loras Tyrrel's suspicious injury. Maybe Loras struck a deal with Stannis' garrison of Dragonstone and Aurane...

I don't see Loras ever fighting on the same side as Stannis.

What's up with all these fleet-related threads? How many ships does he have, does anyone know?

I think it's said that he has ten or so new dromonds, along with the ships that carried and escorted Myrcella to Dorne. King Robert's Hammer, Lady Lyanna and some others

I thought the male line of blackfyres was no more but varys could be one since hes a eunuch but I dont know all the details besides its off topic. I just have a feeling lord waters back story is gonna be good!

Illyrio said the male line ended when Maelys the Monstrous was slain by Barristan the Bold on the Stepstones during the WOT9PK. Assuming Varys is of an age with Illyrio, whose chest hair has not begun to turn gray, Varys would have been born around that time or soon thereafter, before his junk got fried. Illyrio is the Blackfyre--descended from a daughter or granddaughter of Daemon.

I see what you're saying. Though, all of House Targaryen is descended from a female Velaryon. House Velaryon came with the Targs from Valyria, which is why they have 'the look'. Aurane doesn't exactly have 'the look'. Cersei thinks he looks like Rhaegar due to his long hair. The hair shade is different (silver-gold instead of silver) and the eyes are different. She later notes the entire face is different. I think it's a stretch to say that Aurane has ties specifically to the Blackfyres. There may be a bit of 'bastard allegiance', but I'm not really seeing it. I could see him having some sort of connection to Varys simply because Rennifer Longwaters, a distant relation to Aurane Waters, worked as a gaoler alongside Varys, though Rennifer knew him as Rugen.

I think Aurane's theft of the drommonds was ballsy, but also not unexpected. Aurane fought with Stannis on the Blackwater so his loyalty was suspect from the start. Jaime was also against Aurane being made Master of Ships/Lord Admiral due to his inexperience and unknown factor. Later, Aurane convinced Cersei to allow him to crew the ships with criminals, specifically thieves and poachers. Not to mention that nearly all of those she raised up had betrayed her in some way when she was arrested - Harys Swyft, the Kettleblacks, Lancel, Merryweather, even the Faith which she had just recently allowed to rearm. It's not really a surprise that Aurane was part of the crew who turned against her, nor does it seem spur of the moment.

He has the Targ look, just not quite the Rhaegar look.
