Ser Gerold Dayne, AKA Darkstar: A Second Impression; A Second Chance?

The other quote wasn't meant to you, but to the thread in general. I just didn't want to double post.

I know. I wasn't trying to be combative. I do think Darkstar will play some future role in the plot. I have to confess though, I sort of fantasize about the following conversation happening at some point:

Darkstar: "I am of the night!"

Edric Dayne: "That's unfortunate, because the night is always followed by the dawn." *buries Dawn in Darkstar's skull*

I mean, that's the whole thing with the Daynes, right? We all want to see Dawn show up at some point.

Darkstar, to date, reminds me a bit of Boba Fett.

We see him escorting frozen Han, then a few shots, then he flies away. Next we see him limply knocked into the Sarlacc. If you only watch the movies like 95% of Star Wars fans...THAT'S IT.

From that perspective, you might be tempted to conclude Darkstar gets found a bleached skeleton in the desert, but GRRM ain't no George Lucas.

Like God has for you and me, Martin has a plan for [purple]Darkstar[/purple]...

I don't think is going to drop Darkstar, after he heard the reactions from some fans to the character, he decided to let both Doran and Obery Martell state just how f*ckin dangerous this guy is.

I have another theory about him. He should be about the right age to remember what went down after the ToJ. He is described as being in his mid twenties with RR about 15/16 years ago, would make Darkstark about 8-11 years, when the whole ToJ affair went down.

Boys that age are often known to be nosy little brats, he could have been lurking around there during the months Lyanna and the KG spent there. He would most certainly remember her aunt jumping off a tower and have more insight into the situation, then lets say a Edric Dayne.

First of all this was a good write up OP. I do find Darkstar quite intriguing and I'm eager to se more of him, there's a certain mystique to him and I think he will end up in some important places in the future novels, and possibly kill some important people. I also like your idea of him being involved in Aegon's story, could be pretty interesting.

I also just go along with the whole purple text thing because I think it's funny. The guy appeared in one chapter and gets this special treatment. haha. And of course he is ''of the night.''

i do think darkstar intended to kill myrcella instead of crowning her, but i always had this feeling that areo hota and obara are leading balon swan too darkstar so he can kill him and take the blame, but only so he can live too. and him making the lannisters attack dorne from stratigically point of view would be suicide as things are now for the lannisters.

I think it's a great theory :-D Also, High Hermitage is closer to the Tower of Joy than Starfall, so it might be possible that they went there instead of Starfall for provisions, etc. However, Rhaegar and Arthur would need to be sure that they could trust them completely in my opinion :-)

5) He failed to kill a little girl, therefore he is not only loathsome, but also incompetent and generally shit at everything he has ever done or might do. I’m not even going to go into depth on this one, it’s just so hypocritical of readers I feel as though I’ve been lobotomised. Jaime failed to kill Bran, a preadolescent boy. The entirety of the military stationed at the capital of Westeros failed to capture/kill Arya, a preadolescent girl. Ser Mandon Moore failed to kill Tyrion, despite being about 4 times his size; moreover, he was then killed by Pod, an adolescent boy. Christ, the sea couldn’t even properly dispose of Patchface. The sheer multitude of perfectly capable, powerful characters failing miserably at relatively easy tasks is completely overlooked. What’s more, we don’t even know what Darkstar’s actual intentions were, unlike the aforementioned examples, all of which had quite explicit instructions. It seems to me like people are just sore that a character with such build-up (seemingly) failed to live up to the hype and readers’ expectations.

How am I a hypocrite for not liking Darkstar for trying and failing to kill Myrcella, so long as I also don't like Jaime, Mandon Moore, or the sea?
