NFL Week 8: End of the Weeden Dynasty

After starting 0-6 the Giants are now 2 games out of their division. I knew the NFC East was bad, but this is ridiculous. That said, how awesome would it be if they pulled off the comeback? I suddenly find myself rooting for these guys now.

Absolutely not. Their wins have been against Matt Barkley's Eagles and Josh Freeman's Vikings. They suck. I think the Cowboys still win the division by default.

Haha I know it's a pipe dream at best right now. Still though, it's interesting to see where they're at despite the terrible start.

Edit: even if it's against the Vikes, this GB rushing attack is legit. This makes the already lethal Rodgers PA pass that much better.

ETA: This is pretty bad though. Despite all of this, 4th injury to the team. Add in the injuries from last week and we're at a severe disadvantage going into Miami on Thursday night. One more reason to fucking hate TNF.

I'd think you have at least one advantage in the fact that you are not Miami.

Don't be silly. He has Megatron like every other guy. :)

And some girls. He single-handedly got me a win in the westeros B league.

Another Manning INT. Let's see what Washington can do with this.

ETA: INT from RG3!

ETA2: And a typical screen pass catch and run TD from DT.

RGIII got his ass beat tonight, and I think I remember that jailbreak screen coming to prominence in Indy around 2008, since then it's been a staple of Manning playbooks.

Disappointing outing by Peyton, I hope it's the ankles.

Wow, what a Lions game today. I am still in shock.

I'm excited for the rest of the season. With games against Chicago, Pittsburgh and Tampa bay after the bye, I see no reason that the Lions can't be 8-3 with a HUGE game against the Packers on Thanksgiving.

Good god, I actually wouldn't mind if the Lions were competent on a thanksgiving night. Then again, they always seem to shit the bed vs GB when I watch.

Speaking of 'hard to watch' that's 3 straight primetime duds, with tomorrow probably following suit.

:(

That, and the fact that I started Rueben Randle over Kenny Stills. Seemed smart at the time, I guess. Oops.

ETA: Collinsworth made a good point - I think the Packers' rush game has benefited from more snaps for Quarless, who's a blocking specialist, over Finley the passcatcher.

Seattle is just going to embarrass the Rams. With Bradford, the game would have been interesting. With Kellen Clemens? The Legion of Boom will destroy that offense.

I think I'll still watch since Beast-Mode is the most entertaining RB in the NFL.

Ha, starting Randle, that's even more dumb than being so unprepared for all the byes/injuries this week you didn't have as second QB to start in the Dynasty league. Snaps a 5 game winning streak.

In Westeros 1, almost half of my 'starting' team didn't play.

Wow, nice run by Gerhart... there's a place for such talent in Indy.

I don't like teams with zero chance to win going for onside kicks. 60 minutes and all that, but those are dangerous and unnecessary (as I'm saying). Sciano did it Thursday and I didn't approve of it then.

ETA: Commercial for next week's SNF game just made me puke, a pathetic conglomeration of ' Luck' and 'say Watt' puns.

Ryan Broyles ruptured his achilles tendon and is out for the season :bawl: He was the all time receiving leader in the history of the NCAA, and I thought he was going to be great in the NFL, a la Wes Welker, as a guy who ran perfect routes and caught everything thrown his way. His career has been completely derailed with leg injuries over the last three years, with a torn ACLs ending his seasons in '11, '12, and now the torn achilles this year. I really hope he can fight his way back, but it seems unlikely at this point. So frustrating.

Anyone think that the Bengals might finally be living up to their expectations? Dalton is spreading the ball around to 7-8 different receivers each week. He's now completing 52% of his passes over 20+ yards, 4th in the league. Marvin Jones is exploding onto the scene as a legitimate threat across from Green and they still have threats like Eifert, Gresham and Bernard. Oh and their defense is really good.

Watching Dalton against the Jets, I realized that he can be a really effective QB in this league as long as he gets to the LOS quickly and is given the opportunity to identify and diagnose the defense. The Jets came into the game with the 4th ranked defense and he ripped them to shreds using a combination of the no huddle and checks at the line. That and we're scoring TDs instead of kicking FGs. I think we have the 2nd or 3rd highest Red Zone TD % after going 4/5 yesterday.

As the Bengals improve, I become more and more a Chiefs fan as I would hate for the Broncos to get the #1 seed. Go Chiefs!

But would you want to take an offense that as you say relies on no huddle and good communication at the line of scrimmage on the road into Arrowhead where they set a record for crowd noise just a couple weeks ago? Or would you rather take your stingy defense into Mile High Stadium in December when Peyton will be dealing with frigid temperatures and possibly inclement weather?

I'm thinking Indy at Cinci in Week 14 is going to be for the #2 playoff seed in the AFC.

Into Arrowhead. For one, I trust our defense to stop the Chiefs offense so I worry less about that. I agree that the noise is a huge advantage for the Chiefs, but I'd rather not face Manning without Geno Atkins and that's likely what would happen because he has the sickle cell trait which makes it very hard for him to breath in high altitudes.

Definitely the Chiefs. They're great at home but they're not a great team and they really struggle to score at times. The Broncos most definitely are. And if Sunday is any indication, they've gotten their defensive shit together. I think the combination of the return of Von Miller back to form and Wesley Woodyard back from injury has gotten them back to (or even better than) where they were defensively last year when they were just rolling. I don't know how much was the Redskins O-line breaking down/RGIII sucking, but I do know the Broncos were blowing up the pocket on what seemed like every play while simultaneously blanketing the receivers. Was the most impressive defensive performance I've seen as far as shutting down the full read-option/pistol offense. I thought the Skins were gonna light them up - instead I was just concerned about RGIII making it through the game.

The Packers have finally found what appears to be a running game with Lacy. If they had the depth at wide-out that they had the past few years this would be a truly frightening offense. Rodgers is playing extremely well despite having a lot less to work with. If they can get health by mid November my pessamism for this team is starting to fade.

This is the first I've heard of Atkins condition. And I definitely think were finally living up to expectations. The last piece (Andy Dalton) we were waiting on to reach the next level is starting to make me a believer.

I agree, and it's not just Lacy; almost anyone they plug in has a good running day. Their run blocking is quite a bit better now, and that can only help in cold weather games. That said, my pessimism is still there for this team. I still think Rodgers is the best QB in the league, but the Packers have a terrible pass defense. Sure they can stop the run, but that doesn't mean all that much these days. That pass defense will haunt them in the playoffs this year, as I see them going out just like they did against the 49ers last year.
