Name: House Dorset

Sigil: Golden spear on dark blue banner with stars

Motto: Loyal under Sun and Stars

Unofficial Motto: A sharp wit is the sharpest spear

Location: Small port town and trading post in Northern Dorne

Sworn To: Lady Jordayne of the Tor

House Sword Spear: Ebony shaft with Valyrian steel head. The head was supposedly taken off a Valyrian soldier slain in battle against a House ancestor among the Rhoynish folk.

Background: House Dorset is basically a well-off small lord house. They have relatively little land, but they run a small but reasonably profitable trading post town on the northern coast of Dorne. Their holdfast is a stone tower within a common wall encompassing the trading town.

Although the House Name comes from before the Rhoynish migration, House Dorset has heavily intermarried with folks of Rhoynish descent (including the ancestor who brought the Valyrian steel spear head). They have a "salty Dornish" appearance.

I'm guilty of this too, but I find it amusing how everybody's fake house has to have a valyrian steel sword.

HAHA, I figured that would happen, so I made is an Ax. Plus I always thought it was cool that the Iron Throne was made of the swords of the vanquished, so I figured what would be stronger than an ax made of the weapons of those you conquered?

Of course people want to have a semi-powerful house with a cool valyrian steel weapon. No one wants to create some petty upstart house with tin swords.

House Name: House Mossrot

House Words: "Yes ser..."

Sigil: A cowering brown rat on a moss green field. That's it.

Sword: Toothpick, the fabled rusty iron blade held by squires of legend!

Location: Nomadic house that moves to wherever the weather is currently the worst.

Sworn to: Split custody between the Martells and the Arryns

Religion: The original gods of the first men (anthropomorphized vegetable deities) that everyone else gave up on for good reason.

House Mossrot has a long and storied history of staying in the margins whenever possible. They are famed for having the most forgettable Lords in all the Seven Kingdom, and Mossrot women are fabled for the lush dark mustaches on their otherwise unexceptional faces. Members of House Mossrot have thought about rebelling a few times, but they never got around to it. No Mossrot has ever won or competed in a tourney, but they are known to watch the jousts from time to time. No member has served on the kingsguard, or even met a knight of the kingsguard for that matter. When a Mossrot goes to the Wall, he is immediately sent to the abandoned forts to count rocks. In a fit of panic, Lord Wert Mossrot changed his allegiance back to Black Harren upon hearing someone mention the man's name, years after Harren had been burnt to a crisp by Aegon the conqueror. First to kneel, last through the breach; bowed, bent, and broken.

Name: House Brightleaf

Sigil: A black poppy with thorns on its stem, upon a green field.

Motto: All Words Mean Death

Unofficial Motto: Your mind is not your own

Location: Along the Mander, between Highgarden and Cider Hall. A rather large estate, with vast fields and many peasants, but no taxed villages or the like.

House Sword Cat o' Ninetails: Slip o' the Tongue. Supposedly made of tanned dragon hide, most suspect that those dragons are of the "swampy" variety (read: crocodiles). What's not in doubt are the five blades tied into the ends of this scourge, fragments of the Valyrian blades of five fallen houses.

Additional Info: Brightleaf is a small house; small enough that their liege has been known to forget to send out tax collectors. That's exactly the way they like it. This house, descended from the first men, survives by subtlety. They serve their liege as assassins, spies, and most crucially of all, interrogators. Their fields produce no food nor wine, but instead grow various plants with narcotic and psychogenic uses. The Brightleaf train from an early age in the application and refinement of these drugs, so they can keep a man lucid enough to remember the truth, while making him loose enough to reveal it. A little-known fact, the Brightleaf do not only provide these services to their lords; if any force appears to have a chance of succeeding in battle against their liege, the Brightleaf are more than willing to switch sides. However, the Brightleaves have no ambition of their own, and would never betray their lord for their own advancement.

House Name: House Mason

House Words: Never Give Up

Sigil: A broken sword being held at diagonal angle.

House weapon: A valyiran bastard sword forged using the hilt the remains of an ancient longsword, which was destroyed.

Location: North, west coast

Sworn to: House Stark

House Mason was granted it's land by an ancient Stark King after a young warrior saved the king's life. During a war long forgetten, the young warrior found himself as the last man between the attacker and his king. The king was struck by a wayward arrow in his calf, and was rendered immobile. He came to blows with the biggest man he had ever seen; standing over 7 feet tall, wielding a giant claymore. After two strikes by the giant man, his longsword shattered. Knocked to the ground and pushed aside the would be kingkslayer advanced on the king, when suddenly he felt something hit the back of his head; he turned around. The young warrior had thrown a piece of his broken blade. He stood defiant, wielding the broken longsword; with less than half of the blade still intact. The giant man roared and charged at the young Northern warrior. The rest is history.

House name: House Greycliffe

House sigil: black thundercloud with yellow lightning bolt on grey

Hose words: "Steadfast and True"

House motto: none

Location: in the mountains of the Barrowlands, south of Torren's Square and northeast of the Rills

House weapons: Reaper and Bane, a pair of bronze battleaxes graven with ensorcelled runes

Sworn to: House Stark

House Greycliffe is ancient, tracing an unbroken line to the first men and having served the Starks since they were the Kings of Winter. The house is wealthy, but relatively small with a low population of smallfolk. Most of these work in the small mines that dot Greycliffe land producing iron, gemstones and obsidion. The Greycliffes remember the Long Night and their troops are armed with dragonglass daggers or arrowheads. This has become more of a ceremonial thing, but this house remembers that dragonglass can kill the Others. Worship of the Seven is forbidden in Greycliffe territory. When the Faith Militant existed this caused no end of trouble and Greycliffe knights frequently slew any that encroached upon their lands. Protected by the Starks, who reminded those Southrons that the Old Gods are worshiped in the North, House Greycliffe survived and prospered. The Greycliffe seat is called Silverlode and is situated almost entirely underground to protect from all enemies, including the harshest of all--winter. Reaper and Bane are thousands of years old but as good as the day they were forged. They are said to be magical, but no one believes that nonsense. However, Lukan Greycliffe, the eldest son and heir, insists that on the day that the red comet appeared the runes on the axes shone with an eerie red glow.

House Name: Delchyster

House Words: The Sands Unnumbered, the Hour Unknown

Sigil: An hourglass with the sand half-fallen, on a field divided argent and ebony.

Location: The northern coast of Dorne, meeting the foothills of the Red Mountains.

House Weapon: Remembrance, a cracked weirwood spear with silver filigree running along the shaft.

Sworn to: House Jordayne of the Tor

The distant origins of House Delchyster started with Nymeria and her ten thousand ships, settling along the northern part where coast, desert and the foothills of the Red Mountains converge. They served House Jordayne as attendants and retainers, mediating between that house and House Yronwood. They achieved some recognition during the War of the Ninepenny Kings and were raised to landed knights. Many have taken up worship of the Seven since the status of the house was raised, though a few of the older members still keep faith with the gods of the Rhoynar. Their castle is Fallingsand.
