A very large bird lands on a bough and is panting for breath like a mad with her beak widely open.

I did it. Here I am. Gert is dead and was evil, mods have tried to spoil the players but we still are playing. I must read at least 10 pages of your spam interesting talk and build a case. Just give me a few hours. I did it. Ufff....

I thought of something that seems more unlikely than the mods incorporating fairly obscure national holidays into the game: that is, what are the chances of players from those nations actually receiving said holiday roles?

We have:

Daedalus claiming 'Labour Day' (note: with a 'u') - mainly celebrated in Australia, Canada, NZ, and the US.

Ser Spider claiming Queen's Day - er, someone's gonna' have to help me with this one. I presumed it'd be the UK, NZ or Australia that celebrates but the closest I can find on wikipedia is Queene's Day or the Queen's birthday. I know it ain't Canadian because our official day to celebrate our useless regal overlords is Victoria Day.

Thio claiming Kiwi Day - um, didn't Thio also say he was from NZ?

Halo is somewhere up there as well. His suggestion to do a mass-reveal really looks self-serving when we realize that the guilties also had holidays. Although perhaps that's paranoia. I've also been somewhat concerned with his play so far.

It's paranoia (I mean, if you're innocent that is). I'm inclined to agree with Kat that it seems most likely today's morning scene was a CYA scene by the mods. Gert sort of proved that already when she called out Lany for her comments. (Yes I know I agreed with Gert on that one, but I was going by Gert's post not Lany's)

Please do not misunderstand me. You are still on the top of my suspect list. I'm just not dealing with you yet because I don't consider you a threat.

WJ is at the top of your list yet you 'don't consider him a threat'?

As for my thoughts on Shadowbaby, I don't really have many. She's not someone whose playstyle I'm familiar with but when I reread the thread she struck me as a little to active to qualify as a top suspect of mine. I only got a few pages into the reread though and never actually reviewed the meat-and-potatoes case made against her.

If you expect legitimate, well-thought out, reasonable cases and input from me, then that's really too bad since right now, I haven't got any. I could make up some if you'd like. It'd take a few moments, but insomnia's the name of the game tonight anyhow.

Still waiting...

Regarding holiday claims: First things first, the mods told us that everyone, including baddies, got a holiday. Correct me if I'm wrong. So, why not trust some weird holiday like Queen's, or Kiwi day? Obviously, I wouldn't have ever used it if I didn't get it from the mods. Heck, I didn't even know it existed, and I hinted it in my third post. What I'm saying is: it would be stupid to suspect someone just because they got a weird holiday. Either way, they got them from the mods, and I really don't think that mods would give lame holidays to baddies only.

Second thing, we did learn something from it. Lany seemed to be convinced that the killers didn't get their holidays, and, to me, Halo seemed to take advantage of that. Good thing that the mods interrupted...I think this was already pointed out by someone.

So, I think that my PIs are:

Lany, for believing in her trap,

WJ, for being so helpful (no way he was her partner, he started the case in the first place. If he was her partner, or a SK, he wouldn't have gained much by lynching her. Any trust that FMWJ could have got from us would easily be ruined by him being nightkilled, which is more likely than some might suspect, and SK needs the FM in order to help him eliminate the innocents),

Thio, b/c he seems like a genuine n00b to me. My vibes on him being innocent are pretty much the same like the ones I had on Norcross being gulity in the previous game. Typical 16 yo first-timer. Active, arrogant, sometimes confused.

Posting my defense from Kat&Halo, and suspects, soon...

Just for the record, I'm not implying anything, I'm just curious about your actions.

Perhaps you could post a two-liner one of these days?

Careful n00b=not useful n00b=dead n00b.

All of this can easily be applied to Kilgrey and Crusader, and probably to a bigger extent. Post, people! You'll get lynched! If we gave the silent guys a free pass, all the FM would be playing that way. I have a good feeling about JK, but that's meta, and I don't expect anyone to take that as an argument. Crusader's behaviour is getting on my nerves. Not sure if that makes him guilty, but...I mean, if you wanted to learn, you should have applied for spoiled access and learn...that's someting I did in the game 46.5, and Thio did it in 47.

I barely suspect Harpy at all. Her playstyle is pretty much the same to the one in the previous game, and annoys me a little. I mean, could you start looking for some subtle meanings? You seem to be getting everything the way it's written...

To sum it up, IMO, if there are killers among the n00bs (I don't consider myself to be a total n00b, although some of you may say so), I'd look for them among Crusader and Kilgrey. I know, I was feeling good about her, but this lack of posts is something to worry about IMO. Or is it just 'another site' crap again? I have trouble understanding how different can Mafia be elsewhere...

Even if that's the case it still doesn't address the chances of someone from a particular country getting their country's national holiday. Rightly or wrongly I'm going to exclude 'President's Day' because apparently both our mods are American as are a majority of the mafia players (I think...haven't done an actual count). I see now that you're from Croatia so it doesn't include you either, but it's still makes me suspect Thio and possibly Daedalous.

If Lany expressed confusion about this on the thread I must have missed it. I can say however my confusion is genuine. I'm still not convinced that the baddies did get holidays:

1) The mods have done their best to ensure all game mechanics and roles are clear and easily understood. However the mods are far from perfect and have probably made lots of unforeseen errors. The mods will make a judgment before any role clarification is given as we don't want to support or undermine a pre-existing claim made by any player.

Seems to me that this situation counts as 'role clarification' that might 'undermine a pre-existing claim' wouldn't you agree?

This is what I had in mind:

"Boys? BOYS? Why don't you just tell them holiday names and assignments are meaningless. Tell them that we gave alternative holiday names to roled players... And tell them that betwen the three of us, we have been to six continents, not to mention that we know there are players here from all around the world, and we strive to make this game all-inclusive, and not just 'Americanized'. Mexal, go spoil the dead. West go write the scene."

I think that baddies are considered roled players, right?

Tier 1:

Ser Spider, Daedalus (I get the case against him now, having re-read all his posts), Harpy. Except I think Harpy is a potential symp to Gertrude. Go back and look at how they exchanged votes in a very friendly way on day 1.

This role speculation makes me suspect Spider more. (Yes I AM fixated. Why do you ask?)

I just don't like it. I could be wrong, but nothing in that quote makes me want to rule out Spider as a serial killer, either.

Well, you shouldn't rule me out, I agree. But what in that post makes you suspect me? The goal of this post wasn't to clear myself, but to stir things up a bit. The game was still in the phase of joking, and I wanted to end it. I really can't see why does role spec always get people in trouble? I still feel pretty much the same about that, if you ask. If I understood the rules correctly, all the factions ought to have equal chances for victory, and I stated my idea of balance. I could be wrong, of course, since I never played a game with a SK, but what is there in the post that makes you feel uneasy about me?

Who was it that siad Labour day is a Canadian/US thing? Here's a linky to the page (you know, before this game I thought it was a Commonwealth thing. Funny how that turned out...). Seems like well over half the world's population celebrates it in one way or another. Also, my PM actually read Labor Day, but the americanized lazy spelling offended me and I pretended they included the U. Additionally, you made reference to Kiwi Independance Day. Likely, this was the result of the mods giving him "Independance Day" and him not liking having an America-only holiday. I know I would were it me. Of course, this is all moot because the mods said they gave holidays to roled players too (presumably the mafia and SK as well), so I don't much see the point of commenting on it.

Other than that, I'm glad to see that there are a lot less people out for my blood than I'd initially feared... I have to go again. Will be back as per the schedule I gave earlier.

Edited due to careless typing.

Some questions to Ser S.:

Perhaps you would be so kind to give an example? And how long exactly did you play the last game? One day? But, nevertheless, you know my playstyle very well and you are even annoyed - how come ? Lack of better arguments?

My suspects are as follows:

Daedalus V2.0 Firstly, I defended Gert like him but in this post he calls my play "opportunistic" because I happened to change my mind, seeing some evidence and he didn't. Well, what's wrong with changing your mind?

Or maybe, just maybe, you didn't want Gert get lynched because it meant one member less of your killing squad? BTW his writing is more and more careless...always a bad sign from somebody who likes everything to be written in a correct manner. Look at this sentence:

Who was it that siad Labour day is a Canadian/US thing?

Thiocyanide

I am quite persuaded by this case, made by Piper and, additionally, Daedalus thinks that Thio is innocent, so...I think differently. :D

Ser Spider

Nothing to build a real case for him but he is a slick customer imho (OR quoting some better and more experienced MAFIA players: bad vibes).

For now on I vote...Thiocyanide Of course I might change my mind.

I don't quite follow this. You seem so sure about Dead and then you remove vote?

I'm not sure about him or anybody else. He's just one of my top suspects.

And mainly, I wanted to take a step back and let things develop on the thread a bit more, before committing myself in any one direction. Also, I have a bad feeling that Filter is right about evil people trying to symp me, to get on my good side. So I kind of wanted to see how various people would react to me drawing back from one of my suspects a little bit.

Still waiting...

I was awake until 3AM. Then I curled up in bed and passed out. I'm kinda disappointed with myself.

Anyhow, I plan on doing a Halo reread. The other two people I have vibes on (Thio and Daed) seem to be pretty well covered. I also plan on going shopping, but I'll hopefully be a much better insomniac tonight.

Does opinion of newbie means much? I don't now principles, traditions etc of mafia of this forum. So, as I thought, it'll be better to get some knowledge from the game, than from the rules.

Yes. Because there are other people playing this game besides you. Not only do you need to figure out who is guilty, but we need to figure out if you are guilty. If you do not talk to us, we have no way to gauge your innocence. However, there is another very simple way to gauge your innocence if you don't cooperate. We can lynch you, and the CF result would make your alignment abundantly clear.

There are a variety of things I want to respond to. The first is my own suspect list from night 1. I need to move Harpy up into my top tier of suspects.

This was my original reason for dropping her down into my list of 'secondary suspects' -

A point in her favor is that she was hinting at having Thanksgiving as her holiday very early in the game. That's a hugely risky move for a FM. Thanksgiving was almost certain to be handed out in this game. Would a FM really want to fake claim it so early, and risk being counterclaimed? I kind of doubt it. So...she's on my suspect list, but she's not a primary suspect.

Obviously, due to the revelation from the mods that the evil players were given fake holidays to reveal, the above reasoning is entirely invalid. She could have been given Thanksgiving as her fake holiday. Meaning she would have known that there wasn't any risk involved in hinting at it early in the game - nobody else was going to have Thanksgiving, so there wouldn't be any chance of her holiday being counterclaimed.

Meanwhile, the points against her are still true - she defended Gert, and her vote came right about when I'd expect a FM to vote for a doomed partner. So yeah, she's one of my top suspects right now.

That was the next issue I was going to tackle. I agree with everything you said.

Look, Crusader, I'm really doing my best to encourage some of you newer players to participate. I'm happy that you're here playing, and I hope you stick around for future games. But one thing you have to learn is that we don't put up with people who lurk and try to figure everything out on their own. You have to participate. Otherwise, more often than not, we're going to lynch you. It might not happen right away....it might not even happen at all in this particular game, since there are so many other suspects right now....but more often than not, it's going to happen if you stick to the style you're playing right now in our games.

I want to give you a chance, because I know you come from the same site as TheMalcolm, and I know his style is to usually refuse to participate on day 1. I'm guessing it might be a common approach to the game on the site where you guys normally play. But the caveat to that is that Malcolm opens up later in the game. He eventually shares his thoughts and gives us information to work with. You are going to have to do the same thing, if you want to be successful in our games.

I think enough of us have tried to explain this to you....by now you should get it. If you continue to refuse to provide substantive commentary on the game, I'm going to start to think that you're intentionally refusing to participate for nefarious reasons, and you will most certainly rise on my list of people to lynch.
