Drogo cast?

Hmm yeees as a woman I find myself quite comfortable with the idea of very young girls being forced into marriages with adult men *as long as the guy's good looking*

Well, i wasn't talking about you in particular. Also, i do not think that good looks alone will be sufficient. But stupidly enough, it will probably somewhat help many.

I'm concerned about the not liking horses bit, to be honest. I may be wrong, but I'm going to obsess about it for ever.

If you obsess, you will be upset!

OTOH, I'm confident. The riding will be very simple. Most at a walk, as someone else mentioned. He'll also need to leave and arrive, which may be at a canter/gallop, but those will be short.

Jason is a very athletic person, and I'm sure he'll learn what he needs for the job very quickly. Slap him on a longe line for a week, and he'll have a seat. He's a good actor for this part, so even if he doesn't develop a taste for it, he'll act like he has. :D

But if you obsess, nothing he will do will convince you.

Personally, I think that the caliber of horse that they'll choose for him and the kind of intense training the horse will have will make it a more attractive proposition than he's ever had before and he may well develop a taste for it. Nothing like an excellent steed to give one a taste for riding! Momoa also seems smart and sensitive enough to want to like horses for this part.

Do you ride Pita?

BTW Ran, you probably know that Viggo bought both his chestnut from LOTR and his pinto from Hidalgo.

They have one in New Zealand as well? Cool.

I'd like to know if he had been familiar with the series before he got the opportunity to audition (maybe he's a fantasy reader), and is there anything he's most looking forward to about playing the character (as opposed to the bits he's dreading or nervous about, re: horses, nudity).

Until about a month ago, I used to ride a lot. I'm starting again later today, hopefully I remember everything.

Drogo will have to be ahorse most of the season. It would sort of be like having a Tyrion who refused to be called a dwarf, or a Jon who was afraid of animals. I hope D&D know what they're doing with this guy.

I laughed out loud during LotR when Aragorn's horse bolted away in fear from going into that mountain of the dead. Aragorn called out to it...'Viggo!' hahahaha, clever...

Hate to burst your bubble, but I think he called out "Brego," which was the name of the horse in the movie.

I've just been googling the news and gone through what feels like several dozen fansites and forums (Jesus wept, I had no idea how big Atlantis was) and somewhere in the middle someone from the con said that Jason had read the books and enjoyed them. Absolutely no idea how reliable that is ;)

WIC reported that as well.

"He went on to say that Game of Thrones was one of the best series that he'd read, and everyone should read it."

All the Stargate series have been popular, just like Star Trek. I loved all the shows.

Pita, hope you have a good time in the saddle again. I had a hip replacement last year so I could continue to ride my mare, and ride well I might add. But I think you're worrying too much.

OTOH, when you think about it, I think that the Mongols thought of their horses in a different manner than we do. They were not pets. They were cherished, but cherished for their usefulness. They were a tool. I think of Mongols when I think of the Dothraki. So they treated their horses quite well, but weren't afraid to slaughter them when hunger struck.

What I specifically wanted to know was whether he'd read the series _before_ the possibility of auditioning, though. It's fine if he read it as research for the part and liked it, but just fun to know whether he was aware of it even before that point. :)

I find it a bit creepy that they did pick a very good looking guy for this role, hard to put my finger on why a gross guy would be better though........ I guess it IS the idea that they would think the 'harsh reality' would be softened by the fact the guy is attractive .... yukky.

Like it or not, the fact is that in the book, Dany falls in love with Drogo. From the first, it seems clear that Dany finds Drogo attractive, even as she was naturally terrified by both finding herself in an arranged marriage and the strangeness of the Dothraiki culture itself.

The casting here falls pretty much in line with the books. And is the nature of Dany and Drogo's marriage any "creepier" than Ned's and Catelyn's?

"Well, since your older brother's now dead, you'll have to marry his finace if you want to keep this alliance."

I had a great time today, thank you. But that line just concerns me. I don't expect someone who was raised around horses. I don't expect someone who's a great rider. But him saying "I don't like horses" kinda worries me. I'm sure that in the audition they had him riding a horse, so they'd know if he's any good, but it still worries me somewhat.

Okay, Jason Momoa panel was today, he is such a cool guy. Incredibly charismatic and funny for someone who's going to be playing Drogo. Naturally there was a LOT of Stargate fans so I didn't get time to ask more than ONE question. I got it on video (though he was like OH NO YOU ARE NOT VIDEOING THIS HBO WILL KILL ME so I dropped the camera and pointed it at my leg for a while, then went back to shooting because I'm cool like that), but won't be uploading it 'til later. Here's the basics.

- He has read Game of Thrones but no more of the series. He said it's amazing.

- He thinks Khal Drogo is one bad mofo, and he's a little intimidated by all the fighting and riding he'll be doing (he seems pretty confident it'll get picked up, it seems)

- He thinks he got the gig by doing the haka. He said it scared the shit out of the casting directors, and he tried to act as intimidating as he could, looking at them like "you gon' die", or something similar. He joked that they gave him the job to get the hell out of the building. Apparently there were people in the building wondering what was going on. The haka he performed was the one he did at his cousins funeral, and he wouldn't perform the whole thing for us, he considers it pretty personal.

- The scene he said he's most looking forward to doing is; "where some one tries to kill my wife".

I can't re-watch the video right now (currently downloading video to the computer) so I can't elaborate on what scene he was talking about, I was concentrating on keeping the camera still-ish so was only half hearing what he was saying. Hopefully should be able to upload it within the next few days.

He seems pretty excited about it! Like I said, he's very captivating (beyond his ridiculously good looking exterior), and I'm sure his scenes will be good. He's very tall, but not a tank of a guy. When he was stalking around the stage, talking about his audition, I definitely 'whoa'd.

Thanks, Le Saboteur! I'm guessing the scene he's referring to is

SPOILER: AGoT
when the Lysene guy tries to poison Dany, and she's saved by Jorah. When Drogo is informed of this, he's pretty bad-ass when he rewards him and then promises to have his revenge by taking the "iron chair" of Daenerys's father from Robert, raping his women, etc., etc.

Sound like he is a cool guy who likes to interact with fans. :)

If he can manage to be intimidatory and scary, I'm sure he'll make a truly great Drogo.
