  1. Just watched that bit again - they have a stare off. She looks shocked He looks mad. She looks scared. He looks like he is going to cry. She looks angry and picks up the knife. I got the feeling that Tyrion was so butthurt by her betrayal that he'd been tipped over that crime of passion edge. I though Shae saw it on his face, probably because she was the kind of woman that was used to reading mixes of anger and lust on a dudes face, and decided to strike preemptively. I thought that just from seeing the show, before I read the book. Logically, he was the one who had a reason to be pissed at her, not her at him, by that stage - so why would she attack unless she was afraid of what he was about to do to her?
  2. I thought Shae picked up the knife because she could see Tyrion was pissed with her and she was trying to defend herself.
  3. The books start with some moments of tenderness, as does the show - there isn't much left by book 5. Sure, Jon may still remember Arya tenderly in the books, but his memory is not the reality of what she became, so that is kind of sad, from the holistic POV of the whole saga. Arya is lost, Jon's memory is all that remains of the nice girl. And Jon's memories have died with him, in both books and show.
  4. It was a bit posturing, sure - but order wasn't LFs ladder - only the promise of order which can only exist because of the chaotic pit. He doesn't have an endgame and no reward is enough - that's the point of his little talk - he just wants to keep climbing his ladder and the only way he knows how is by surrounding it with chaos. Re the beetles, what's wrong with that? I watched my puppy kill a beetle by playing with it and then get sad that it stopped moving, the other day. What's the point? Life and death, the power over them - no-one knows the answer to these type of questions, without inventing some faith for themselves, so posturing is the only way to approach it. You forgot the Cersie/Robert talk about marriage, even GRRM wished that was in the books.
  5. There are good and bad points in the show and books, bad being more noticeable with this season and the latest books than prior ones. Overall, though, where it is heading still has me hooked - I wanna' know if the White Walkers are going to save Westeros from all those yucky people, or if the yucky people will prevail :D What direction of the show specifically has you disillusioned, Lady Blackmont? Re your chaotic ladder complaints, I don't think they are really fair. I think the talk was in line with LFs show and book character. What I find really strange, is that many people think the show has become somehow darker and more shocking than the books. I never realised just how bleak this saga was, or exactly where I thought it was going, until I read the books. The show may do some things for shock and awe, but these scenes are like the show sex scenes vs GRRMs sex scenes - the show isn't quite as deeply dark and cynical as the books are. The show likes to show boobs and blood - the books like to relish in human creepiness and despair.
  6. Yea, episode 10 Drogon was animated much better than episode 2 and 9 Drogon in the face. I'm sure it was the same model, though. It may have even been the same animators, just not trying to do the same type of animation - I am not sure. EDIT - Just watched it again. Main difference is the eyes are so much less expressive, much less lid movement. He still makes a semi cute noise, like a little grunt, but it isn't accompanied by emotive eyes and mouth. Dany looks a lot better positioned on his back, also. And his head and neck are animated with much more weight. I do think that the dragon animation may have been shared between at least 2 studios for this season, however, where it was all the single studio in prior seasons. There were far more dragon shots this season, so perhaps it was just too much for a single smallish studio?
  7. I agree with your sentiment - but not the examples. I think Dinklage is a good actor but he may have become a little overrated and let it go to his head. CGI is not irreverent when it is being used to tell a story, ie: cute facial expressions on a serious dragon, or non scary skeletons for beings the production is still trying to sell as scary. 2 things matter - that the CG has the right design for the required tone and that the CG is of consistent quality. I've been doing some research and it seems there are multiple CG companies used in GoTs, which do work to seemingly different standards and styles - this can jolt a viewer faster than consistently poor FX.
  8. People are emotional petals, that vote with their hearts :D We aren't going to change that any time soon, unfortunately.
  9. People are drawn to blood, sex and controversial spectacle - it's as simple as that. If you could open the Colosseum now, you'd make a motza. Instead, because the Colosseum would be illegal, people tuned in to see how nastily a pedophile could be killed by a little girl on screen, what was going to happen to that guy who burnt his daughter, Lena Heady's fake vagina and exactly which major character death are people making a fuss over.
  10. Hizdhars argument with Daario, Dany and Tyrion was fairly mature - but they had to kill him, because he was winning and no-one is allowed dot outsmart Tyrion, even when Tyrion is being stupid. Also, some of the High Sparrow's dialogue was mature. Finally, the grey bedding was fairly mature, as much as people hate it - it was probably the most beautifully sorrowful scene in the entire series.
  11. Le Noir Faineant, This is a good point about GRRM probably being a difficult novelist for a production like GoTs to get along with. Not only is the time it takes for him to release new books an issue but so is his constant introduction of new characters, expanding the story, rather than honing it towards a finale. Re your points about character changes I think that many posters aren't taking the power of celebrity and the actor's voices into account. Selmey was killed to make way for Tyrion to have a more heroic ending and avoid him having to reject a dwarf woman or joust on a pig. I see no reason that D&D would not want to include these things for the controversy - I think they like controversy, otherwise why include underage girls in brothels, burning of children and so on. I think Dinklage himself may have a say in exactly how Tyrion is portrayed and this has more to do with Selmey's death than D&D's choices. As for cutting LSH and including Beric - reason Beric is there is to have resurrection as an accepted part of the universe. Reason LSH isn't there is that a fully dead and gone Stark matriarch is more dramatic overall.
  12. I think the silly skeletons and Drogon's facial animation bring the show closer to jumping the shark than a bit of bad pussy - but then, as Dragon in the North has noted, just above, much of this is down to opinion. I asked my wife if Drogon's face looked silly (she doesn't watch GoTs at all) and she just said,'Nah, it looks like the dragon is happy to see it's mommy.' I said 'but it's a dragon, like a crocodile that breathes fire, not like our puppy, it shouldn't think and emote like our puppy!' Wife says, 'Your taking this show a little bit too seriously.' :D Point being, where something jumps the shark isn't down to individual opinions, but a combination of greater opinion. Obviously the broader audience is open to more liberal and fantastic use of the fantasy elements than I am, which could also suggest that the broader audience may be open to more varied dialogue, like bad pussy, and less step by step character development, than what the book lovers are. We'll know when it jumps the shark by what others think, not ourselves. Case in point, Indiana Jones 4 - the Crystal Shit, or whatever - even before the term 'Nuked the Fridge' had formed on IMDB, there was a general consensus of hatred towards that film. You could go to the pub with a bunch of people who had seen it and if 1 tried to defend it, they would always loose :D GoTs is not there yet, Tyrion has yet to swing through the trees with the monkeys.
  13. I kind of agree with this but, the show hasn't really proved or disproved any major end game theories yet. Dany and her dragons could still be the saviour of the world, or a force for destruction. The White Walkers could still be the sagas great antagonists, or a sympathetic bunch bringing the stories final message with them. Anyone can still be Azor Ahai, including Stannis. Jon and Dany could still make babies at the end, rip each others throats out, or unite to rid Westeros of it's human scum - or all 3 :D All the major stuff is still up for grabs. Butthurt fans are those who are taking the characters and their interpretation of them, too seriously, not those that accept every character is expendable and it's the wider story that is important.
  14. It's possible to do - but it would be a lot easier if the body double had a green mask or something, which it didn't look like in the still shots. Or, the old fashioned way - they find an actress who looks a lot like Lena, apply some makeup and just use her in the distance shots.
  15. I agree they nailed it - but I think it was a body double with some CG composting of Lena's face. if so - it was really goood CG work - which makes me wonder why the hell they can get this so good and fuck up much simpler things like skeletons and dragons. http://sdona008.students.digitalodu.com/?p=235 http://www.techtimes.com/articles/17133/20141003/lena-headey-filmed-her-nude-scene-for-game-of-thrones-except-maybe-not.htm
  16. 9 - it was actually my favorite episode of the season. Drogon was animated without a goofy face - hoo fucking ray!!!!!!!!! Seems like Drogon gets the stomach bug in the show version and not Dany. Everyone needs bad pussy sometimes :D Myrcella dying was just so fucking awesome. Glad Obyren's wife gave her the kiss of death, after she pronounced she was happy with being a child of incest. Daario hanging shit on Tyrion made me smile. Cersie's walk was cool. How did they do the body if it wasn't Heady's? How can they CG a body double better than a dragon? There must be like 5 different FX vrews working on this show, some of whom are great and some of whom are shit. Just found the episode fun to watch, overall.
  17. hehe - I haven't seen it but reading the comments and looking at the votes here has become as entertaining as the show :D Some users have less posts than what there are episodes aired this season :D I wonder if people make duplicate accounts so they can comment and vote again, to make it feel like more people either love or hate as certain episode or even scene? It's kind of sad to think about that and a more nihilistic vision of humanity than GoTs presents. :(
  18. Emotional bias is strong on this forum, which is strange, considering GoTs is a saga that clearly shows how humans being driven by their emotional bias leads to some very dark places :D
  19. That is a good point. Note also that the boats they borrowed belonged to Stannis, who had his army North of the wall in episode 410. I would say that, in show, the port of EastWatch is north of the wall, or at least allows access to either side of the wall.
  20. The whole reason Meryn is a pedophile, I think, is to make Arya's motivations seem more justifiable. Otherwise, he's just a guy following Cerseis' orders and Arya would be the bad guy by revenge killing him. It's a bit convoluted and white washy - but meh, it's nowhere near as bad as Tyrion.
  21. Fully agree on the bold black, half agree on the bold grey - but you are full of shit on the red :) The acting is pretty darn good. The girl who played Shireen was incredibly convincing, and ripped at my heartstrings.
  22. D&D never claimed it would be in a book, just that GRRM told them - there is a difference. Shireen's death has been foreshadowed. Also, there has been a slow turn in Stannis starting to think his purpose is more important than Shireen's, which was solidified by Ramsay's raid. Finally, Stannis isn't the player here - never was. Mel is calling the shots and has been from season 2 - Davos is the only one who can see it and he was sent away.
  23. Who says? HBO have brought the rights to adapt an unfinished series of books - the show is moving forward faster than the books, spoilers are inevitable. So be it. Also, I very much doubt D&D could outright lie about what GRRM has and has not told them without getting sued.
  24. 8 - they all seem to be 7-8 this season - every episode has shit mixed with the good stuff. Good The scene with Shireen was the single best scene all season for me. The way it played out was surprising and dramatic - and it had me more emotionally gripped then any scene other than perhaps the Sansa bedding. Daario and Hizdar talking was also kind of cool. Dorne finally made sense and was enjoyable to watch. Bad Tyrion is becoming more and more of a goody two shoes fuckhead, sorry, I'm totally over him. It's obvious why they killed Selmy now - to give Tyrion something heroic to do, but it just seems forced and stupid - the guy strangled a woman last season, he shouldn't get off so easy. I'm actually more angry over Tyrion becoming the righteous shit he is in show, then I disliked what he became in book. At least in book felt logical and didn't feel like favoritism. Hope the horrid character meets a nasty end. Dany proved to be a fool - if she didn't have dragons, the world would gobble her up. Drogon looked stupid again. Arya must be the most ridiculous spy/assassin ever. General nitpick. CG VFX have been consistently sub-par for me this season, even though production values are generally excellent for sets etc, they need to employ a better VFX studio. Wun Wun now seems to have shrunk back to normal giant size. 1 of the bodies Drogo threw around looked ok, the others again lacked weight and looked stupid.
  25. I wasn't here from the beginning, probably for the best, as I criticize everything - but consistency is important :D
