  1. This is an awesome resource! Thanks for sharing.
  2. Thank you, Ser Knight! I just put in a request to join the group there. I guess I was subbed to the public BwB page here: https://www.facebook.com/bwbfanclub/ Man, I can't wait until next month!
  3. I'm with @Stormking902 and @SurfKook in this regard, but I think it's also just a reflection of Robert's overall wastefulness. Was there some strategy involved in making Ned say 'yes'? Sure there was. But also, he's a king, and one known to live in excess. Of course, if he's making a multi-week trip, he's going to full supporting retinue to provide all the comforts reasonably available to him. As for his family, I would argue that by and large Robert considered Cersei and the kids to be possessions. The whole thing was a big mobile party, and he probably didn't consider at any point whether Cersei and the kids 'wanted' to go, or if it was best for them. It was good for King Robert, so that was that. I doubt he gave them much more consideration than the wine casks he brought with him.
  4. I'm on FB, but haven't seen anything. The BwB FB page I've been following hasn't had any posts since 2015 - is that the right one?

    Small Questions v. 10105

Could be, but I read it as meaning a bit more - namely, that no matter how bad things are now, things are going to get worse and its best to be aware of that fact and prepared for it - toughen up, or die. In the example you give, I'd say Ned is saying something akin to "he must face his fears, things are only going to get worse, he needs to be strong BECAUSE Winter is Coming". Facing your fears is certainly part of it, but I just always got the sense its more than that.

    Details on Prequel Pilot Revealed

I'm stoked as hell about this. I like the idea of exploring something that will likely never be visited in print. They will have a fairly broad license when it comes to content, with only a bare-bones set of plot points to worry about. Anything that doesn't 100% jive with what we've read in the books or seen in the show up to this point isn't too bothersome either, because you could write it off as a millennia-long game of telephone skewing the facts of what really happened.
  7. I'll be there with my wife and 2yo kid. We have our reservations booked for the Fairmont - is there any way to see what actual floors/rooms we've been assigned?

    Norwescon Presence?

Awesome! I'm not far from you, up in Tacoma. At least there'd be a few of us there, it sounds like. I'm pretty new to the con scene, going to try to start hitting Norwescon and Orycon on rotation.

Cool, thanks for the reply Xray!

Can you elaborate? I can't really think of any parallels here, except that they're both 'legendary' or 'heroic' weapons.

    Small questions for ADwD, v.V

They really are! I'm only a few in, but BryndenBFish puts out some really great content.
  12. Hi folks - I'm a PacNW'er - we have Norwescon in Seattle every year. Anyone know if there's usually any BwB presence there?

I also don't remember any overt mention by anyone else that R'Hllor is a god of shadow. I do remember Mel justifying her perspective on this pretty clearly, though - she states that without light there could be no shadows, that shadows are a creation of the light, and therefore not servants of darkness (paraphrasing of course). So, if this is a general approach by all red priests, it makes sense and there appears to be a reason for it. On the other hand, it could just be Mel's personal approach and her way of justifying her use of shadowbinding while also being a red priestess.

I never realized that, thanks for pointing that out!

I agree with HelenaExMachina on this one. My understanding is that George has a particular interest in 15th century medieval history, particularly the events surrounding the War of the Roses which many elements of ASoIaF are based on. This would have been prior to the custom change, so he probably used the honorifics from that time period from both personal preference and for a sense of consistency in source material. Just my thought
