I took a look at Wheatley’s filmography. I have never seen a single one of his films.

I have a microwave pasta cooker and it rocks. Dried pasta, water, a bit of salt. Pop it in, set the timer and go. I don’t even have to watch it. I’m experimenting on doing potatoes in it as well.

1. I didn’t know about Thompson. Only Calley. 2. To hear some people tell it, this type of thing was far more common in ‘68 than some would care to admit. I think that might have even even part of Calley’s defense.

See, I wouldn’t even call it, “trash”. That would be interesting in its own right. I could understand it if it was shit. This is just baffling. Wow! OK, there’s clearly something going on here. Subliminal messages maybe? Do we need to bust out the “They Live” glasses? it’s particularly baffling considering how many animated films got hammered last year. DC: League of Super Pets and The Bad Guys were both much better than this. Puss in Boots 2 is a masterpiece compared to this. Even Lightyear and Strange World hold up pretty well compared to this. None of them come close to Mario’s box office success and some of them were bonafide bombs. Maybe. It’s definitely kind of messy.

A familiar IP for people from 5 to 50 that isn’t tired because of endless sequels and reboots and shared universes. But yeah this is getting stupid. The movie isn’t that good but apparently it gives the right dopamine hit to people in a specific age group. Even more baffling question: why did my niece (who’s 17) see it twice; in the theater?!?

Amsterdam I don’t understand this movie at all. Stellar cast top to bottom; top notch production design; similarly great costumes and sets; great/good performances; Pretty good script and some great scenes. The cinematography isn’t remarkable but it’s competently shot and cut together. It’s subject matter is even something I’m interested in. So why don’t I love this movie? It took me three sittings to get through it just because it was so uninteresting. Make this make sense.

Cinema, Mellon Farmer. This looks kind of amazing actually.

It was a bit weird to me as well but I was on board by the end of the episode. The more I learn about guys like Liddy and Hunt the more I realize those guys may have actually been fucking idiots. Gaslit is very good.

I caught the first episode of White House Plumbers. It’s pretty good but it’s hard to get Shea Whigham’s portrayal of G. Gordon Liddy out of my head. Gaslit basically tells the same story but from a different perspective.

Two things to note about the recent MCU releases (post NWH). 1. There’s a pretty strong correlation between RT score and domestic box office. This is good news as GotG 3’s RT score is pretty good. WoM is also quite good. 2. Within certain bounds, DOM box office earnings curves are remarkably similar. 20% by midnight on the first Friday; 50% by the end of week 1; and between the end of week 6 to week 8, 95-98% of every dollar is in. They’re just going after crumbs after that. The one exception to this was Quantummania, which had even worse legs. It fell just short of A-M 2 domestically despite a significantly higher opening. And while it beat A-M 1 domestically, more than 100% of the difference came on opening weekend. In short, these films have feeble legs so they have to come out of the gate screaming. Maybe this will defy the recent trend, but a $117m opening is not great news.

This was easily the least humorous episode so far. Maybe it’s just me. I’m guessing I’m not alone in this. ¡Callie en fuego! Lottie is getting scary. I’m scared for her. Great performance. The Mustache is so ending up in a stew. That smug sonofabitch is just showing too much damn initiative. The cabin. Wow. Gutted. As in, “I’m gutted”. Metaphorically. Not fictionally literally. I spoil nothing you bastards.

That was in the news a while back. That’s the project he wants to do after Dune 2. No word at what stage the project is in.

Speaking of shameless cash grabs: Blues Brothers 2000. At the time, Blues Brothers was probably my favorite film and I’d seen it a dozen times. I walked out of BB 2000 actually feeling personally insulted. The product placement is insane.

Finished JW:D The epilogue is hilarious. The movie is so clunky. This smacks of reshoots and failing to find the film in the edit. Some cool Dino effects though. Totally agree. I’m tempted to see it again. It doesn’t quite rise to the level of something like The Incredibles, but of the 2022 animated films I’ve seen, it’s second only to Puss in Boots 2. Why it didn’t do better in theaters is anyones guess. 2022 was a weird year for big screen animation. It’s definitely better than Super Mario, which is succeeding at being a massive cash grab.

Some feathered dinosaur with implausibility long claws just merc’d a deer for nibbling on its shrubbery. That seemed gratuitous to me. Like, they’re in the middle of the fucking forest. There’s shrubs everywhere. And how that thing snuck up on that deer is beyond me. Suicide by cop maybe.

Shush you. Chris Pratt is doing the hand thing right now. Him and Blue have, like, a connection, man.

That was a goddamn masterpiece compared to some that have breached that threshold. Fuck it. I’m going to watch the rest of Dominion.

I saw nothing that will leave any lasting effects and I’m not invested in the mythology. Cinematically, what I saw barely barely rose to the level of prestige TV. One billion dollars. How?

I watched about 20 minutes of Jurassic World: Dominion.

I was going to make a pithy comment about Flo Po and tightness in the suit, but reconsidered. LBJ had tightness in his suits. Especially in the crotch. He needed a lot of room if you catch my meaning. There’s audio of him talking to some flunky about buying some pants he liked and he goes on at length about it. Apparently he loved to show off at pool parties. LBJ succeeded JFK and, of course, preceded Nixon. Frank Herbert once described Nixon as the most important president because he taught people to distrust government. This informed his books. I knew I’d tie this back to Dune somehow. Ha! Nailed it.

Are you high? Dune part 1 was infinitely better. While I agree that it was a bit thin on exposition in places, (eg. Yueh’s betrayal kind of came out of nowhere), it’s preferable to the alternative which is way too much. My god the voice overs in the Lynch version are painful to listen to. One of the things I love about Villeneuve is that he crates these amazing set pieces and then had no problem obscuring them in smoke or fog or whatever. Whatever works for the film In the Lynch version we have Paul walk over to a table with a polished gold box containing an array of slender turds; the camera follows Paul’s hand as he retrieves some similarly glossy instrument, scans the box and replaces the instrument in its charger; then he reaches in and retrieves one of the turds; taking a bite; then a voiceover, “Spice!” Like, “GET IT?!?” And it goes on like that. regarding the 2021 film, we know there were a lot of scenes that were cut for time. After part 2 has its run I think there’s a good chance a special edition will be released with that stuff restored.
