  1. Actually I never said any of those comments and I would not because I would be to polite to say that. LOL By the way I never improvised in school because I was the nerd that studied. I have a master's degree and a bachelor's degree in my field of study, so I had to study. Guys, I love your passion and while I may call myself a nerd, I would never presume to call you one.
  2. Whenever someone points out a flaw in the books they are labeled whiners. That is rich coming from people who do nothing but whine about the show. All I am saying is that the books lack focus. You can call it complicated world building if you like, but the reality is that all he is doing is inventing characters and backgrounds. That is not difficult to do, nor is it interesting to read.
  3. :agree: I like the earlier books a lot, but somehow the story has become just too large with too many plots and too many red herrings. It has become too bogged down to be able to even move one storyline, much less dozens of story lines. Perhaps GRRM simply lost interest in the story or maybe it is an issue of his age. I do not know how many readers have actually dealt with elderly people, but one of the first things to go as people age is their patience and their attention span.
  4. I was not whining. I was simply stating that I thought the book was long winded and lacking plot. What I meant was that anybody can invent characters and describe them and all of their relatives and background. That is easy to do. Everyone here on the forums could do that. What is difficult is to make those characters actually do something. The books have become just a long winded who's who of the 7 kingdoms.
  5. This episode was a toss up for me. What I liked I really liked, but there were areas that have just become repetitive and some things I could just do without. What I liked: Stannis saying fewer Stannis and Samwell Davos and Shireen Sansa seeing Theon Dany and her dragons Jorah and Tyrion What I did not like: Missandei and Grey Worm. I do not mind their interest in each other. We get it. They really like each other and it's tragic, but enough already Ramsey's lunacy. I get it. He's nuts. I do not need to see him naked to know he is nuts. Somebody please just kill him off, because he is too stupid to be a great bad guy. Then there is Roose, I want the show to do more with him, because at least he is interesting. Ramsey is too far over the top to be interesting. Dany's proposal. That was just out of nowhere. Too choppy. Dany asking Missandei for ruling advice. I mean really, enough already. Get the woman some decent advisors. Dany's story was a problem in the books and those problems have now appeared on the show. What a mess. There she is living in a pyramid of all places, ruling some piss ant city in the middle of nowhere and she is not even good at that.
  6. :agree: The book was long and boring. There! I have said it! Just because it was long, repetitive and had lots of characters does not mean that it was complicated. It was not complicated. It was just long and boring. Suddenly GRRM dumbs his characters down so they are completely incompetent and they are just wondering around, doing nothing that ever advances the story line. They are just spinning their wheels, while he invents more and more characters that no one cares about. It is easy to invent characters and give them a background. If I asked any of you to give me 10 characters with full names and backgrounds, most of you could do that in 10 minutes. If I then asked you to give me 20 characters that are somehow related to the first 10 characters that you created and give me their back grounds as well, you would probably have it back to me by the end of the day. Now if I ask you to make the characters actually interact and do things while remaining true to the original character that you created, that is where you will begin to run into problems. Well that appears to be what has happened. He is just inventing characters to be inventing characters. They are not advancing the story. Possibly he does not know what he wants them to do. Possibly he has just lost interest in his characters. The point is that he has created a lot of pages of just information on people with just occasional spurts of actual activity. Do I think the show is perfect? No, I do not, but I do think they are doing an excellent job of pulling out the bits and pieces of actual storytelling and putting them on the screen.
  7. Just as the book was written. Considering the source material of the fourth book, I'm surprised they found any story to tell at all. Are you really surprised that the pace is uneven? Look at the mess that GRRM has created. Oh sure it is big. It is sprawling. Mainly it's a bunch of second tier characters wondering around doing absolutely nothing. By the way I saw where George's editor took to twitter to complain about the the death of Ser Barriston. Now that is something I would never admit to being. George's editor. You might want to make sure you never put that on your resume. :lmao:
  8. The show is moving along and that is the main thing for me. Honestly I was tired of endless pages of characters either not doing anything and just wandering around in Westeros. It is a 10 hour show and their time is limited. D&D have to make the story lines move and since George did not bother doing that, they have to condense that endless drivel of George's into some sort of action. I would much rather have the 10 hours of the show creating a moving story than 1000 hours on film of those characters plus another group of characters that no one cares about just wandering around doing absolutely nothing. As of right now, we do not know Littlefinger's endgame. It is possible that he does not know much about Ramsay, just as it is equally possible that he does know more about Ramsay. Perhaps he knows and is simply counting on Roose recognizing Sansa as a valuable asset thus not killing her. I do not think he cares if they hurt Sansa. I cannot tell at this point if Littlefinger is completely out of character right now or not. A lot of people seem to think that Littlefinger truly cares for Sansa and I really do not see any real support for this. Sansa is simply a Stark and therefore valuable to him as the key to the North. I know everybody wants to say but he loves her and sees her as a second chance of Cat. I never saw his feeling toward Cat as genuine. I always believed that he saw Cat as a means to rise up in life. Littlefinger is simply ambitious and this storyline is just another example of his character. People should stop romanticizing Littlefinger and see him for what he is, another extremely ambitious man that will use whatever is at his disposal to make a move for the throne. Any other opinion of Littlefinger is simply fan fiction.
  9. LOL How about your own user name of Nara. Now is that pronounced like Naira, or is it like Nora or is it Naura like Laura or is it Nara like Lara in Dr. Zhavigo? Now of course I have the Narwhal song song stuck in my head. Nara Nara living in the ocean Causing a commotion Cause you are so awesome Now you have your own theme song like Stannis does.
  10. I do not think the problem lies with the nudity itself. It is just that the scenes are rather pointless in that they do not move the storyline along. Time is very limited with the show and I do not wish to see minor characters naked or otherwise. Personally I do not mind nudity in general, but I do find it a waste of very limited time in this particular instance. Now having said that, the only time the nude scenes really worked were with Oberyn in the brothel. Those scenes were hilarious. I died laughing when he said to Oliver, "Are you calling my beauty an acquired taste." I still crack up whenever I think of it. I also liked the scene where Tywin walked in on Oberyn and the naked whores had to walk by the very straight laced Tywin Lannister. Now that was hilarious. I wonder if they put it on their resumes. I walked by Tywin Lannister naked on HBO's "Game of Thrones".
  11. Thank you for saying this. I had this horrible vision of the show just getting mired down like the books did. All of those chapters of useless people doing nothing. I mean doing absolutely nothing. Thank the old gods and the new gods, someone wrote a store where characters are actually doing something.
  12. I was watching episode 501 again last night when I noticed the clothing that Tyrion and Varys had on when Varys brought up Dany and Mereen. Those costumes looked like Mother and daughter matching outfits. That made me laugh out loud. I did not notice that the first time.
  13. Your full quote does not help you any. I can just picture that HBO board meeting. I guess the commentary would be something like, "Off with the heads of those Game of Thrones writers and while you are at it, go ahead and cancel this show. I do not care that it is our most successful show. What do you think we are running around here? Some kind of business that is supposed to turn a profit? We are not about profit. If they are not going to put each and everyone of those insignificant side characters in, there is no point in having this show on at all." Hey, I have a great idea. If you do not like the show, do not watch it. I feel your pain. I really do. There have been books that I liked, that for whatever reason, I did not like the film adaptation. When that has been the case, I simply either turned off the TV midway or I do not watch the following films or episodes. I do hope that you understand that you have free will to turn off that TV. I always think hate watching is such a waste of time when you could be spending your time reading or watching something that you actually enjoy. 7 blessings my friend and fellow lover of ASOIAF.
  14. LOL That would not be a good business decision and so it's a good thing for HBO investors that you are not running HBO. You do know that the show is their most successful series, even surpassing The Sopranos. Considering the large mess, that the showrunners have to work with, I think they do an excellent job of streamlining it and bringing it to the screen. I enjoy the show and I enjoy the books. You do understand that no one is forcing you to watch show? If they put everything that is in those overblown, unedited books into the show, it would be 1000 hours of just meandering drivel and that would not be much fun to watch.
  15. :agree: I gave the show a 7, but I did think that as far as season premieres go, it was really good. Most of the time on the season premieres, they just go around and say "Howdy" to everyone. This episode felt like they were actually moving some of the storylines, rather than just running around and visiting everyone so they can get some screen time.
