Okay, folks, so far I've seen no issues and the server is now steady, so I think we're fine to say that you can now work on this wiki. Do let me know if there are any issues with things like uploading images, getting thumbnails made, etc.

I've just uploaded two files that don't produce thumbnails: Dothraki.svg and Naath.svg.

@Mindset and @Potsk have raised an issue with the naming convention in the characters infobox on the wiki recently.

Should we continue to avoid spoiler in the name part header of the infobox ? The time of the GOT show is passed and the weight book spoilers had in the past has lessened over the years. Is avoiding spoilers for the main series of books still a priority these days ?

For example, should we continue to refer to Bronn in the infobox as simply "Bronn" as he is known at the start of the series, or "Ser Bronn of the Blackwater" as he is known by the end of ACOK, or "Lord Bronn" or even "Lord Bronn Stokeworth" as he likes to be known by the end of AFFC ?

It's not like the naming convention we use has been 100% spoiler proof. Kings have always been refer as such, even if we meet them prior to their coronation (e.g. King Robb Stark).

I'd like people to give their opinion on this issue, so we can all respect the same naming schema for everyone and keep the wiki coherent.

    @Ran @The Wondering Wolf @Abjiklam @Gonzalo @Nittanian

As a reader of wikis, I'd love some kind of spoiler control, at least on infoboxes. It sometimes happens that I want some quick information about a character on some wiki and have it spoiled by the infobox.

On the subject of nicknames in the infobox header, I don't think the "title" and "nickname" parameters should be used together. Likely Luke wouldn't be called "Ser Likely Luke" in-universe, he would either be "Ser Luke" or "Likely Luke." Yohn Royce is never called "Lord Bronze Yohn Royce," he's either "Lord Yohn" or "Bronze Yohn."

In my opinion the "epithet" parameter should only include frequently used proper epithets. Putting "the witch queen" in the header of Alys Rivers doesn't seem warranted to me, especially considering it's written in all lowercase and is more of a description or insult than an epithet. Putting "the witch queen" there is no different from putting "the baseborn wet nurse."

I agree with you. The name module leaves a lot of possibilities open, but it doesn't mean we need to pack the name with as many parts as possible.

@Abjiklam I have a question on the labels in the infobox header.

Since the label "nickname" appears above/before the name of the character and the label "epithet" under it. How do you arrange the labels in the edit for noble characters with nickname(s) and title(s) but no epithet. For example Lord Samwell "Savage Sam" Tarly, I've placed "Savage Sam" under the label epithet so it appears under the charater name, but really "Savage Sam" is a nickname. The epithet equivalent would be "the Savage".

Lord Bronze Yohn Royce works well enough here because the firstname doesn't change unlike Samwell/Sam.

It's a small detail but I would prefer to edit the infobox correctly on the first try if possible.

There's a `nametemplate` parameter you can use to specify the order of a name's parts. For example, if you want the nickname to come below the rest, you can write the following:

    | nametemplate = title/firstname-lastname/nickname

The template should always contain 2 slashes which separate the prefix, the main part, and the suffix. You can leave any of the parts empty, but the slashes must be there. Hope this helps!

Edit: You can find many examples here: Category:Character pages with custom nametemplate

If you give me a list of files -- the links to the actual files themselves, not the wiki pages, if possible -- I can investigate.

I've found one image giving issue: File:House Magnar.svg.

The PNG render at 250px width is working fine (250px-House_Magnar.svg.png), but not at 32px width (32px-House_Magnar.svg.png).

When accessing the link directly, a "404 - Not Found" error is returned. Meanwhile, inserting the image in a wiki page leads to the following message: "Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination".

A few pages i've run across have images from a certain game of Dolldivine and Azalea's Dolls making, and i'm in doubt on how to proceed. Those images are, in the file info, listed as public domain, but they were not stated as public domain on either website. The Dolldivine website has claimed, on their FAQ, that permission for use as avatars, as i see them used on the pages, is allowed, but that permission must be asked from any other artists involved in the making of the games too, in this case Azalea's Dolls, which was not specified on file, only that they were public domain, which, again, they're not. Should those be removed from pages until that permission is specified?

Which images are those? The copyright status should be corrected if that is true.

I've already reuploaded all the known problematic SVGs under new names, but next time this happens I'll let you know.

I think it has something to do with @Abjiklam recently changing the default image size for the infobox? Not sure why that was changed (especially considering that so many pages have images set to sizes to match the previous default image size). I'll change it back for the moment to see if it helps.

This is a general problem on this wiki. Sometimes it decides it cannot render an image to new, presumably not yet cached, dimensions. It's happened before with particularly large SVG files, but I guess it also happens with raster images.  I assume it happens when the cache for a file gets too large, but I have no idea whether that's the case and how one might go about fixing it.

I think showing the symbol for the Faith of the Seven in the infobox of the members of the Poor Fellows and the Warrior's Sons to be pointless since those characters already have either the Star of the Poor Fellows or the Sword of the Warrior's Sons. I vote to keep the Star and Swords but delete Faith of the Seven star, do you agree ?

However, as he was a septon before the Faith Militant Uprising, both the Faith and the Poor Fellows sigils can stay for Septon Moon.

I agree with you, I'd rather keep the Faith of the Seven star only for septons/septa and other brothers/sisters. As you pointed out, it makes characters like Septon Moon stand out for being both a septon and a poor fellow.

I'm not sure what you where going for, so i don't know which one is correct. But on the house pages of house Manderly and Dayne the infobox is now much bigger while on the page of house Lannister its stil the old size.

I have not looked at other house pages yet, and as i said i don't know what you where going for but this is what stood out for me.

It should now be fixed, thanks. You can see the intent by visiting the site on mobile.

  11. The responsive styling I added a few weeks ago for infoboxes and images in the wiki seems to finally be live. You may need to refresh to see the changes.

On mobile, infoboxes should look similar to Wikipedia's mobile website and images should never take more than the available screen width.

Let me know if something doesn't look right.

Hi guys, the House of the Dragon article on the Wiki apparently has a template error somewhere as a category called "Pages containing cite templates with deprecated parameters" appears. Does anyone know where the problem come from ?

I fixed it. The problem was calling Template:Cite web with the parameter "access-date". Apparently the template only takes the parameter "accessdate" without hyphen.

    @Abjiklam and @Ran

It was only a proposition on my part. If you don't agree, then don't bother with it. I'm okay with leaving it as it is. ;)

I've copied over all the relevant templates and subtemplates here:

@Ran In order for the templates to work, we must copy the content of Template:Tree list/styles.css into the wiki's CSS. Since every rule starts with ".treeview", this should have no effect on anything else in the wiki.

However, I don't know how to create this template to use it in the ASOIAF wiki.

Creating this particular template would involve editing the wiki's stylesheet, which only @Ran can do.

Alternatively, the TemplateStyles extension could be installed to allow editors to create template with custom styling without editing the site's CSS.

I'm a bit confused on the arms of House Bridges. The Citadel says "A black stone bridge with three arches upon a golden chief above bendy blue and white" and depicts it like this. So how did this end up as "a black stone bridge with three arches upon a golden chief above three blue pallets on white", as the wiki claims?

Seems like the wiki has always had this one wrong: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php?title=House_Bridges&oldid=20946

  16. I'm having trouble uploading new versions of some files. I keep getting the error message:

    • Could not read or write file "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/b/bb/House_Stonehouse.svg" due to insufficient permissions or missing directories/containers.
    • Could not store file "/tmp/phpj0sNhl" at "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/b/bb/House_Stonehouse.svg".

This problem is affecting the file House Stonehouse.svg as well as some others.

For the file House Hoare.svg, I tried deleting the old file and reuploading it, but now its thumbnail cannot be generated (see here).

@Ran Do you know a solution for this?
