I think it was adequatly defended in terms of manpower. Back when Stannis left the garrison there, he had men enough to spare for a proper defence and he's a cautious man. Storm's End is a strong castle and you need a fleet to besiege it properly. And Mace Tyrell has proved that he's not the type who will dare a direct assault.

When Doran and co. learn how Quentyn died it will be only a matter of time before they join "Aegon", I think. And assuming he buys the story about "Aegon"'s parentage, he might feel that this is the only reasonable course of action. Dorne never cared about Dany's claim, they wanted to join her simply to take revenge on the Lannisters for the deaths of Elia and the kids; with one of Elia's kids around, Dany becomes useless for them.

Knights of the Kingsguard can't inherit anything. Once they take the white cloak and say their vows, they're out of any line of succession. If Jaime is listed as the heir of Casterly Rock this is either a glaring mistake or a reflection of Tywin's desire to find a way to get his son out of the Kingsguard.

Yay, I missed the big news! Nevermind me, it is [i]so[/i] unbelievably cool to know one more fact about the series. Though I gotta say, I lot of folks figured it out that the cliffhanger at the end will be the "things I do for love"-one. It just comes naturally and ought to impress the suits at HBO...
