The reason I mentioned it is that apparently she dropped that name in the wake of trumpism/ her namesake (I actually thought they were related) not being that into him.

Damn, now I have to watch the Cheesebro/ Powell trial. They have subpoenaed Ms Romney McDaniels and... Alex Jones.

LOL. People are joking that Pence should step in. Aaand that's it. Home Alone for Kevin, I guess. I suspect he might run again, though. Seriously.

And I think their chances of taking back the house will go up.

Stop the count! Big dumps!

Btw, I have no idea what Gaetz' end goal is here. Audition for Florida governor? ETA: #SantosForSpeaker! If I was still on twitter, I'd try to get that trending.

I've literally just opened a bag of potato chips! No popcorn, sadly. As for electing a speaker who isn't a member... Who would Mattie accept? Alex Jones? The former dude with the many indictments? Both lazy af and incompetent, so go ahead, good luck.

Oh wow, I haven't watched Morse yet, so this is a bit of a bummer. That said, season 3 of Endeavour started with a really bad episode. No idea if they took on new writers, but I'm less enthused about it now, as I'm not feeling the second episode, either. Something's off.

I totally missed TFG's mesage to workers on labor day: "You're going to hell!"

They're thinking they'll delay compliance until it's too late for changes, as has been successful with other constituencies. - The tealeaves seem to spell out that George whatever-his-real-name Santos is close to taking a plea deal. I hope he'll get more than a little slap on the wrist.

I watched the first episode of endeavour and quite enjoyed it, even though I guessed the murderer quite early. I like period pieces, the hero, and the pacing. Lovely music, too...

Kemp says he'll quash any attempts to impeach Willis. Let's hope he'll keep that promise. ETA For a little bit of fun: The ‘curious’ case of Scott's bachelor status unsettles GOP donors In their desperate quest to find a 2024 alternative to former President Donald Trump, GOP donors have stumbled upon an elephant in the room: Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina is single. That fact, long known among casual political observers, has suddenly sparked “curiosity” and a round of pearl-clutching among the GOP's well-heeled donors, some of whom spoke to Axios anonymously given the "sensitivity of the issue." As Axios notes, the country has not put a bachelor in the White House since Grover Cleveland in 1884. https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/8/31/2190764/-Why-don-t-they-just-say-it-Republican-donors-are-afraid-Tim-Scott-is-gay -

Judge holds Giuliani liable in Georgia election workers’ defamation case and orders him to pay fees A federal judge on Wednesday held Rudy Giuliani liable in a defamation lawsuit brought by two Georgia election workers who say they were falsely accused of fraud, entering a default judgment against the former New York City mayor and ordering him to pay tens of thousands of dollars in lawyers’ fees. U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell said the punishment was necessary because Giuliani had ignored his duty as a defendant to turn over information requested by election workers Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Wandrea’ ArShaye Moss, as part of their lawsuit. (...) “Nothing can restore all we lost, but today’s ruling is yet another neutral finding that has confirmed what we have known all along: that there was never any truth to any of the accusations about us and that we did nothing wrong. We were smeared for purely political reasons, and the people responsible can and should be held accountable,” they said. ... https://apnews.com/article/giuliani-georgia-election-workers-defamation-lawsuit-9b561a195fb74d991abc89d1b6587d66 -

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/aug/28/eminem-vivek-ramaswamy-cease-desist-letter Eminem demands Vivek Ramaswamy cease using his music on campaign trail Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, objected to Ramaswamy’s use of his compositions and was revoking a license to use them. The letter, dated 23 August, became public weeks after Ramaswamy, 38, a financial investor and politics newcomer, mounted an impromptu performance of Lose Yourself by Eminem at the Iowa State Fair, bemusing many Republicans but securing a measure of internet renown... In its letter to the Ramaswamy campaign, Broadcast Music, Inc (BMI) said it “will consider any performance of the Eminem works by the Vivek 2024 campaign from this date forward to be a material breach of the agreement for which BMI reserves all rights and remedies”. -

GOP silences ‘Tennessee Three’ Democrat on House floor for day on ‘out of order’ rule; crowd erupts ... Under new rules adopted by the GOP-dominant chamber last week, members can be silenced anywhere from a day to the rest of the year for not sticking to the bill being debated. “What our schools need are mental health professionals,” Jones said. “We need funding for mental health, for counselors. We need to pay our teachers better. We don’t need more police in our schools.”... https://apnews.com/article/tennessee-special-session-gun-control-f0af470eb6f377633735c5a1dcefa66f -

Even the Pope finds US conservatives too right-wing! Pope Francis has blasted the “backwardness” of some conservatives in the U.S. Catholic Church, saying they have replaced faith with ideology and that a correct understanding of Catholic doctrine allows for change over time. Francis’ comments were an acknowledgment of the divisions in the U.S. Catholic Church, which has been split between progressives and conservatives who long found support in the doctrinaire papacies of St. John Paul II and Benedict XVI, particularly on issues of abortion and same-sex marriage. https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/8/28/2190133/-Pope-says-backward-U-S-conservatives-have-replaced-faith-with-ideology In other news, Meadows has, to the surprise of everyone, decided to take the stand in his hearing. Meadows, who was charged earlier this month along with former President Donald Trump and 17 other people, was questioned by both his lawyers and prosecutors — with a couple of Trump’s attorneys sitting in the courtroom listening in. Cross-examination was set to continue after a lunch break. After the defense finishes its case, it will be the prosecution’s turn to call witnesses. ... https://apnews.com/article/trump-meadows-georgia-election-indictment-2020-5667470abe4aadabb16f4a4b781a3e1c
