as if the D&D just thought, "this'll shock 'em".

It's glaringly apparent that 99% of the writing currently aims for shock value and last minute saves. They'll sacrifice whatever they need to to achieve it. Plot, character arcs and development, logic etc...

It's like they decided to make nearly every moment of the past seasons some mini version of the Red Wedding.

I'm so disgusted with this show.

All these discussions about who’s got a better claim are adjudicated in the book as in real life by wars or assasinations.

Yeah the only benefit of a stronger claim is it's likely it would get you a bigger army and more allies.

Having a claim is step 1. Then you must 2. lay claim through war or assassination. Then 3. hold your claim against war or assassination

It's very survival of the fittest. The throne belongs to whoever can claim it, take it and hold it.

So far Cersei is a champ.

Has no one heard of recon first. How does Dany's ships always get ambush?

At this point Daenerys is too incompetent to be on the throne along with the fact I'm sure she will soon be too crazy. The mad Queen. It's being set up.

What a waste of dragons on her.

Can Jon like, hatch some dragons?

And the years following her story arch. Waste of time, in the end, to only discover I quite dislike her.

Heck I might even prefer Cersei on the throne over Danaerys, at least she's cold calculating and cunning. Instead of clueless and crazy.

I don't think he would have died. He was killed with Valyrian steel, non Dragonglass. A Valyrian steel dagger with dragonbone hilt, maybe that matters too...

Well, we know for certain dragon glass kills the white walkers. But Valaryan steel is "magic" so who knows.

the Night King gloating his way to death like a template from c grade movie.

Maybe it's just me but the way they did the Night King's makeup when he grinned and/or smirked he looked kinda like a cartoon character or clown or something. Not terrifying, but rather a little goofy. Maybe it's me.

There's a psychological phenomenon where people hear what they want to hear.

Truly I have no idea what Jon was doing. Upon first watching I assumed he had just reached a breaking point and had given up; deciding to let Viserion just roast him and was simply screaming in helpless frustration. He didn't even try to use his Valaryan steel sword.

But it's ok. Arya saved him. Yay!

It's more useless headcanon, subtitles says he  yells "Yarrggh" or some crap.

It sounds like he screams go! But it looks like he's yelling at Viserion to go. Like trying to tame him. Silly Targaryan. Not possible to tame a wight dragon.

    Not buying the Arya thing.

That would have been FANTASTIC and a good reference book lore.

Easy to do too. Have killing the night king only destroy the wights he personally created. Leaves the white walkers and many wights still but a way more reasonable number. Then have a final epic battle ensue with more even odds.

Jon TRIED to get him one on one as well, but the Swag King raised the roof, along with the dead around him and kept walking.

If Theon had just saved 1 more dragonglass arrow. Wouldn't have had to suicide himself in a quarter mile spear charge.

Might have even been the one to save the day.

The scene with Jon and Viserion was just a hopeless writting.... They really dont know what to do.

Should have at least had him draw his sword and attack. It is Valaryan steel. Maybe has a Chance.

But yelling was less "empowering" I guess. So they went with that.

Overall Jon has become, to me, a bland and uninspiring character and it's kinda sad.

On second watching it does look as though the Dothraki charge before they are supposed to.

Yeah. It wasn't shown very well. But Jorah is their commander I assume and he gave no command. They just went. Which is believable as they are undisciplined and arrogant in general and IIRC had never seen the dead army.

Whether the premature attack made a difference, I doubt it.

If there were no flanks, please do let me know where Jon and Dany were watching from

Well I mean everything has a "flank" if you go far enough. But Daenerys and Jon we're waaaaay out of any useful tactical range so that's not really a "flank" more of a "safe vantage point".

The question that needs to be answered first and foremost is, did they know the size of the Army of the Dead? They should have but it doesn't mean they did. Bran hasn't exactly been "useful".

Let's be honest, the Bran Bait Plan is kind of flawed at least equally as much as the Dothroki charge?

And if Bran knew ahead of time it was to be Arya, why not have Arya already hidden in the Weirwood Grove before the battle?

I mean if you pick it apart enough, none of it makes much sense.

But it did have cool visuals.

I don't think anyone with any sense sends off a cavalry charge without a plan to support the attack, undead or otherwise. At the very least it has to be a decoy for something.

Well yeah. If they were going to meet on the open field the infantry maybe should have followed behind however, if the good guys and bad guys get all tangled up fighting the dragons can't burn the dead without burning the living. Poses a problem. Really when lighting their weapons on fire Mel should've also passed out red shirts to them all.

  14. 52 minutes ago, Dolorous Gabe said:

Why sacrifice the entire horde on a kamikaze charge when you could have the Dothraki charge into the flanks of the undead as they attack the Unsullied?

I keep seeing mention of these mysterious "flanks" of the undead horde. There weren't flanks. It was a massive overwhelming disorganized ocean of thousands upon thousands of fast moving undead.

    It was hopeless

And cavalry being nearly worthless given the shock and awe value was completely useless against this foe.

Seriously right before the battle Daenerys should have said "Now go flank them!"

"Flank" wink wink being a code word for get the hell out of here so in case we win I still have an army albeit a small one.

The unsullied otoh have always been expendable ; )

What would have made sense is to use the dragons to kill the army of the dead as the first order of the battle.

They went all in on the Bran plan and it wasn't ever a force v. force strategy.

11 minutes ago, Cas Stark said:

Maybe she should have left the Dothraki on dragonstone for this very reason, their skills are offensive, which won't work against this enemy.

Agreed. Which Tyrion should have maybe suggested were he actually smart unlike how the show has portrayed him.

I'm still not convinced the Dothroki would have charged a massive army of dead and sacrificed themselves for her and Westeros.

I mean I know they like her... But that?

More likely they head for the nearest port for passage back home.

  16. 1 hour ago, Dolorous Gabe said:

A failed plan that was at least a decent idea would not have been seen as moronic. The Dothraki charge was never close to a decent idea.

Cavalry are a specific tool used a specific way to be effective. Mainly they charge. The horse needs speed to crash into the foe.

Many cavalry charges in history have failed.

But just because you might miss you don't use your rifle as a club. It's a rifle. It's made to shoot.

However, I'll say this. Bran should have been able to tell them the size of the AotD. The 10k Dothroki charge makes more sense if they assumed a smaller force was arrayed against them.

That being said let's say this, if their opponent could wipe out 10,000 Dothroki in mere seconds, there's no chance at all of any of them surviving for long under any circumstances or whatever the tactics.

What makes sense is retreating. But if you retreat their army just gets bigger and bigger as they kill the peasants along the way.

The further you retreat the stronger they become.

In a sense this foe is too powerful. But also too weak, having an Achilles heel in the Night King dying.

So they wipe out everything or are wiped out instantly. With no middle ground.
