    [Book Spoilers] EP510 Discussion

I just found the Finale hilarious. I mean its So Bad, It's Good all over. I just felt, "Oh, look at you, you think you know anything about characterization, storytelling, logic." its like watching a child rewrite the books but because they don't know what the big words mean, they rephrase it to something that is comprehensible to their infant heads rather than consult a dictionary.

    why was Ladystoneheart cut out

Seriously her hair all gray, her throat cut and the way the Brotherhood have become dark, hanging the hostage even after the dude arrives with the ransom and then hanging him too without so much as a defense. The last chapter of ASOS is really gothic and horror story. We have this semi-sympathetic Frey as well. I think making Stoneheart sympathetic to Brienne defeats the purpose. There are a bunch of reasons why I think they adapted her out but the main reason is, and this shows why Game of Thrones is such a conservative show ultimately, Stoneheart works better the less you see her. She has two on-screen appearances in the book and a lot of background mentions and that's why she's so effecitve. In the show, they have to make Stoneheart-Cat into a character to justify paying the actor's salary and the like. It's why Littlefinger is a supervillain on the show and starts teleporting across the Continent, as such he's not menacing and mysterious anymore. Varys is though, surprisingly enough.

    why was Ladystoneheart cut out

Well, in ASOS and the later books, Catelyn coming back as a monstrous ghost isn't really very uplifting. And then at the end of AFFC she is willing to hang innocent Pod as well. And in any case they already established resurrections with Beric Dondarrion, so logically it would have made sense for them to go there. Especially since the BWB were fairly popular.

    why was Ladystoneheart cut out

I honestly don't get why people still think Stoneheart would appear. It's too late to bring her in, everyone has obliquely confirmed she's cut and the entire Riverlands has been removed.

    why was Ladystoneheart cut out

Or for that matter why not have Brienne hang out with Septon Meribald and interact with smallfolk and battered veterans. Why not give her the most important scenes where she confesses to the priest at the Sept at Quiet Isle and decides she will go forth on her quest. Why not have her kill Rorge and Biter?

    why was Ladystoneheart cut out

George RR Martin has completely refuted that argument:“Lady Stoneheart does have a role in the books,” Martin said. “Whether it’s sufficient or interesting enough… I think it is, or I wouldn’t have put her in.” http://www.ew.com/article/2015/05/31/game-thrones-lady-stoneheart I think the main reason they removed Stoneheart (which I think was a late decision) is that they didn't really like Catelyn Stark's character. Likewise, after Season 3, they got overpraised for the Red Wedding and so they decided that if they put Stoneheart the newsmedia might feel they are copping out, so they removed it altogether. If they were never going to include Stoneheart why did they include the BWB, why spend so much time with Beric Dondarrion, and the whole "coming-back-from-death" thing? I think the iniital idea was to bring Stoneheart back next season but they changed that after Season 3. Ideally if they were going to include her, they should have resurrected her at the end of S3 in the final scene.
