  1. Is Simmons popular? Content aside, I can't stand his accent. If I recall correctly, he has this annoying drawl that is incredibly frustrating. Anyway, wonder what options the Suns have. Do they just try again with the same core or do they try and trade Paul and/or Ayton? Don't think they have any draft picks left after getting KD, and they probably don't have any cap space either.
  2. I don't think we can say for sure either way. Sure, everyone is better with more practice, but whether they will be good or not is a toss up and more importantly, the entire thing is an exercise in futility. Nobody can prove anything, the only thing that is for sure is that they met the challenges they faced and were successful in their time. Anyway, just looking at current players. Morant looked like he could shoot threes for awhile, but he regressed. Same for Giannis. Kawhi supposedly couldn't shoot before he joined the Spurs. Think Wilbur already provided a list of centers that did make the conversion to be able to shoot. Its a little hit and miss, and I'm not sure there is any predictive value.
  3. It's just been two games so far, but I thought that the Suns were the Nuggets worst match up defensively and that the Nuggets would have had to average 120+ points to win. Didn't think that they'd hold up as well as they did, especially with their prior history although maybe that will change in Phoenix. If they win, then its credit to the front office for getting them the players needed, even if they whiffed on Jordan, Bryant and Jackson, the fit for Gordon, KCP, Brown and Green has been really good. Braun has been a good pick too, not as good as Campazzo offensively, but he's longer and more athletic and works just as hard defensively. Deficiencies aside, Jokic does have his height going for him. I think its more players like Kyle Anderson that triggers disbelief. Not that he is a star or anything.
  4. Don't think Duncan even attempted them. Think Marc Gasol successfully made the conversion to shoot threes, but he lost the ability to score inside at the same time. Not sure if it's age or more emphasis on shooting practice. Anyway, I don't think its necessary for centers to be able to. If the centers are score reliably from the paint, its not a big deal if they can't shoot from three. Spacing is not just giving the team a path to the basket. Drawing defenders to the paint gives more space for shooters too. __ The way the Bucks lost has to be especially painful, having a big lead after the third the past two games.
  5. Hopefully we can still do so in the future. Even if not 4K, seems that we are being pushed towards 1440p. 21" monitors are practically not in production anymore. I'm dreading the day that 24" monitors are also eliminated and only 27" and above are available.
  6. I don't know about Robinson and the earlier supporting cast on the Spurs, but Kawhi during their title run was a couple of years before his prime. He was already impressive defensively, but his offense consisted solely of catch and shoot threes or drive and dunk. Its simple and effective to be sure, but that definitely was not prime Kawhi.
  7. I got the impression that his plan was to finish Kvothe's story up till the point he left the University and build on Temerant(?) covering other periods and places and not necessarily with Kvothe as the protagonist. The minimum hurdle he needs to clear now is have Kvothe save a princess and kill a king? I don't expect him to clear up the mythology portion of the story. It'd be nice if he manages to do so, but it's a big hole he needs to fill and he'll be using material he could use for other books.
  8. Did any of you donate for the chapter? I sure didn't. What makes you think his cult fans won't make excuses for him while still continuing to donate? And it wouldn't be a surprise if he has already missed other stretch goal promises prior to this.
  9. Maybe they're just selling Alan Lee's art? Speaking of which, I haven't started on my copy of Beren and Luthien. Not sure if I ever bought Fall of Gondolin.
  10. Just to list an example, I think he said somewhere, maybe in the foreword of Slow Regard or even before that, that Auri wasn't in the initial draft. Seems like he dug an enormous hole for himself just from that given how he built up the mystery around her.
  11. I don't think he's actually printing it himself inhouse, just publishing it which seems simple enough. Seems like he's already sourced for quotes and all that so all he needs to do is come up with the money and maybe mail out the physical copies himself.
  12. I assume he didn't think that far ahead and just wanted to remind them of why they're watching his stream in the first place, plus he'd get out of it he just managed to kill the dragon or something.
  13. Because he was getting mocked on twitch and that was his way of putting on a strong front.
  14. Eh, putting the depth and longevity of the story aside, I'm not overly impressed by the length. Plot wise, I don't think there really is that much going on, on average per chapter, between the large panels, short chapter lengths and individual match ups across the crew. The panel's are usually incredibly detailed unlike Kubo's literal waste of ink late Bleach, but it doesn't help to progress the story.
  15. Can't say I share that sentiment. Obviously we've discussed the books when the books came out, but that's probably not been for "a while". Does Slow Regard count? Thistlepong even made a website for it. We've also revisited the books when a user starts the series, infrequent as that may be. Also, we don't fill twenty pages of how the next book is never coming. We fill it with discussion of Rothfuss' latest gaffes, which are not necessarily related to the books either. Not sure what concluding that it's Rothfuss' fault mean either. The author is responsible for submitting the book after all, do you mean that we should put the blame on DAW for not publishing? Or is that we're bemoaning that the book is not out? I think you'll find that most of us are actually quite happy to move on and revisit the books when they are released. We don't paw at Rothfuss for the book.
  16. Amazon says your second book clocks in at 71 pages though.
  17. As long as you aren't keeping up with Rothfuss on twitch and twitter. In that case, you aren't just waiting but following. Either way, I feel like getting anticipating the completion of the book is a bit too much. Even when it's officially done, you're probably still stuck waiting for at least six months. No need to start interpreting his actions for signs of life and getting excited over it now. I think you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.
  18. Yes, that's what Scot said. It's not like she said that yes, he's admitted that he has nothing done. She said that she hasn't seen anything. It basically goes down to whether you're willing to extend Rothfuss the benefit of the doubt. The charitable interpretation is that he's stuck and unwilling to seek help, the other end of it is that he's doing nothing. Either way, we're still not any clearer on his progress, the whys and hows lead to the same result, which is why I'm taking the stance of official announcement or nothing.
  19. I don't think they've ever laid it out plainly. Context, choice of words and all that.
  20. Felt like it was more interpreted to that effect than anything definite. Don't think it was ever established as fact from a reliable source.
  21. Scot, I'm not telling you how to live your life, but when it's done, the news will travel. Speculating and following his progress is just a waste of time. Unless you're of the opinion that he doesn't work, he's probably written and rewritten enough to fill a couple of books at least. It isn't done because he can't reach a satisfactory resolution and is stuck. But if you're of the opinion that he doesn't work, then sure, every word is progress. It still doesn't tell you how much longer it will take though, since you have no information on how much of that is new even if you can make a rough estimate on an end target based on his previous books.
  22. Well, creative writing isn't factory line assembly, and its also an industry where reputation is important. If you force your authors to submit something and it turns out to be a dud, it will affect the future sales of potential bestsellers. Money wise, I believe they are paid advances and then royalties on sales. I suppose they are contractually obligated to deliver x amount of books in a series, but I think that the worst they can do is get the advance back and drop the author? __ My memory is a bit hazy at this point and I haven't been following the progress for the latest book, but I don't think GRRM is on the same level as Rothfuss. He's given optimistic timelines sure, but I think he has always been upfront with his struggles, what with the Meereenese knot, conventions, television appearances to help promote the HBO series, other writing obligations and so on. @Garlan the Gallant
  23. I mean, the prologue is just him chatting with Chronicler, with minor glimpses of what's happening in the present. Say, NoTW or WMF was cut into half. Would it be so out of place to repurpose one of those scenes as a prologue? Anyway, my point is, he has no credit left. Reading signs is a waste of time. It is either an official announcement or nothing.
  24. I don't think it tells us anything about his progress. It could be chapters cut from WMF or it could be something recent. As to why he's doing it, maybe it is just an attempt to boost his charity, or he was being being trash talked and turned to the only thing he knows that he has an advantage over his twitch followers so that he can feel smug again. The book will be officially announced if/when it's done. That's the appropriate amount of attention his progress on the book deserves at this point. I'm not going to be bothered with crumbs or teases. Either it is ready or it isn't. It's not worth speculating over.
