1. I'm not putting a corpse's appearance as that vital to the show. I'm not even sure they'd DO any flashback scenes with him. Dude's just lying there. Of course, it could still go to Jeremy. Jon Arryn's Corpse would still garner more respect for Mr. Irons than his turn at playing Profion.
2. That's yet another great idea: George R. R. Martin as Dead Jon Arryn! The man who fostered Ned and Robert - the man whose mysterious last words were the catalyst for so much else. Any Jon Arryn flashbacks might not even need to have him speaking. Just gesturing and looking noble. With a little cleaning up (a trim here or there), I'm sure George can do that.
3. I also like the idea of "Heads. Spikes. Walls." But for the pilot, I would echo Ran and ship George's butt to Morocco - put him in something even FLOOFIER than what Ian McNeice (yet another inspired choice) will be wearing, with heavy eyeshadow and maybe lipstick. Hey, the Free Cities ain't called "free" for nothing. Let his inner fabulous come right out. (If we're intent to get the most GRRM deaths we can, he can be an accidental death at Dany's wedding. "No, wait, I you can HAVE the girl, I was just dancing with her and---ooaaauuugh!") (... Or you could shave him and have him PLAY a Dothraki girl.) (Or if you just want to be nice to the old sod (why??) just make him the Eunuch that announces Illyrio, Viserys, and Daenerys.)
4. I wonder if they have the forethought to cast the two Kingsguard knights that flank King Robert upon his arrival at Winterfell. From the script: A huge man [KING ROBERT] approaches, flanked by knights in snow-white cloaks. From what I recall, they weren't even named in the book, right? Yet until Selmy gets dismissed, we know the Kingsguard serves for life... so just two "random knights" popping up in the pilot and then disappearing the rest of the season (assuming it gets picked up) might be a little odd for the more discerning eyes. Then again, two thick, deep, white cloak hoods could solve that too.
5. Aw, Phoenix, you got my hopes up that we'd had another Dave & Dan sighting. Though if they're busy keeping Game of Thrones rolling, hey, stay away boys! Another possibility is they are both working to help Amanda Peet not get killed when the world ends in 2012.
6. Or as Catelyn, which after further review, I think she'd be even better for. The Dinklage news is fucking fantastic... and even better is the directorial news. I'm a huge fan of The Wire. This is one happy little Yea.
7. I think it's fantastic the producers are already putting their hands forth to the forum as a whole; this can only bode well that they care enough about the fanbase to even look this forum up. My advice to you two gentlemen (as though you need it): do what you think is best for the success of the series. HBO has a fantastic record with regard to storytelling and (especially) spot-on casting. You can't please all of the people all of the time, but if I get multiple years of critically-acclaimed A Game of Thrones, color me one happy little Yea. Aside: Not that I want to jump ahead of an announcement regarding the shooting of a single episode... but I'm curious what will happen with the later seasons if all the books aren't finished by the time they start 5th, 6th, and 7th year production. >.> Yea P.S. Advice for would-be actors and actresses: go out and get something - anything - that would add a credit to your name. I can't think of a single series that employed zero-experience non-union actors in anything remotely regarding a "name" role. Go get an agent and grab a quick commercial or two, if you can. ...At the very least have a head shot.
