    Fate of Olyvar Frey

Let's not overestimate his devotion to Robb Stark. He's just a naive boy who doesn't see the big picture. The concept of a sacred oath is beyond his grasp right now when balanced against the man who was his mentor. The young and the immature overvalue friendship and fail to realize the importance of rules, the law, oaths, and promises. He will realize how right Walder Frey was when he matures. What Robb did to his family was not a minor offense. The red wedding served a dual purpose. To help the Freys integrate themselves back into the good part of Westeros society and protect their vast wealth from any punitive damages for their part in the illegal rebellion. The red wedding and the dismay of the north is a small price to pay.

Did the Red Comet _____ ?

We need to look at the timing. Did the candles start glowing right after Drogo's death? That would make them one of the possible lightbringers.

Did the Red Comet _____ ?

Yes. Perhaps it opened a magic doorway between the worlds of the living and the dead. The ritual was a powerful form of necromancy that pulled the dragons from the stone. Stone is grey. Grey is death. Azor Ahai performed necromancy beneath the trail of the red comet.

    Dead signs

Maybe the First Men are descended from the Ghiscari. Both have a touch of evil in them.

Would a family therapist help the Greyjoys out?

The Freys are not going to disintegrate. They are too many and too powerful. Walder will eventually find the lair of the brotherhood and get rid of those pesky outlaws.

Dyanastic Rule. Khal Drogo and Mance Rayder

It looked like a collusion between Khal Drogo and the Dosh Khaleen to me. The other khals won't like the idea of answering to a superior khal. So who is pushing for this to happen besides Drogo and the crones? The leaders of the Free Cities. The magisters, sealords, and archons look across the seven kingdoms and see it ripe for the picking. An alliance with a united Dothraki people will make the conquest of Westeros rather easy.

“All men must die” just a maxim,a mission statement, or both?

Neither. It's just an observation. People are born, live, and die. Immortality is not an available choice. Even the nutjobs who called themselves the Undying Ones have a finite lifespan. They can prolong themselves beyond the normal lifespan but they will not last forever. The wooden dicks beneath the weirwood trees live longer lives than most people but even they will die. The cult of the faceless men perverted this observation and made themselves killers for hire. It's a sham because they are nothing more than hired killers but it makes them feel better than a freelanced with no principles.
  8. It went down badly. Sansa and Joff might have taken that same road. Which they kind of did in a way. She was an accessory to his poisoning.
  9. A little social climbing for the family. More honor. Higher status. She took after dad. The man who wanted to marry his daughter to a high lord.
  10. Stannis is devoid of compassion. Rhaegar would commit atrocity if he meant to sacrifice an innocent girl to the flames to hatch his dragon egg. But he didn't because Ned seemed to hold him in high regard. Rhaegar didn't even try to use her as a hostage. He had a good bargaining chip and failed to use her. The guy is a poor tactician. If anybody was stabbing Lyanna at the tower of joy it was probably the Sword of the Morning plugging the Daughter of the Night with his blade.
  11. Taken in isolation, this is the Night slaying the Day. I thought that dream came after the phrase "the last dragon" was used. The dream was meant to show her that she is the last dragon. The importance of this cannot be overemphasized because it means Aegon and Jon are not dragons. The armies of ice are the men who fought against her brother turned to wights.

Jon a Fusion of Fire Magic and Ice Magic

He should be. But you know George Martin. He says Gandalf should have stayed dead. But then he resurrects Beric and Catelyn. I would not be at all surprised if he brings Jon back. Jon is the winter/ice/dark side of the battle. From his wolf's color to his surname, it all points to ice/winter/dark. I don't think he's a hybrid at all. The two elements do not mix and cannot exist in the same space at the same time. His personality is a pure amalgam of Lyanna, Brandon, and Ned. I know it is possible for Rhaegar to be his father, but I find that unlikely. Jon is all north. If anybody sired him it is Mance Rayder with Lyanna Stark. Brandon is another suspect because the Old Gods would try to match the Red God and create a Stark + Stark line.
  13. When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. All of these dudes were playing the game. It all started with Robert and Rickard conspiring against their king. They were going to kill Aerys.
  14. The ward called dibs on Sansa but Cat the ambitious would do what she can to break it off and encourage Sansa's interest in Joffrey. Sansa is like to change her tune and drop the poor ward because Joffrey is a better prospect in her eyes.

    Who Should Have Married Who?

The old guard married who they married for reasons. Some turned out good but mostly they were bad. Ned and Cat were ok as a couple. Rhaegar and Ellia were ok until he embarrassed her at Harrenhal. That was a chess game between fire and ice. Rhaegar was cock blocking Robert for political reasons. So maybe he screwed Lyanna later and produced a bastard. That accomplishes the same thing. Even better because a lady having a bastard drops down her perceived value. Brandon and Cat would never work out. His womanizing ways would not be welcome. I can't understand any woman being happy with Brandon. Barbrey romanticized the night she lost her hymen but she should actually give it some thought. Brandon would never be loyal and she would be miserable.

Why did nobody try to curb Joffrey?

People normally do not try to curb someone above them on the food chain. Abuse of power is expected to be quite common in those days. A lot of lords abuse their common folk. The nobles believe in the right to rule over others by virtue of their bloodline. They believed Joffrey is the son of the old usurper king. So he has some legal ground to stand on to claim the right to rule.
  17. It wasn't the right time. It's Ned's children who are the important generation for the side of Ice. Ned's children and his bastard son are the ones chosen to champion Ice and winter. Rhaegar thought he was the promised prince but it was too soon. His own prejudice got in the way and got him thinking that way. His little sister is the promised one on the side of Fire and spring.

Was Robb more Tully or Stark?

Robb was raised in the culture of the north. He is more northern in personality. His looks is that of a Tully because he does not share Jon and Arya's head shape. He doesn't look like an ironing board on its end but he is a Stark at heart. Lyanna is an oathbreaker. Robb is an oathbreaker. Jon is an oathbreaker. There is a pattern.

Jon will get wightified, a theory by Lothar Frey

    You guys
  20. Lord Walder Frey trusted Robb Stark to keep his word and honor his oath. It never occurred to the nobleman that Robb Stark would break his oath. Robb gave his oath to marry a Frey and that should have been enough. But the slimeball decided to do what he wanted instead of what he promised.
  21. Suicide goes up when times are bad. The examples of people in the north when the old go out to freeze themselves is brutal. The customers of the House of Black & White give up on life and take the way out.

    Why do people love Dany?

Jorah was a cynical man until he met Daenerys. He found someone bigger and greater than himself to believe in so he no longer wallows in his own misery.

    The were-wood hypothesis

You mean something akin to man tree? It's not far off base. People who die pass their spirit to the trees. They are made of men. White for the bones and red leaves for the blood. They feed on human blood.

    Samwell and euron

Euron has access to magic. Samwell will have access to knowledge. Magic vs. Science? Not exactly but Samwell can be useful if the Hightowers have to battle Euron. He might figure out how to make his own version of wildfire and use it to light the ironborn ships.

Why did George give daenerys everything

Well done. This is not the only interview where the topic was brought up. I will post a link if I should happen to come across the other interview.
