I think we now reached a point with the article creation for non-book characters where it should definitely stop. Do we really want to have pages for all the MUSH characters? I see the point of creating pages for show-only things (although I don't get the countless pages for the characters from the lineage book when even the show runners wouldn't consider them show-canon), but @Ran himself had said that there shouldn't be articles for the Game of Thrones Telltale characters. So I would like to discuss three points:

    1. MUSH content. Should be removed in my opinion. Just a bunch of names with no meaning to anyone except the players.

    2. Telltale content. I have no opinion there.

    3. Characters from the GoT lineage book. Should be removed in my opinion. Just a bunch of names who aren't even considered show-canon.

Agreed, MUSH character stuff needs to go. We are not going to confirm which characters or events are from GRRM in general. The wiki is for fully canon material, i.e. written, co-written, or otherwise directly overseen by George where he confirms that he has overseen things. He did not give approvals for individual props (like that lineage book from GoT) and we know explicitly he did not have any direct involvement in the Telltale game.

@Vaith Please remove the entries, or help others do it, when you've a chance.

I have removed the pages for the MUSH.

Was not sure about the Telltale articles, but I am fine with them going if that's the decision. I saw that the wiki had articles on some but not all, so thought it would be in line with things to add more. If all Telltale material is to go, then https://ttgot.fandom.com/wiki/Telltale's_Game_Of_Thrones_Wiki could be linked on the main page about the Telltale game, and/or on the "Derived works" article.

If there is a rule of some kind of including characters only directly cast or mentioned, that's also fine I think.

https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Category:Characters_from_A_Song_of_Ice_and_Fire_Roleplaying was also added recently to cover an adapted work, so that may also have to be removed depending on what people think.

  2. On polygamy: yes, I consider it the most likely option as Lyanna and Rhaegar's marital status. However, I also agree that it was something that was not practised by even Targaryens at that point.

Would Rhaegar care about that, though? Probably not, he was fixated enough on prophecy that he didn't care about Elia's health. And given that Tyrion could find a drunken septon to marry him and Tysha, someone out there is going to marry Rhaegar and Lyanna without asking any further questions.

This makes Jon an ambiguous heir. Was the marriage valid? Depends who you ask: people will say yes if someone wants to make that claim by force, and no if someone else is actively trying to dispute that claim. It would mean there is no one "true heir", which I think jives with Martin's statements that are critical of some true lost heir archetype, and feeds into the "power resides where men believe it resides" concept.

Thanks for starting v. 167 @Ygrain. May I suggest that we add something like this to the FAQ?

I find it to be a common talking point against R+L=J that annoyingly persists because it's easily shown to be wrong, yet some loud but misinformed fan channels keep pushing it.

I've never understood the claim that "not remembering" in that context means "not thinking" at all.

Even if Rhaegar wasn't the biological father of his nephew/adopted son, I'd find it pretty hard to believe that the guy who, without a doubt, kidnapped your sister shortly before her death would never ever cross your mind. Or the dead crown prince who was a pretty big player in the war.

All in all it is a pretty trivial quote that has been milked to death so that naysayers can use it to represent their own theories.

    Other question : Sylva

, the heir of Symon Santagar, was married to lord Eldon Estermont, from the Stormlands. Does it means that if they would have a child together, all titles and lands of the house Santagar will move to a house Estermont and, therefore, to the Stormlands?

Lord Estermont seems to already have many male heirs from previous marriage(s). It is highly unlikely that the Lord of Estermont would also become Knight of Spottswood if Eldon and Sylva have children. It is probable that the children may be considered Santagars.

Thank you for the answer. I seriously never thought about it. Now I curious how they decide who will give up her/his claim. Ryon Allyrion never mentioned having any siblings and could as well be the only child. On the other hand, Ynys brother Cletus Yronwood has died during the journey with Quentyn Martell, and little Gwyneth can and likely is a secret bastard, if we take into consideration that she is the only in her family of stony dornishmans, who have a very sandy dornish looks. Hey, maybe even Ryon Allyrion is her real father, who already fathered a bastard - Daemon. Well, it's my small speculation. Anyway, house Yronwood is much more powerful than house Allyrion, so maybe it's that's how they decide? And what about second question about Sylva?

We don't know who Anders Yronwood's wife is, she may be from a house where dark hair is common. So it feels somewhat baseless to say she is illegitimate simply based off her features.

If Delonne Allyrion has no other children, then it makes sense that she would want her son's children to be considered Allyrion. While, at the time of Ynys's marriage, she had other siblings that could take up Yronwood.

The World of Ice & Fire app lists Gwyneth as heir to Yronwood in the wake of Cletus's death, so it is likely that Ynys was in fact disinherited as a result of her marriage into House Allyrion, rather than the Yronwoods following male-preference succession.

  5. Ronnel Penrose is listed as Lord of Parchments, but I do not see any reference to that in The World of Ice & Fire.

We cannot assume he is just because he married a princess (in fact, given Elaena's soiled state and her abrupt first marriage, a marriage to a non-lord might even make sense...)

All the information we have is that Elaena married Daeron II's master of coin (from the Baelor I section) and his name was Ronnel Penrose (from the family trees). I do not see any mention of a lordship.

Edit: Now I do see the mention of him being a "good and noble lord", although lord does not necessarily mean lord of his house depending on the context, and small council members may be considered honorary lords, like Varys.

  6. I am going through categories at the moment, and I am wondering if the members of the Rainbow Guard should have Category:Members of the Kingsguard.

Loras is already in Category:Lords Commander of the Kingsguard, so the wiki already sees the Rainbow Guard as an equivalent to the Kingsguard, and members of claimant Kingsguard such as Glendon Goode and Rolly Duckfield are in Category:Members of the Kingsguard.

So it would be right to add Brienne, Robar Royce, Parmen Crane, etc. to Category:Members of the Kingsguard? Just asking here before I do add it to their pages. :)

It wouldn't make sense to include any of these since they didn't became widespread worldwide until after the middle ages, which twoiaf is based on. So no coffee, tea, chocolate, etc. Maybe GRRM will conjure up another analog for one of them.

While all your examples are true -- there's no coffee, tea, chocolate, tomatoes, potatoes, etc., there's not a blanket absence of "New World" crops. Pumpkins, for example, definitely exist, and I am pretty sure maize does as well.

In case of a Queen on the IT , will her title be Lady of the seven kingdoms?

From examples in the history of Westeros, it varies. Rhaenyra Targaryen claimed the title of "Lady of the Seven Kingdoms," but according to the ADWD Appendix, Dany's full title is:

    Quote

DAENERYS TARGARYEN, the First of Her Name, Queen of Meereen, Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, Protector of the Realm, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, called DAENERYS STORMBORN, the UNBURNT, MOTHER OF DRAGONS,

So it really varies. I am guessing it could be seen as a feudal title similar to how a female ruler of Ironoaks is "Lady of Ironoaks," not "Lord of Ironoaks," but there are also some offices that have gender neutral lords -- e.g. Alyse Ladybright, who is Lord Treasurer of Sunspear, not Lady Treasurer of Sunspear.

  8. I am not sure if there is a TWOIAF mistake thread still going, but I am going to raise a possible error here:

I was going to add Munkun healing Baelor after he collapsed in 171 AC, but then I realised that there was another Grand Maester in 153 - Alford, who told Naerys that childbirth would be dangerous after the birth of the future Daeron II.

Is either Munkun or Alford (or both) a mistake? I highly doubt that a Grand Maester could be removed and then re-installed. Plus, 171 does seem a little late for Munkun unless he was rather young during the Dance or lived to a rather old age.

Do you pronounce Yronwood as "Ironwood" or "Ronwood," (like a silent y)?

GRRM loves his ‘y’ sounds, but I don’t think of them differently than  ‘i’s a lot of the time.

I think Swyft should be pronounced ‘swift’, and Redwyne ‘red wine’, so Yronwood is probably ‘ironwood.’

Ynys Yronwood is so much less confusing as a name when it’s Inis Ironwood, not Eenees Eeronwood.

But with all things ASOIAF, there is no real definitive pronunciation of many names as per GRRM.

Maybe somewhere else, The World Book.  It seemed rather obscure.  No matter, just curious.

I think it's one of those mysteries about Valyria, alas. I can't find anything on that in the Valyria section of The World of Ice and Fire. Conceptually, you could theorise some rather cool ceremonies from that motif. :)

Is it just coincidence that Houses Tully and Tarly names are so seemingly similar? Some ancient common ancestor?

Based on what we know about the founding of these houses, it probably is a councidence.

House Tarly is said to be founded by the twin brothers Herndon of the Horn and Harlon the Hunter, legendary sons of Garth Greenhand.

House Tully does not against a mention until the lords who fought under the Mudds and then bent the knee to the Andal warlord Armistead Vance, becoming Lords of Riverrun.

Are there any areas outside of Westeros ruled by a king, besides Astapor?

While these aren't kings, per se, there are some other true hereditary monarchies, such as:

The many principalities of the Summer Islands. Like Dorne, they seem to use the title "Prince(ss)" for all rulers, even for Xanda and Chatana Qo who briefly unified all of the isles.

    The Emperors of Yi Ti.

And also the occasional Kings of the Stepstones, who are pirate kings. ;)

Explains the “drift” bit, yeah, was mostly focusing on the “mark” though.

Do the place name suffixes -hal (Hammerhal, Harrenhal) and -mark (Ashemark, Driftmark) have any meaning?

Maybe -hal is a variant of -hall, so Hammerhal meanings Hammer's hall, since House Cordwayner rose from shoemakers, and built a hall for display their tools.

The name origin story of Driftmark makes me wonder if -mark and Ashe- have any meanings.

I am pretty sure we are supposed to think -hal is Hall, just like Barrowton is Barrow-Town, a town with barrows.

In English, -mark denotes a border. Driftmark was sort of a border between the Valyrian Freehold and Westeros, so that makes sense. Ashemark is probably just ash + mark (border). While it's quite far into the westerlands, in earlier days the river kings claimed hilly regions nearby, so they'd probably have to defend the border quite a lot. And since the sigil of House Marbrand is a burning tree, there are probably regular ashes in the region from regular forest fires, for example.

And how could Ser Jaime of the Kingsguard inherit the Wardenship of the West? :P

To me, this seems an instance of Early Installment Weirdness from A Game of Thrones - i.e., something that seems strange with later information that comes to fruition.

Still, it seems reasonable to not let a child be Warden. The Warden titles signify someone is supposed to protect the region martially, and in AFFC:

    Spoiler

Cersei, as Lady of Casterly Rock, names her cousin Ser Daven as Warden of the West, but this does not mean he is Lord of Casterly Rock or anything like that.

So, if a female ruler may name someone else Warden, it seems likely that a child may not be given a title like that - it could go to the closest male relative, and failing that (since the poor/Gulltown branches only exist for the Arryns) a capable vassal like Lord Royce.

Still, the fuss over the Warden title largely seems odd in retrospect, since I don't think anyone would expect Sweetrobin to mount a defence against an Essosi invasion - the title has really become a ceremonial Arryn title. And it makes a lot less sense for Jaime to be considered for the title, unless Robert is going to appoint him to be in the Vale doing something (certainly he wouldn't appoint him to guard the unacknowledged Mya Stone...)

Hi, I started to edit some page on the Wiki for the first time today and I saw afterward that people changed it back to what it was before my edit. I'm wondering why ?

For Example, @Vaith you deleted the family tree I added to Medrick Manderly. Can I know why ? Was my edit unnecessary ?
Thanks for the clarification. Good day to all.

I do not remember deleting this family tree, Thomaerys. Looking at the history, I made an edit a few weeks ago (Jan 8) to probably change the death date or location or something like that, and the most recent edits have been yours.

Hi everyone, some days ago I wrote this topic:

in order to get a wiki account. I don't know if I should have done in another way or I should have written it here. Can you help me please?

Hi cristina1996, did you post in this subforum? https://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php?/forum/121-wiki-account-registration/ (I believe regular users cannot see posts there, only staff)

I think it depends on how long it takes for the staff to see it and make an account for you. Then I think you should get an email (on the address you used to sign up for A Forum of Ice and Fire) giving you a temporary password. Hope this helps! :)

The following need to be added to the pages listing the Green/Black supporters:

The Triarchy and Sharako Lohar under foreign allies of the Greens

Ser Roger Corne needs to be moved to the Crownlands section and Lord Owain Bourney added there as well (or under the defected to the Greens section perhaps?) and Moslander of Yore, Ser Garrick Hall of Middleton, and Ser Merrell the Bold to the Black Crownlanders section

Ser Amos Bracken and Ser Raylon Rivers to the Green Riverlands section and Ser Harry Penny, Ser Oswald Wode, Lord Samwell Blackwood, and Lord Roote to the Black Riverlands section

Lord Humfrey Bracken needs to be added to the section listing defectors to the Blacks

Ser Adrian Tarbeck needs to be added to the Green Westermen section

Ser Byron should perhaps be included as both a Black and a Green given the contradictory sources

Given that the knights of Duskendale betray Borros during the Muddy Mess maybe they should be listed under the "defected to the blacks/greens" section along with the Rosbys, Stokeworths, and whatever other houses Aegon II punished upon his restoration?

Finally, the following battles might deserve their own pages despite the scant amount of detail:

The battle three days after the Battle of Acorn Hall  wherein Ser Harry Penny and Ser Adrian Tarbeck slew each other, with the Westermen killing hundreds during the pursuit (if I recall the passage correctly)

The short, sharp battle battle on the shores of the Godseye wherein Ser Criston's vanguard defeated Ser Oswald Wode, Lord Darry, and Lord Roote of Lord Harroway's Town whilst marching on Harrenhal

The victories at Old Oak, Goldengrove, and the Shield Isles under Ormund Hightower and Prince Daeron, wherein all the above were forced to submit to the Greens

Implemented all of these, thanks. I haven't added the battles yet though, as I'm relatively new and do not really want to add a battle without a proper name in the text.

The "only son" comes from the family tree in The World of Ice and Fire

I have fixed this; he is now the eldest son. The The World of Ice and Fire trees do contradict stuff in F&B and the main novels, for instance, Rhaella being called Rhalla, Daenerys daughter of Jaehaerys being a son called Aeryn, Rhaena's marriage to Androw Farman, Rhae and Daella's marriages and children mentioned by Aemon, and Cersei not being listed as a ruling lady of Casterly Rock (in my version at least)

  19. Hey all :D

I am Vaith, someone who's had a lot of time on their hands to go through F&B and create pages for the new characters, locations, houses, etc. That will probably be my main focus, though I have already began to make little edits to pages concerning the main novels too, and have made some new categories etc. I have some experience in wiki-editing (mostly over at the Doctor Who wiki) and am already fairly confident about how stuff works.

Nice to meet all of you :D

  20. I would definitely second an effort to try and re-open some of the closed characters, as well as trying to schedule more regular +events in a little while: I have mostly seen that be used for big events rather than anything else and would certainly do my best to submit more "slice-of-life"/networking events: a dance in the queen's ballroom, an open salon, giving patronage to a famous weaver or musician (about how wonderful our characters are), and maybe some player run tournaments as that's always a pull for activity. Plus some rather run of the mill events like bowls or a darts contest in the Three Hills Inn, even though I know casual stuff can be boring to some.

Have no objections with Durance's proposals either and they certainly seem rather fun to get involved in. That Greenblood plot sounds very fun too and could work when Rayne and I hammer out something to do with trade with Vaith.

In terms of another suggestion, I suppose this would be a little more ambitious, but I was going through I think an in-game AMA log for TWOIAF, and Bal mentioned a plot about a "reverse Marco Polo" at some point i.e. a YiTish scholar coming to court to chronicle the tales of the barbarians out west. Could be a fun element while kickstarting the social scene at court, so that people could explore their prejudices, interests in lands afar, and trying to put on a good show for this envoy who might tell his people of the barbarous westerners with their zealous king, royal incest and some likely hilarious interpretations of our characters.

  21. Another idea for a rather big martial plot could be having a private war take place. The most obvious candidate is Meadows, as Lord Robett still does not have an heir named in the family tree, and there's Elyse and Rymella as PCs from that house.

It could be a pretty fun event, similar to the Blackwood/Bracken private war in Riverrun that went down some years ago. The situation is quite complicated with several possible candidates who might be backed depending on who the crown/Highgarden supports, what was in Robett's will, familial connections, and succession law. Of course there'd be an onus on those from that house, so it's only one suggestion :D I hear there are rumours that the Masseys could have something similar on their hands one day, if the population dares go back to Stonedance...

As for recruiting, perhaps it would be possible for players to submit chargens for NPCs? Having a quick DB search, there are only 12 available pre-made men in KL between the most popular ages of 15-25; 5 for women, and most are leaning towards the older end. It could also help if a house has a certain idea in mind for one of their members; instead of impinging on a potential CGer, they could go ahead and submit a sheet for the character in question, and would perhaps increase the chances of that character getting recruited to the house.
