  1. First off, they chose a bad spot to land; they came ashore in hostile territory where it would be harder to muster support and where their big naval opposition already was. Would have been safer to start out in friendly territory like Dorne or at Oldtown since Euron was already on the other side of Westeros (King's Landing); Olenna could raise her banners from Oldtown. Oh, and symbolism since Aegon the Conqueror was crowned in Oldtown; since Daenerys is projecting the image of being Aegon come again (minus two dragon riders), that should enhance her mystique. Maybe meld in a plot with Sam since he's there, he could inform them of White Walkers (theoretically). Move eastward to Highgarden and Dorne If they start at Sunspear, Daenerys and Ellaria can promise revenge on the Lannisters. They march to Highgarden, Olenna raises banners; remember her family was a naval power and Mace's wife was a Hightower. Phase 3: March up to Riverlands and bread and circuses; show Daenerys' benevolence, promote stability and justice, punish the wicked, cut Cersei off from the Westerlands, don't engage Euron's fleet , yada, yada, yada. Of course I don't know how Daenerys should tackle the Vale and the North.
  2. Burn Gorman (Karl Tanner) appears in Enola Holmes as Linthorn, an assassin.
  3. Harry's already shown an unpleasant attitude towards his betrothal to "Alayne" and Sansa is wary of him because he's handsome (thanks to her experiences around Joffrey). The relationship is already on the wrong foot from the get-go. Harry's also not afraid to speak about his bastard's mother in an insulting manner so his jerkishness is not limited to the betrothal; unless GRRM pulls a kind act or a few out of a hat, I'm looking at this relationship with a very jaundiced eye.
  4. You mean Gared; Will got strangled by wight!Waymar while Gared lost his head to Ned. In the books anyway.
  5. If she eloped, she was willingly entering into an affair with a married man after she had complained about Robert's philandering nature.
  6. So everybody assumed Rhaegar had sex with Lyanna?
  7. Rhaegar was born in 259 AC, and was KIA in 283 AC. Rickard and Brandon Stark were put to death in 282 AC, so if Rhaegar and Lyanna disappeared weeks before that time, Rhaegar would be 22 or 23 depending on when his nameday is in the year (GRRM isn't great with these).
  8. So on the question of whether or not Rhaegar Targaryen kidnapped or eloped with Lyanna Stark: if Lyanna's main problem with her betrothed, Robert Baratheon, was his cheating on her (he's already sired an illegitimate daughter by the time she was betrothed), why would she decide to elope with a married man? Hypocrisy much?
  9. That’ll be hard to do, when it’s established in dialogue.
  10. There’s also another problem: the family trees were trimmed so to speak in the show so that Aerion Brightflame was Maester Aemon’s only elder brother. Daeron the Drunk has a pivotal role, how will they fit Daeron back into the family tree?
  11. Hopper was already in Game of Thrones as the second Dickon Tarly. It would be a bit weird to cast him again.
  12. For me, there are a number of problems in the books, like gross sex scenes, plot contrivance, general cynicism, but the show made them much worse. Plot Contrivance. With how much GRRM complains about the ease that Aragorn does things, he makes a number of things happen because he wanted them to: Ramsay in Book 2. Like Euron in Seasons 7 and 8, he's mainly a plot device; In his case, for Theon to get captured and make Bran, Rickon, Meera, Jojen, Hodor, and the direwolves flee Winterfell, Rodrik Cassel doesn't understand how there's a Bolton army coming around if he supposedly killed the Bolton in the North and his force is slaughtered to a man. He essentially takes down the Northern power base in a matter of weeks. Robb and the Blackfish leaving Edmure out of the master plan. Edmure gallivants off on his own with thousands of men and fights a battle, not knowing that the idea was to allow Tywin to chase Robb into a trap; instead, Tywin gets enough breathing room to receive word of Stannis attacking King's Landing and gets back in time to relieve Tyrion and stop Stannis from taking the city. Jon Snow never once brings up the fact that the White Walkers make wights and therefore it would be pragmatic to try to save the wildlings. Wildlings are easier to negotiate with than wights. Gross and degrading sex scenes. The show actually toned down Jaime's sex scene with Cersei (she's on her period in the books), Cersei refers to Taena Merryweather's privates as a "Myrish swamp", while Sam's penis is described as a "fat pink mast". There's also Daenerys and Jeyne Poole's Stockholm Syndrome. Cynicism. A Song of Ice and Fire is generally pessimistic about the human condition, with the main protagonists (the Starks) doing a number of idiotic things because they think it's the right thing to do and getting killed or disgraced (Ned telling Cersei to leave, Robb marrying Jeyne Westerling, Catelyn's decisions to capture Tyrion and free Jaime) while the survivors become progressively darker and nastier (Bran robbing Hodor of his free will, Arya becoming a Faceless Man, Sansa being under Littlefinger's tutelage) with others doing horrible things (Tyrion raping a prostitute) and character development setting more up for a fall (Jaime is being led into a trap by Brienne and Lady Stoneheart is not inclined to be forgiving towards him). Glorification of psychopaths. Ramsay and Littlefinger have come out the victor in nearly everything they've done, rising higher and higher as the book series has gone on. And all the while everyone ignores the threat imposed by the White Walkers and the wights, including those who are tasked with defending against them.
  13. If that were the case there wouldn't be R+L=J.
  14. Question about Lancel Lannister: it's mentioned that he shows little interest in his new wife Amerei Frey, due to his newfound piety and her licentious reputation. However, is it also because she has a passing resemblance to Cersei (blonde hair, buxom figure), whom Lancel has committed many of his sins with?
  15. GRRM is certainly a fan of Richard III, there are four characters based off of him in the books.
  16. So in ADWD, it’s mentioned that there are six claimants to the Rosby seat after Lord Gyles dies in AFFC. Is it possible that four of those claimants are Perwyn, Willamen (Benfrey was killed at the Red Wedding), Olyvar, and Roslin Frey since their mother was a Rosby?
  17. Bronn’s gotten what he’s wanted: money, moving up socially. And for the next 16 years until Tyrion Tanner comes of age he should be set up nicely as Lord Protector of Stokeworth.
  18. New one: Daenerys has anorexia; GRRM's known for his detailed descriptions of food, while Daenerys often loses her appetite and only eats a bit of fruit whenever she eats in her chapters.
  19. Stephen Dillane (Stannis) and Breneck O'Connor (Olly) are starring in the Amazon Prime adapatation of Alex Rider. Dillane plays Alan Blunt and Olly is Tom Harris.
  20. I got one: why did Visenya assist Maegor in usurping the crown and allow him to kill Aegon? She’s no better than Cersei.
  21. Not great. Nothing lined up for this year, and the last thing she’s done is Last Christmas.
  22. Well, in his case his disappointment over Barristan’s fate was a sign of things to come.
