  1. It would definitely save time. Like you said it would be interesting to see if they'd work together to that extent. I guess sky in uk has embraced Netflix, iPlayer etc but they still shun Amazon prime
  2. Still enjoying the X-books although i realise not much has actually happened yet it's more we are being bombarded by ideas and world building. I'm not sure i buy the idea that Xavier and magneto have known about Moira all along. It makes the countless times they've been at odds somewhat idiotic even if the implication was that Magneto said he'd keep Xavier on point if he felt he was wavering. I'm yet to be convinced why it's taken Xavier until now to enact the krakoa plan. I feel it would make more sense if moira had revealed her memories to xavier and magneto at x1 rather than x0. I'm intrigued at the notion of apocalypse as an ally. I guess Hickman likes the character as east of west has version(s) of him. Cyclops had a nice badass scene.

  4. I usually google "film/tv show streaming UK" and there's usually a top hit saying if and where it is available.
  5. Maybe crashing from the success of "the boys". It seems it's already when of their watched shows. Let's see if I get the end of Turn. If I do customer services or their AI is watching us I think this is the main issue with Amazon and customers indifference. A lot of us have prime mainly for the delivery service and see the TV and film content as a bonus. As such I wouldn't be willing to ditch the delivery in order to make a point about the streaming service. I guess if the price goes up or they separate the two things (the latter wouldn't surprise me) then I'd maybe make a point of switching off. If Netflix pulled half the shit Amazon has I'd switch off but I'm not relying on netflix for free same day deliveries.
  6. The technarchy is new mutants and the phalanx came out of a gen x and uncanny X-Men story. I think they were the villains in the second annihilation cosmic event.
  7. I've noticed a similar Amazon trick. I was finally getting around to catching up on hell on wheels and noticed most of it isn't free any more. Final season has first two episodes on prime while you have to pay for individual episodes for the end of the show. So if i hadn't checked this I'd wind up having to pay £2-2.50 for the remaining 5 episodes! How on earth can they have the rights for 2 episodes and not the last 5??? I need to check if this is a one off or whether it's happening with other non Amazon originals. AMC shows that are complete might be most likely candidates.
  8. The artwork is supposed to impressive on that title, it might be one for me to check when there's a trade's worth.
  9. I'd toy with Aaron's work but avengers seems so convoluted and tied into events i wouldn't know where to start and what order. If the x-books can maintain the momentum and quality of hox/pox that'll occupy my wallet. We're lucky immortal hulk has been left untampered. Hopefully these styles of book will become more frequent if they continue to be the ones gaining an audience rather than dwindling after each renumbering.
  10. It was nice of bleeding cool to post pretty much the whole issue (I'm surprised Marvel lets them do this) so I've read up on the key aspects. It's a nice retcon with the potential to roll various alternate futures into Moira timelines. I do need to buy the issue so that i can have a closer look at the timelines chart. Serious burn with AvX being dubbed "the lost decade". That's a bit on the nose. And once again has me wondering whether the X-men exist in regular marvel continuity anymore. We really need evidence of other Marvel books referencing Krakoa as the FF appearing doesn't in the X-books doesn't count. Although to be honest I'd be perfectly fine with the X-men being their own thing. I'm sure there's a very good reason we don't yet know. I still think that what we are seeing in POX is an alternate future. What if she tried the Krakoa approach in life six and it lead to the disaster we are seeing in POX? It went so wrong that she spent the next couple of lives trying something very different. But now, on life ten she's thinking attempt number 6 was the best except for that one point that went wrong? So what we are seeing in HOX is life 6 and 10 playing out together but in HOX#6 we see Moira introduce a change that splits 6 and 10 apart. POX ends up being a series showing us how life 6 played out and the wide-line Hickman relaunch is the uncharted ground of life 10. That'd be a sweet set up. I wonder how long Hickman has been developing and planning this series? It feels like something he's been working on for years. With this book and Immortal Hulk I'm starting to wonder whether I should poke my nose into more Marvel titles. The events and cost still throw me off the most but it's reassurring to know there is some quality out there too.
  11. I feel like Amazon have pushed the channel thing far too soon. As far as I'm aware they are still a much smaller service than Netflix so I'd think they'd be better having all those channels as part of prime to make it more of a catch? Then again I know people who have prime solely for the delivery and don't watch shows so maybe it's not amazon's goal to have people paying just for the TV? I wouldn't be surprised if LOTR and possibly wheel of time are thrown onto a premium "channel" just to screw people out of some more cash. It'll be interesting to see if a firm can buy bulk subscriptions from Netflix, Amazon and Hulu/Disney+ and sell on at discount to customers. I imagine the streaming networks would be reluctant but maybe if it was an annual membership they'd consider it. I also agree with you that currently there's no need to find content via 2nd party streaming/torrent sites at the current price/coverage but as the number of channels increase and the content becomes more disparate the temptation of free alternatives rears its head.
  12. The bundles are back... I'm curious as to how this shakes out in the UK. There isn't a hulu service and their content is generally spread over Amazon prime, channel 4 and sky. Disney owns sky so I'm hoping hulu content gets rolled into that service. I also wonder how long the skyatlantic and HBO partnership will continue post Disney buy-out? I suspect until HBO decides to launch HBO go in UK they are more than happy with people in the UK knowing skyatlantic is where you get their content. Regarding bundles it's only a matter of time before Amazon does it. In the UK, at least, there's already a bunch of separate subscription "channels" eg starz!, Funimation, shudder, etc. All at £6 a month. Now Disney are doing streaming bundles, maybe Amazon will take the plunge with a £20-25 a month for everything? They could even go as low as £10-15 a month because it's all content that used to fall under the prime banner 2 years ago so they get £2 a month extra for nothing. It's a con and clearly going back to the days where it's no longer viable to purchase one "channel" but also inevitable. It probably requires Netflix to hold out with it's one subscription gets you everything so that people do have alternative models to support.
  13. That was one of the better elements over last decade having bishop and cable at odds to protect their futures. A battle between 10, 100 and 1000 settings could be interesting and head scratching.
  14. I think that's the case but until other marvel books confirm Hickman's changes we don't know for certain what he's told to change. For example it could be he was set on a course that lead to everything as we know it and beyond - basically what we are seeing now. Or "moira" sets him on a course that tries to have humans and mutants live in harmony and everything we are seeing now is a future that has been prevented and the two series are actually "what ifs". It does raise the question of who Moira is. Like you say if the goal is to set Xavier on a path that results in the extinction of mutants it seems more likely to be Nimrod meddling (he can time travel). I feel like some kind of time travel will be at play as Hickman seems to be drawing on a lot of classic x-men stories and remixing them. DOFP is definitely one to riff off.
  15. POX definitely feels like it might work better as a binge to me. It reminded me a bit of "east of west" in structure but with different eras as opposed to different factions where an issue can feel like a series of snapshots. I can see how some are complaining about the info dumps. I think they'd work better as an appendice as the story was fragmented enough without text pages that took as long to read/digest as 6 pages of comic. As for the opening scene was the implication Moira knew about the future? Or was time travel at play? I also liked the new versions of Nimrod and the whole man-machine alliance. Nimrod was thst weird mixture of super intelligent but also very child-like. Still the most interesting X-men comics in a long time.
  16. Hickman will get bonus points from me if he addresses a long standing issue for me on how the general public has always been ok with super powered humans such as the Fantastic Four whose powers aren't derived from technology (eg Iron Man) yet if you are a mutant it's a problem. Surely there'd be a section of society (conspiracy theorists) that thinks the FF, Captain America, Thor, etc are all mutants and it's just a lie they got their powers from serums, cosmic rays and magic hammers. By the same token mutants are being very hypocritical if Spider-man, Captain America and the FF aren't allowed to be part of their community simply because they weren't born with powers. Is Krakoa itself really a mutant in terms of being homo-superior unless there's been a retcon stating the island was originally a human/homo superior - I thought it was created by nuclear testing and a hivemind of plant and animal life. Although checking the wiki for krakoa it's interesting that it originally sent Cyclops out to gather other mutants to it and use them as food sources. Maybe Hickman will include some kind of climate-change Gaia story where everything we are seeing is Krakoa's way of saving the planet, possibly by becoming the planet. EDIT: I like the thread title of phase 14. I dread to think what phase the comics would be in. It feels like 14 would only count for 6 years with the regularity of events and renumbering of series.
  17. I think powers of x will give us a better idea of how things will unfold. It may be a century of Xavier's idea having ultimately worked. I'm with you in that I'm hoping it's not post apocalyptic but a completely different type of world. I vaguely recall Morrison showing us the future for a couple of issues in his run too. But I'm curious as to whether they will also allow non mutants into their community later on eg superheroes or regular humans. Religion seems to be an aspect here so there often is a phase where a budding religion goes from being an exclusive club to an open arms one. And i can't help but think that Franklin Richards is going to have a huge role as the sole human-affiliated omega mutant. It's clear from Cyclops that the krakoa nation want him in their fold.
  18. Apocalypse is a tricky one unless he's willing to overlook "survival of the fittest" wrt to mutants if they are displacing human kind. Still feels like Xavier/Krakoa are altering people's minds
  19. I think with telepaths i tend to think if jean is one, surely Xavier and possibly white Queen would be too? Unless jean and quire are demonstrably more powerful than Emma and Xavier. I agree Nate/cable(minus techno-organic virus) should be up there but maybe their strength is in creating alternate dimensions and telekinesis rather than telepathy. His list of omega mutants was a nice tease though. Braddock could be interesting in Hickman's hands. I noticed black tom cassidy is a member of one of the teams coming out later in the year. Given his power he seems a sensible choice for working with a living island which I'm guessing involves a lot of plant life. But he could be helping krakoa rather than being a cancer.
  20. I'm curious as to how he will curate a line of comics. Does he have them working off a cheat-sheet as he seems to be a bit of an architect/planner or does he just give them something he's got an idea for but is happy to let them run with it. Writers like Bendis and Snyder are well-known for having a group of writers they have a good working relationship with. Ellis did a similar thing with the X-books 20 years ago and it's what I'm hoping will be the case. Still intrigued with the "Summers and Wolverine" book that Hickman will do and I'll probably read "new mutants" if Hickman is regular writer.
  21. The series has already succeeded in getting us to discuss/speculate on plots. I liked the FF appearing and suspect the avengers will too. He's a bit like Bendis in the sense he keeps his own continuity eg that was his FF that appeared. EDIT What did people think of the definition of Omega level mutants? At first it made sense to me with his Magneto vs Forge example but then I got a bit wobbly at all the telepaths being listed. There seemed to be an awful lot of them for them all to be Omega level. Then again I guess by definition there's just a lot of telepaths whose upper limits can't be measured. If you also conclude that anyone with telepathy is no longer human then it's hard for telepathy to be surpassed by humans.
  22. I think it's no coincidence at all that this is the first X-men relaunch since Disney acquired Fox and as such there's no conflict of interest in trying to make the X-books into potentially their biggest sellers again. First issue for me was very "Hickman" with infographics and juggling multiple players and angles. It's a great use of krakoa and while the pills and teleporting are all bolt-ons to krakoa's powers, krakoa has a less than detailed past so it's ok. Has Krakoa ever been shown to have a personality? This seems like the time to investigate given its (does krakoa have a gender?) prominence in the plot. After seeing the pods in the first issue I'm wondering whether Xavier is actually being controlled by Krakoa and this is the island taking over the world using mutants as its means of interacting with the world. I agree with others in that this feels like the biggest shift since Morrison and that this feels more like a sequel than anything in between. Particularly now that they've brought back mutants displacing humans again. The crazy pendulum of mutant populations millions to 100 back to huge numbers again. I'm glad they've ignored recent stories for my own accessibility but i can see how regular readers and of marvel continuity in General must be angered. I'm fine with this being a run that will be ignored once finished as long as hickman is allowed to finish the story first. Edit: also curious about POX being set 100 years in future. This explains the weird mixing of powers as the characters may be 2nd/3rd generation and could have characters as grandparents who we are familiar with.
  23. Yeah - paper reviews and academic criticism can be harsh but nothing compared to fandom
  24. Just grabbed it in uk too. It's been on my "should i give it a go" solely because the title intrugues me. Sadly leckie's book isn't price matched in uk at moment.
  25. I bought this last month. Still seems too good to be true. Only minor catch for me is that it doesn't qualify for audiobook discount. I'll be reading these the old fashioned way.
