Why Was Robb Such An Awful Diplomat?

What makes you said that? Greatjon had his own command on Robb's campaing in the Westerlands and it never said that he performed poorly, Robb even let him takes the van on his last plan to take the Moat. Greatjon also had to deal more with wildlings than any other lord, and probably took part on Robert's Rebellion and the Greyjoy revolt.

Why Was Robb Such An Awful Diplomat?

Roose was a disaster, he throw the battle without any need and made everything on his power to allow Tywin a easy victory. Exausted his army, when he had the element of surprise he stopped, gave up on high ground and fired arrows at his own men, for a battle that wasn't needed. And why Greatjon would be such a disaster? his idea was the exactly same that Roose tried: catch Tywin by surprise, but unlike Roose I don't see him betraying Robb or trowing the battle. Catelyn made several mistakes herself, starting the whole mess by kidnaping Tyrion without preparing the north like Eddard asked her, losing Tyrion, and later on freeing Jaime.

Why Was Robb Such An Awful Diplomat?

To what house would he use Sansa to marry into? Westerlands and Ironborns are his enemies. The reach lords doesn't care about the north, as we already saw Redwyne and Tyrell refusing the idea, Tarly, would not betrayl his liege as we saw in Renly's death, and this is the same for Rowan, Oakheart and Hightower. Dorne is too far away and already tooked the bethrothal to Myrcella. And no lord in the Vale would risk being cut off from his lands by the bloody gate. Stannis failed to realize that the IT has killed Robb's father, grandfather, aunt, uncle, has imprisoned his sisters and stole Ice, a heirdom of his house... Just to put in comparison, Lyonnel Baratheon declared himself king, after a broken bethrothal by Aegon V... If Stannis had any sense he would realize the North grievances and negotiate. Instead he became mad for Robb not following him for a kingship he didn't even declare. Stannis is too self centered. Robb knows that Balon wants his independence, and he is realizes that they have the same goal at the moment, break free from the IT. Robb also knows that Theon is Balon's heir, and his best friend and expected as any logical human being that Balon would have cared for his son and his strategic goals and take the said alliance. Theon was more than just a emisary, he was a living prof of goodwill to make the alliance. Why Balon hates the Starks? and why should Robb know this? Balon was defeated and humiliated by Robert, if anything Balon has more reason to hate Joffrey "his son" and Stannis the one that defeated them in the sea.

Why Was Robb Such An Awful Diplomat?

Robb was proposing an alliance, sending Theon was a great show of good faith, and we know from Theon own POV that he had all the intention to make this alliance. Little Finger did the same thing when he was negotiating with the Tyrells, he wanted to return both of the Redwynes twins. Balon was the idiot that not only rejected the only alliance possible for him, but also decided to attack a place he had no chance to conquer in the middle of winter, and at the same time making all the other kings his enemies...

Why Was Robb Such An Awful Diplomat?

Robb did listened to Catelyn several times and it backfired on him. Like choosing Roose to lead an army...

Why Was Robb Such An Awful Diplomat?

“I had heard that Queen Cersei has the Hand’s daughters,” Lefford said hopefully. “If we give the lad his sisters back . . . ” Ser Addam snorted disdainfully. “He would have to be an utter ass to trade Jaime Lannister’s life for two girls.” No he couldn't, Robb is just wishing a positive scenario in mid of dispair, as readers we know that it wasn't the case. The Tyrells wanted a queen of the seven kingdoms, Mace does not even care about the north as we saw he say himself. Lord Redwyne laughed. “What is there north of the Neck that any sane man would want? If Greyjoy will trade swords and sails for stone and snow, I say do it, and count ourselves lucky.” “Truly,” agreed Mace Tyrell. Stannis was in the wrong there and behave like a bitter child. He didn't just ignored Robb's but also the Vale and Dorne for no reason. He rumbled the whole prologue about how Robert loved Ned and not him, and how he was wronged by him, than his bitter about Renly and about not being loved by the stormlords... He ignored Cressen and once Catelyn showed up he insults Eddard for no reason and threatned Robb when was proposed an alliance... great display of diplomacy right there. Stannis was a idiot self centered, and is now having to eat several humble pies in the north, fighting for "Ned's girls", the man he envy so much. Karstark already had sent his cavalry to hunt Jaime, and his infantry remained in control. Sparing or killing Rickard has no effect what so ever on Robb's army or his fate.

Why Aegon II spared Aegon III?

after Rhaenyra losing KL and being captured by her brother in Dragon Stone, Aegon III was her last heir alive know at that point, since Viserys II was still lost and belived to be dead. Since the whole point of the Dance was a dynistic dispute, why did Aegon II spared Aegon III? Without a figured head and a heir to Rhaenyra, the blacks would have no alternative to replace Aegon II. Seems rather odd that Aegon II choose to spare his nephew. if anything he hated the boy and the kid was threat to him, also Aegon II didn't seems to mind much about kinslaying since he praised Aemond for this deed and later killed his sister himself.

Was rebellion inevitable against the Targaryen Dynasty ?

Rhaegar bares the fault as much as his father.

Why Was Robb Such An Awful Diplomat?

Well, he wasn't. He just didn't have any real cards to play with. Robb did try to reach Renly, but Renly died, Robb did try to reach Balon, but Balon was the one too stupid, and Robb try to reach Lysa but as we know she would never aid him thanks to Baelish. Only Tyrion tried to solve the war through diplomacy, making the alliance with the Martells and Tyrells, all the other parties did not even tried. Renly already considered the Martells and even Stannis as part of his force but was compleatly ignored. Balon ignored the only potential ally that had a common goal with him and later tried to make one alliance with Tywin but was mocked, and Stannis that only demanded fealty without anything in return and when Cressen tried to sugest an alliance with Robb or Renly was ignored and even the Vale was discarted.

To Kingslay or Kinslay: That is the Question.

Well, using Stannis logic here, the duty to your family and brother comes before the duty to your liege right? so I would think based on this Kinslaying is worse. Jaime if let the Kingsguard could still take CR for example. But Tyrion was excluded from the sucession for murdering Tywin. I would also put breaking of guess right there to be compared with the other two.

Why Aegon II spared Aegon III?

I thought that Baela was the hostage that used to negotiate with the Velaryons and keep Corlys in line. And even then we know that Aegon II did arrive at KL and Aegon III has outlived his utility to his uncle. We know that Aegon II still held court on KL for a few days before being murdered. Rhaena was the daughter of Daemon first marriage not from Rhaenyra, sure they could use her and legitimacy matter that least at that point, but it could hurt her down the line. Aegon II has nothing to lose at that point, and is weird that a vindictive man like him would spare someone. Sure it could be the case, but without a black alternative to Aegon II, the only claimant would be his own daughter. Aegon already was thinking in abdicating and going to the NW before he was murdered.

    Fall of Storm's end

My bet is that they relieved the siege and posed as allies to the garrison of SE, and with this, the gates were opened to them and they took the castle by deception.

    Westerlands Loot

My bet is that the loot was divided among the lords of the north and some part given to the riverlords, with the lion share of it going to Riverrun. Taking the golden mines besides taking the loot, also stop the extraction of the gold. It was a huge threat to a house that brags so much about being the richest house in the realm, like Wyman said.

Did the Vale hate the Targaryens ?

Show is not the book, there is another section in this forum for it.

Did the Vale hate the Targaryens ?

They brought Fire and Blood... nothing else. The amount of civil wars fought is almost a joke: War of conquest, Faith Militant uprising, Sisterman's rebellion, Maegor vs Aegon, Maegor vs Jahaerys, Dance of Dragons, four Blackfyrre Rebellions, Peake uprising, Dusnkendale defiance, Dalton Greyjoy rebellion, Lyonel Baratheon Revolt, and Robert's Rebellion. Close to one at each 20 years, And this is not counting the agressive wars without point, like 3 dornishs wars, Daemon carving his kingdom in the step stones, and the Targeryans letting some institutions like the NW became such joke a that cannot evet garrison their castles, and is constatly under revolt.

Did the Vale hate the Targaryens ?

From where did you get the idea that Yohn Royce hates the Targs? can you show a quote?
  18. there are very little things more public than crowing cerimony
  19. And they have to hide it. It's not legal. about the rest it's going on circles. You and I will never agree on the issue.
  20. The list of kings go by Viserys I > Aegon II > Aegon III Sure he was. Aegon II was crowed and is the presented and reconized as the monarch of the period, Rhaenyra is considered a "traitor that died a traitor's death for trying to usurp the crow of her brother."
  21. Yep, and their never became queen... Sure, it's not my opinion that count, but the ones of the lords that will abide by the results of said decision. Maegor was ignored, so was Viserys in the end. Their children would take the name of the spouse, and would not be present on the Stark family, we do not even have their names. Assuming they died is your opinion and not a fact. Arthos Stark also had sons but their are never presented and that branch was ignored in the Stark family tree.
  22. Jeyne became Lady after all her brothers died out and her father, No son was overlooked in her favor. And in her will she writed off a mad man and traitor and his decendants. Just like Cersei became Heir after Tyrion murdering Tywin, not a normal circustance. Viserys exclued Aegon without any giver reason, and this oblivious wold cause trouble. Unless you give one sucession out of Dorne were a daughter came before the son I will keep the idea that Jonnel came before the daughters of Alysanne.
  23. This is confusing... Are you arguing that Sansa was the heir of Cregan? I'll admit that, that is room for Sansa or Jonnel being the heir of Cregan, but Jonnel and Barthogan are cleary ahead of any of the daughters of Alyssane.
  24. Can you show me where is presented that the north still kept the Firstnight? as far as I know Roose killed the guy and ripped the tongue of the other to not let the story reach Ned. If Daemon outlive her, yes. This is the law. That's how it works, Laws that cause more trouble than solutions usually get revoked. Point in case, no one ever tried to push a BS like Viserys did. But Jaeharys decision, one that was made to avoid trouble and be sensible in a case of a blurred sucession still had weight and was repeated like happened when Aegon V became king. Everybody with half a brain would know that it would cause a major civil war. Viserys didn't hold a council to resolve this bloody mess, he just pushed the issue away and ignored the glaring incidents that happened on his face. The rivalry between Daemon and Otto, the rivalry between Rhaenyra and Alicent, the fight over dragons, the bastard allegations, Daemon mocking Aegon and Aemond, Criston Cole and Rhaenyra, that were so much incidents happening on his court that Patchface would take notice and reacted better. The Velaryons couldn't pull the same BS, because unlike Viserys Jaeharys called a council and resolved the matter, he just didn't brushed off and called quits and ignored every red flag for years. In once case we have a reasonable and responsible King (Jaeharys) that faced a real trouble (blurred sucession) and acted acordling with the issue and resolved the matter without bloodshed. In the other we have a moron for king (Viserys) with no real problem, creating one (blurring the sucession law) based only on hiw whim, creating a massive factionalism on his court that ended up with a major civil war that cripled his dynasty forever.
  25. Jonnel was the Lord and was his brother that succed him later. All the daughters of Alyssane were skiped in favor of the son of the third wife.
