    [Spoilers] Episode 806 Discussion

New interview with Kit Harington about Jon Snow's role in S8. It's the 1st interview he's done since the premiere aired. Your final scene doubles as the final scene of the series: Jon Snow leading the Free Folk back into the true North. How did you read that final moment? I loved it. When I read it, that bit really made me cry. What really made me cry was on the paper: "End of Game of Thrones." But as far as an ending for Jon Snow, this character that I loved for so many years and had grown so close to, and had meant so much to me … seeing him go beyond the Wall back to something true, something honest, something pure with these people he was always told he belongs with — the Free Folk — it felt to me like he was finally free. Instead of being chained and sent to the Wall, it felt like he was set free. It was a really sweet ending. As much as he had done a horrible thing [in killing Daenerys], as much as he had felt that pain, the actual ending for him was finally being released. It doesn't look like Jon plans on returning to the Wall. In other words "He ain't going back" Full interview is here https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lists/emmys-bill-hader-jharrel-jerome-more-nominated-actors-reveal-favorite-scenes-set-rituals-1231708

    will we see roasted Jon?

My fanfiction here is that Daenerys will die in Jon's arm after he or Arya stabs her. Drogon lands in the throne room, too late to save her. Jon (the last Targaryen) stands up expecting to be killed by Drogon. Drogon rears up as if he is about to incinerate Jon but at the last minute turns his head and his flame burns down/ melts the Iron throne instead (the actual root of Daenerys' obsession and the root of why she has to die). Drogon will then pick up Dany's body and fly out of the room. As we see them flying away they will slowly disappear. Probably as good a guess as any. We shall see.

    A Time for Wolves

GRRM changed the title of his seventh book from "A Time for Wolves" to a "A Dream of Spring". So what implications, if any, do people think this might have on the End Game? Is this story primarily about the Starks and not the Targaryens? Will House Targaryen survive?

    Episode 3 preview

Wights probably couldn't break into the sarcophagus or even reanimate the bones. But a WW with his weapon might be able to do so and would have to reanimate the bones anyway. If we see the reanimated bones coming out of Ned's crypt I think we could safely assume they are the remains of Ned. Who says a zombie needs a head anyway (skeletons don't have intact nervous systems or even functional eyes). There also is reportedly another skeleton in the scene that seems to represent someone who is not yet an adult (possibly remains of Rickon which might be more readily identifiable as he has not been dead that long). I could see Arya running away from these wights, I suspect she would just fight any others. With some of the other crazy things we have seen in the show over the years (i.e. Stannis' shadow baby) anything is possible. In regards to this being a "fleak". While initially many individuals were of the same perspective as you (including myself) more recent comments on reddit seem to have changed that belief in a number of peoples mind considering the source is reported to be someone connected with HBO affiliates in several area/countries, and the info (which actually was quite extensive) in the leak seems quite plausible. I am not saying that it is undeniably true. If you wish to dismiss it out-of-hand that's your right. As I said we shall see.

    Episode 3 preview

According to what appears to be a reliable leak as reported on Reddit site she does apparently attack on Drogon but is injured falling off him (knocked unconscious) and Drogon is injured. She is saved by Aegon and ultimately comes out of it on boat to Dragonstone after the battle is lost. In a scene similar to the one with Jon on the boat after he returned from his foray north of the wall Daenerys tells him he has a duty to accept he is Aegon Targaryen in order to ensure the continuation of House Targaryen. She tells him he must marry and have children for this to happen as she cannot have children (even though she was told earlier by a Maester who attended to her injuries that she is pregnant-she doesn't believe it or is worried the pregnancy will end like her first one). She is , in effect, dumping Aegon, even though he states he doesn't care about the throne. Reportedly very sad scene. P.S.: The NK was not at WF. He is at KL. I guess we shall see. Please don't shoot the messenger. Obviously may or may not be accurate.

    Symbol at the Last Hearth

I agree with this. My belief is the symbol refers to the pact made back 5-8000 years ago between the Others, CotF, and the Last Hero. The NK uses it as a sort of banner to reveal the reason he is invading due to the fact that the pact was increasing violated by man, with Daenerys' invasion of Westeros with her dragons being the acute precipitating event for his invasion. Humankind's obsessive drive for absolute power is the underpinning to all this. Just my perspective.

Jon's dilemma: What would Ned do?

Jon always has perceived Ned to be his "father". Besides this he was a mentor to Jon and was an ego ideal that Jon aspired to emulate. Jon also described him as "The most honorable man I ever knew". Jon now knows his true heritage. Because of all these things it would seem logical to me that one of the first thoughts he would have to help him identify/formulate his response would be: "What would Ned do". So what do people think would be Ned's response if he was still alive to give it? How would Jon's love for Daenerys complicate the advice he would get from Ned, if any? Is this going to turn out to be the 'Love verses Duty" dilemma described by Aemon Targaryen in season 1? Finally what do people think Jon will decide to do?

    Samwell Tarly stole the spotlight.

I hope you don't mind but I think I need to take a pass regarding your request. I don't want to start any new "debates" regarding other of Dany's "killing" behavior episodes, considering the craziness we are seeing with just this Tarley incident. I will say they are related to incidents in Seasons 4 and 5 and I also have some concerns about certain aspects of the Tarley incident. I don't think we are going to have to wait long to see in which direction Dany is headed. IMHO it should be pretty clear by the end of E2.

    Samwell Tarly stole the spotlight.

This ties into another issue, that being Daenerys being a commander verses Daenerys being a leader. In S4 Emelia Clarke was in a video talking about Daenerys crucifying the Slave Masters right after she took Meereen. In the video Emelia stated that this behavior was something a commander might do but was not something a good leader would do. Perhaps there is a tie in here. Perhaps Daenerys' forte is being a commander, not a leader. Shades of Darrio.

    Samwell Tarly stole the spotlight.

One of my main concerns regarding Daenerys' “executions” is not so much that she killed people (though I do feel some of them were inappropriate) but rather the seeming sense of sadistic satisfaction/gratification she appeared to derive from the “killing” behaviors, coupled with the lack of remorse afterwards. These include the following: Refusing to look away and actually relishing watching Drogo kill her brother with the molten gold. Standing on the balcony listening to the screams of the Masters she was crucifying in Meereen. Caressing the back one of the Family Heads in Meereen while she is watching in an seemingly gratified manner as her dragons burns alive and then eats another Family Head. The smiling and gratified look she had on her face while listening to their screams when she trapped and burned the Khals. The lack of any empathy when telling Sam about her murdering (as per D&D) of his father/brother (indicating a lack of remorse in this case). Again the above incidents have nothing to do with whether you perceive the “killing” behaviors as being justified or not, but rather what she personally derived emotionally from engaging in the behaviors. The sadistic satisfaction/gratification she derived from the behaviors would be consistent with a sociopathic component to her personality and is reinforced by her lack of remorse for the behaviors (at least I do not recall seeing any in my recent watching of the whole series). GRRM is famous for imparting “gray” components (both good and bad character traits) to many characters in his writings. It is all relative of course but at some point the gray can evolve to darkness (as well as in the other direction for characters like Theon and Jamie). If the comments made by John Bradley are genuine then things don't look too good for Daenerys' fate. Perhaps they are red herrings and Daenerys will also move away from the dark side of her personality. I would prefer this. We shall see.

Theories about the LOOK Drogon gave Jon?

Don't forget folks that Jon first petted (caressed?) Drogon in S7E4 and Drogon appeared to really like it. Perhaps Drogon is jealous of Daenerys. I understand dragons may be hermaphroditic. LOL

    House Glover

I believe I read somewhere on the internet that actor Tim Mcinnerny who played Lord Glover was not involved in filming for season 8. Can anyone confirm this or not. If this is true then anything that happens to House Glover in season 8 will occur predominantly, if not totally, off-screen. I agree that it is most likely that the House will be totally destroyed by the NK.

Season 8: News, Spoilers And Leaks

I tend to agree here. Viserion is probably a WW dragon based on the way he was created (I suspect the NK has powers we have not seen yet up to the end of S7). He is immune to regular fire, including regular dragonfire. Daenerys and her remaining two dragons are also immune to regular fire and dragonfire. However Viserion's flame is blue fire, which is hotter than regular fire or regular dragonfire. Why else would they make his flame blue. I would not be surprised if we find this out in the battle for WF. Rhaegal (symbolic of Rhaeger T.) will be killed by the NK (symbolic of R.B.) on Viserion. Subsequently Viserion will probably be killed in some fashion in a fight with Drogon who will be mortally wounded. Daenerys will have to put him to sleep in a mercy killing much like she killed Drogo. In an ironic twist, with the dragons all gone, Daenerys will lose her "Targaryen Specialness", as she had stated in her conversation with Jon in the dragonpit scene in S7E7. While she herself may remain immune to fire, in every other respect she will just be a human like everyone else. I guess we shall see. Should be very exciting to see what actually happens.

Season 8: News, Spoilers And Leaks

I don't believe the AotD can be defeated by armies or dragons. The NK has an unlimited supply of army members he can continually replenish. The NK and WW's (not then wigts) are probably immune to dragon fire and I doubt that dragonglass will kill the NK (although it will kill the WW's). The only way to ultimately win is to destroy the NK and I believe Bran will be the ultimate hero here in finding the way to do so. It will be a little ironic to see Daenerys men being attacked and destroyed by wigt Unsullied/Dothraki soldiers (along with Viserion) and having the country ravaged. Remember Daenerys got the Dothraki to pledge to her to “kill all my enemies and destroy their homes”. I guess what goes around comes around. Just another example of the savagery of war, even with good intentions. Just another guess on my part but I believe it is possible we will find that Daenerys' invasion of Westeros with her dragons will turn out to be the immediate trigger for the NK's invasion. The NK, as a greenseer, probably foresaw that Bran, as the Three-Eyed-Raven, was the only significant threat to his being successful, so this is why Bran is a major target in his invasion. If Friki's spoiler is correct I believe that we will find out that the message found in the Wall was a warning that the NK would attack if he felt there was a significant threat to his continued existence. In line with this he has the same philosophy as Daenerys, as noted above. Daenerys represents fire, the NK ice. With the philosophy noted above both are equally potentially lethal to humankind in their extremes. This will culminate in the Dance of Dragons at KL between Daenerys and the NK. Both Dragons will die in the battle and the NK and Daenerys will both be significantly injured. Jon however, representing a balance of ice and fire (both can be beneficial to humankind with appropriate utilization), will battle and ultimately destroy the NK, probably with the utilization of Lightbringer, which he will obtain by thrusting his sword into the fiery heart of Melisandre. Daenerys will deliver a child and may or may not die from her battle injuries (depending on how D&D plan on ending her arc). Combined with the execution of Tyrion either ending for Daenerys would be bittersweet, depending on how sweet you want to make it. Perhaps we will find out Tyrion's execution/death is the price that will have to be paid for Daenerys to give birth to a healthy child, not Viserion's death, as many have presumed. This actually would be more consistent with what happened surrounding Drogo's death circumstances. It ended up that Daenerys' child's death was the price paid to save Drogo, not his horse as initially thought. One perspective is that the price to be paid to save/allow a human's life should be another human's life, not an animal. Just some of my thoughts. Probably won't turn out this way. But probably as good a guess as any other, and might be more understandable to the majority of show viewers, rather than some highly complex abstract ending (though I don't have anything against such an ending if it does end up that way as long as it is well written). We shall see soon.

Season 8: News, Spoilers And Leaks

I agree. From the brief teaser trailer released yesterday there appears to be a scene with Jon and Daenerys at Dragonstone (the wall in the background is exactly the same wall we saw in a scene from S7 involving Dany and Tyrion having a discussion). We only see the back of Dany (probably to hide her pregnancy) and Jon has a very distraught look on his face. My best fanfiction guess here is that this scene is from E4 with the two of them retreating to Dragonstone after losing the battle at WF to obtain the relative safety of Dragonstone (at least the NK army can't swim to get at them easily). Perhaps Jon is telling her he needs to leave (like Rhaeger left Lyanna and Ned left Caitlyn) her there (leaving Drogon for aerial protection at least) to go south to meet with Cersei to try and convince her to work with him to continue the fight against the NK. Perhaps in the future Dany will make another one of her questionable decisions and leave Dragonstone on Drogon (while still pregnant) to help save Jon (like she did in the past) and fight the NK. I guess we shall see.

Season 8: News, Spoilers And Leaks

I agree that it is tied into Bran being the Three Eyed Raven (3ER). The COTF reportedly created the NK to fight men but he then became rogue and began to try to exterminate them. Perhaps the COTF subsequently created a 3ER entity in an attempt to destroy the NK to defend themselves (I realize that nothing about this has been shown yet in the show). Perhaps there have been numerous 3ER's over the years and initially their creation had limited abilities/powers to challenge/counteract the NK. However with each subsequent 3ER these powers have progressively increased to the point where Bran could now really challenge the NK, becoming a major threat the NK needs to eliminate. I suspect one of the abilities of the NK was to “freeze” the normal seasonal time cycle (wheel) so that it was always freezing north of the wall. He needed to do this to protect his growing “family” of WW's who would be doomed if summer seasons arose. This disruption has also led to the disturbances in the seasonal time cycles south of the wall (the walls “magic” could not completely block this) which has led to the disturbances and unpredictability of the seasons south of the wall. As the 3ER's powers/abilities progressed over time it has gotten to the point where the 3ER has sufficient greenseer abilities to return back in time to challenge and make changes that would threaten the NK. I suspect the seat of power for the NK is the alter in the north where he converted the babies to WW's. The 3ER's seat of power probably lies in the Godswood in the Isle of Faces. The NK wants to destroy this area (along with the current 3ER) and the allies of the 3ER (Jon/Daenerys) need to destroy the northern alter and the NK. I would not be surprised if this will become a major plot line in Season 8. Somehow I believe an additional factor in negating some of the NK's power will also be related the the birth of the PTWP (Jon's and Daenerys' child), though I'm not really sure how this would fit in. Perhaps it has something to do with the agreement made to end the first long night 5-8000 years ago. Just some thoughts I had. Probably won't turn out this way.

Season 8: News, Spoilers And Leaks

From EW 3/7/19: Interview with NK actor Vladimir Furdick The Night King doesn’t speak much. Well, he actually doesn’t speak at all. But the actor who’s played the powerful White Walker for last two seasons of “Game of Thrones” does, and he said that he’s coming for someone very specific when he leads the Army of the Dead in their invasion of Winterfell. Of course, actor Vladimir Furdik wouldn’t actually say who that someone is, so we’re all left to wait until “Game of Thrones” returns for its eighth and final season next month to find out. “People will see he has a target he wants to kill, and you will find out who that is,” Furdik told Entertainment Weekly in an interview. According to Furdik, however, many of the show’s fans who he has spoken to have one character on their wish list, and it’s not who you think: “Many people ask me: ‘Can you please kill Jon Snow?'” he said. “It’s very interesting.” So it seems we now have some info on why the NK is invading. My best guess is Bran (but who knows for sure). Any other guesses?

Season 8: News, Spoilers And Leaks

Good Morning America (starting 7:00am Eastern time) is going to have a "GOT Exclusive" segment tomorrow. Kit and Emelia have been spotted in NYC this weekend so perhaps they will be appearing (would make sense). Perhaps we will get another teaser or maybe even the first Season 8 trailer (hopefully but who knows). This would be a great way for HBO to kick off their major promotional campaign for Season 8 which begins at 9:00pm Eastern time on April 14th. Maybe at least we will even get the title of the first episode. We shall see. Correction: It looks like now that the pictures of Emelia were from LA, not NYC.

Season 8: News, Spoilers And Leaks

From Entertainment 2/27/19: George R.R. Martin had a chance to appear in the upcoming final season of Game of Thrones, yet decided against it.The author whose A Song of Ice and Fire novels form the basis for the HBO hit was extended an invitation by series showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss to travel from his New Mexico home to Northern Ireland to be included in a scene in season 8. But the author decided to focus on writing his next book, the long-awaited The Winds of Winter, instead. “David and Dan invited me to a cameo in one of the final episodes, which I was tempted to do,” Martin told EW. “But I didn’t think just for the sake of a cameo I could take the time to return to Belfast.” Martin pointed out that he previously did film a cameo in the show in the first Game of Thrones pilot, which was subsequently reshot. “There was a cameo in the original pilot that was cut,” he noted. “I was a guest at Dany’s wedding. But that was when she was played by Tamzin Merchant so all that footage got thrown out when we recast with Emilia Clarke.” So it looks like no epilogue with GRRM playing an older Sam.

Season 8: News, Spoilers And Leaks

Some interesting information summarized from Fire and Blood: Despite everything we’ve seen her do, it turns out Dany is destructible. And if we are to believe what Fire & Blood tells us about her ancestors, specifically, one who was named Princess Daenerys the First, the cold might not be the most optimal temperature for our Mother of Dragons. Per the book, Princess Daenerys the First died of “the Shivers,” a disease that kills its host via the coldest conditions imaginable despite the presence of dragon blood. And until her death, the Targaryens believed that they could not get sick. Beware of Viserion's blue flame (although it appears at least in the show to be extreme fire-but who knows for sure). Perhaps Viserys will end up getting revenge on Daenerys in quite a twist. It would be very ironic. But probably will not happen. Interesting none the less.
