  1. I wonder what ASOIAF would be like if it went full Elder Scrolls and magic was just some casual thing you can get a college degree in. Ironically it would remove the magic of the story.

But hey, if they discover something that needs killin', well there you go.

She was stabbed multiple times, swam through a dirty canal, ran across the free city of Braavos, jumped off a balcony, had a pretty bad fall down stairs, and after all this defeated an assassin who's light years ahead of her in experience. And lived, went back to Westeros completely fine!

I don't think it's for us to question the horrible character that is Maisie Stark

And having Bran as King wasn't forced?

Why would having non-white leaders automatically be bad storytelling?

Not the point and not the point. I can't believe I even have to tell you this.

Bran wasn't forced in because of his race or gender, so moot point. As I said, what we got isn't good storytelling either.

Did you forget "forced non-white leaders for simply the sake of non-white leaders" and only see "non-white leaders" on purpose?

That's not what op was saying at all. The problem is not Bran per se, but media as a whole. It can't be denied that a disproportionate amount of fantasy features white male heroes. So just like any cliche, having yet another one is just... yawn... and it reinforces existing and unfortunate stereotypes.

If D&D or Martin wanted this series to embody Trumpian themes, as opposed to sJew PrOPagAndA, that's fine. But people have a right to criticise that. Of course, I don't think it was deliberate at all. D&D just didn't think about the message they were conveying.

Forcing a non-white leader into a story just for the sake of having a non-white leader isn't good storytelling. That isn't to say what we got is good storytelling, but the point stands

    1. Why did the north have to become independent? Sansa said that the northmen wouldn't want to kneel to anyone again after all they've been through, but Bran is Ned Stark's only remaining son so why would it be a problem for them to submit to him?

Because it's an elective monarchy. There is no Stark dynasty in the south.

    2. Why is the Night's Watch necessary anymore with the AotD defeated, and with the Wildlings on friendly terms with the northmen?

    It's a glorified prison.

    1. We don't know who his mother was. For all we know she could be anyone, even a woman from Essos. So claiming he is an Andal with certainity is bullshit straight away.

He claimed his mother has yellow hair, a trait most common among Andals.

Even Robert has Targaryen blood, which does not make him a pure blood Andal. Also House Baratheon is not an Andal House. Of course they have Andal blood in their lineage, due to marriages. But the point stands, that Robert is definitively not a 100% Andal.

Having a German ancestor 300 years ago doesn't make you a German.

I'm not saying he was a 100% pure Andal, I'm saying he is an ethnic Andal. You don't have to be 100% to be a member of an ethnicity. 80% Andal is still Andal.
