For me, but tastes vary (all within the past year or still going):

    Better Call Saul

Legion (it is VERY weird, though)

    Daredevil (cancelled)

    Happy

    Barry

    Westworld (though many similar problems)

I stuck with more (or less) serious choices.  Several good comedies out there, too.

I appreciate the recommendations. I’ve seen a few and definitely prefer GOT over them, but I guess we all have different tastes. I really like Better Call Saul, but I would rate it a solid 7, and I’d never imagine getting on a message board to discuss it with other fans. Westworld’s first season was great, but I never finished watching season two. I was bored with China and safari world. And I wanted to like Daredevil, but there was just too many things going on. It seemed to lack focus. I’ll make sure to check out the rest. Thanks again.

I think here is what is missing - years ago, this show was the filet mignon of the airwaves.  And it remained that way - different from the books but fantastic television.

then...the pre-cook preparation started to get a little messy.  the table service started to decline.  the actual filet was overcooked.  After a while you look at it and can still say yes, I am getting filet mignon...but it tastes like shit and could be used as the sole of my shoe.  So yes, I am still getting GOT, but this show is not as good as it had been - the logical inconsistencies, poor character writing, poor decisions around fight portrayals, the list goes on.

For me it's not great entertainment anymore - but I have also invested time into the show since 2007 when GRRM announced it was coming to HBO, so I am going to spend another 3 hours to see how they close out the story and then wait for him to eventually finish the books.

It has been very rushed for the last two seasons. I don’t think they could afford to keep all the actors together any longer and the CG budget was through the roof. But, like I said, it’s still better than 100% of everything else.

  3. Jesus, looking at the ratings and reading the reviews, I don’t know why some of you even bother to watch. Gluttons for punishment, I guess. I loved it. It’s OK that it’s not a Shakespearean tragedy for me. Or true to GRRM gospel. It’s great entertainment. I would challenge the critics to find something better to watch. And let me know what it is. I really do want to know. I’m always looking for a good show.

  4. Jon would never give away Ghost. That was total BS. . . Dany got screwed a whole bunch of ways tonight. First, nobody really likes her despite her being key to the WW defeat, Jon tells his family the Aegon secret five minutes after he tells her not to, Rhaegal is murdered, then Missandei. She’s right to be losing her religion. . . Was Varys saying he wanted to kill Dany? . . . Arya and Hound on the road again was poetic.

Nobody knows what the 'look' between Bran and the NK was about.  I'm hoping that there is something...just..MORE going on, so that Bran warging through the whole battle is worthwhile, and so that there is just a larger story going on than:  the NK dies.  Threat over.  The end.  Or maybe Bran just looked at the NK that way because he knew that Arya was coming.  And the NK was like "shouldn't you be afraid right now?" :dunno:

You can see a wind ruffling the WW's hair..I'm assuming that was Arya.  I just don't GET how she did it.  Did she just super-speed run by?  Did she suddenly master invisibility?  Anyway, the WW thing was definitely to do with Arya zipping past somehow.

I think Bran and Arya were somehow in cahoots. He went into white eye mode for a long time, and just came out when NK was a few feet away to tell Theon he was a good boy, etc. He had to have been working something out to help save the day.

  6. Sorry if this has already been asked, I’m not reading 400 comments to find it. Right before Arya shows up to kill Night King there’s a close up of Bran looking at NK and then looking down like something caught his eye. Then NK turns head sideways like a confused dog. Camera goes to random WW who also looks like something else has caught his attention. Then flying Arya comes in with the failed kill shot that accidentally actually became the kill shot. Was everyone being distracted by Arya’s arrival or was this in slow motion or what?

I am assuming there is a reason Tormund survived, because it would have been fitting if he had died the way Lyanna Mormont did (which was by far the best death, if there is such a thing, in the episode).

As soon as I saw that giant, I was calling for Tormund, especially after his campfire story last episode. But, no complaints about Mormont. She was true to her character to the bitter end.

  8. I enjoyed Brienne going from ugly duckling, couldn’t get a man to look at her without laughing, to having two of the greatest warriors in Westeros fighting for her affection. Combine that with her “knighting” and it’s nearly certain she will die in the next episode . . . Also, Grey Worm’s conversation with Missandei convinced me of his impending death. I could go on, but it’s probably already been said.
