The new rule for rulers is "it's all by accident" all you have to do is survive the stupidity and you have a shot at the crown. Three dragons is not a shoe in. They just get you more accidents. Better to just fly under the radar and help out occasionally while appearing not to really want to be a royal if you can stand the abuse while the contenders whack each other out of rule. Never stand to close to your big hole in the floor either if you have a castle in the clouds... just saying.

On retrospect, I think the city fry was strategic, as she only has one card to play now, fear. The north looks to Jon, and she has wanted the throne because it was hers, not because she had any noble desire to change anything in the seven kingdoms. Her efforts to free slaves was noble, but there were only slaves across the sea. In Kings landing there was only a wicked queen and a wicked city and she needed to demonstrate serious power and cause immense fear to her way of thinking in order to hold her throne over the land that lookded more to her rivals than to her. So, I don't think it was so much going off her rocker as a cold decision that she fuled with her anger of the moment to pull off to solidify what she hoped to do given the shifting of power that was going on after Jons heritage hit the fan.

Too many out of character moves to get the plot forced forward. Massacre the citizens... where does that fit in her makeup. Varys feeling like he has to back the good guy, well then, why not do it when Ned was on the chopping block, he has always stayed alive to be a force for steering not falling on his sword for some strange gamble. This was great visually but poor tactically.

It was disappointing. Not good thinking on the battle playing out re the Dothraki pointless waste of cavalry or the Night King gloating his way to death like a template from c grade movie. That was a letdown. Now it's just get to the end. They failed to deliver in this episode and this may spell an ending that doesn't live up to the series.
