I really really enjoyed that whole series. One of my favorite new authors. -
The Tokyo Olympic Games
wolverine replied to DireWolfSpirit's topic in 2020 Summer Olympics (Toyko Drift)
Very excited for wrestling. Freestyle heavyweight looks amazing. Have seen the U.S. representative since he was an eight grader and he is an athletic freak. Back flipping heavyweight: Some studs from Georgia and Russia. Should make for an awesome tourney. A lot of very stacked weights especially since the Olympics cut back to only 6 freestyle men's weights (a travesty). No knock on other sports but Phelps can compete in half a dozen or more races himself and only 6 individuals get to compete total for a country in men's freestyle wrestling (or Greco Roman). -
So when I have leftover chili I make a form of Huevos rancheros. I don't think that is really what I am making but it is fucking delicious, I make a cheese quesadilla and top it with the chili, cheese, salsa verde, onions, sour cream and a couple fried eggs. If I really go all in crispy fried tater tots make this even more awesome.

I grill salmon quite a bit. Soy ginger is a great flavor with salmon in my opinion. I go directly on the grill surface all the time. I don't know if your salmon is somehow too lean or something? Very rarely too dry unless I do accidentaly overcook it. You can always add a bit of sauce shortly before removing it from the grill too. If baking tilapia I think butter is your friend IMO (almost like a scampi). I have not noticed an issue with being partially submerged. I often grill tilapia as well directly on the grill. Just have to be very careful as I am sure you know it isn't a very firm fish. Tilapia is sort of like chicken breast, can flavor however you want as it has minimal flavor itself. I am certainly no expert on any of this...maybe one will weigh in.

This sounds good. I love making soups and don't think I have had asparagus soup before. One of our favorites here is cabbage and sausage soup (then maybe ham and bean). They are different every time depending on what I have laying around. One of the great things about soup. Venison fajitas last night. Grilled pork tenderloin tonight and Brussels sprouts.

I like the slow cooker for convenience on things like that, especially for chicken parts. Good if you can fry in a pan first to get some browning or back/broil/grill before eating if it isn't cooked till it falls apart I think.

New Forum Census (AKA Where Are You From?)

Fresh lake trout, brown trout, and koho salmon grilled. Turned out very nice. Not fishy at all and we were feeding some trout haters. Venison pastrami going in the smoker this weekend if I have any time...

Why do you watch if you rate 8 of the 10 episodes a rating of 1? If I hate something that bad I stop watching.

Hmm...I found the episode kinda boring. The king in the north scene seemed ridiculous.

[Poll] How would you rate episode 609?
wolverine replied to Ran's topic in E09: The Battle of the Bastards
Bolton's army was not by the trees. The other points may work, but have nothing to do with surprise, as you said. I don't know that they think very creatively with their battle tactics. But Wun Wun was horribly utilized. As they pretty much were by the wildlings as well, whom had known/used them for a long time.- 543 replies

[Poll] How would you rate episode 609?
wolverine replied to Ran's topic in E09: The Battle of the Bastards
How do you surprise someone with a giant? Being a giant doesn't really scream surprise. Also, Jon Snow was never trained in use of giants on the battle field. I too wanted to see Ghost tear Ramsey from his horse. The biggest disappointment on the show for me is the lack of and worthlessness of the direwolves. Shaggy Dog went down off screen?! They could have at least said something like he killed a dozen men capturing Rickon. I believe it was an intentional confusing mess when Jon was almost crushed in the pile. C'mon, rules of travel and logistics don't exist on this show. What do you mean by too predictable? If the shield wall is facing away from you it is a pretty good idea to charge their unprotected rear. My biggest problem was Jon being an idiot yet again. His sister begged him not to do what Ramsey wants him to do, and he is enticed to do just that. Are they trying to make the case that Sansa will be a much better ruler? At the very least it would be nice if Jon could at least be a good commander. I kept hoping he had something up his sleeve, but no, he just charged in a mad rage.- 543 replies

After this episode I was just thinking how they must be sick of dealing with wolves. But who needs wolves for defense when you have exploding rocks?

[Book Spoilers] EP506 Discussion v. 2
wolverine replied to Xray the Enforcer's topic in E06: Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken
Totally. That was sooooo fucking depressing, disgusting, traumatizing. I knew the Red Wedding was coming, all along here I was hoping for something ridiculous to happen. The old gods could have a weirwood fall on that sick motherfucker. Bran could use his "magic" to somehow make him drop dead. Theon would valiantly strike down that fucking piece of shit. I don't care how unrealistic any other resolution would be, but I don't really want to watch a show where this shit happens anymore. Hasn't she suffered enough? That was so gross... I am a little late to the party, just having watched it this morning, but I could give a shit less about how the rape was depicted. The fact that it happened is horrifying enough. -
They have a large stockpile of weapons to use on beasts that have not been seen for hundreds of years? It is not like your average archer can just knock an arrow and fell one of those humongous bastards.

[Book Spoilers] EP408 Discussion
wolverine replied to Ran's topic in E08: The Mountain and the Viper
So he wasn't any good? He thoroughly whipped one of the best warriors in the Seven Kingdoms. Oberyn died because he got too close to the strongest known man in the Seven Kingdoms as he lay dying due to wounds inflicted by Oberyn. So I really don't understand how Oberyn was not as good as he thought? Did you watch/read the same fight? The Mountain was pinned to the ground with Oberyn's spear through his chest. He lost because he tried to elicit a confession implicating Tywin instead of just finishing off the Mountain or staying another foot away during his interrogation.- 1,191 replies

I have only read Lions by GGK and while thinking it was decent, it did not incite me to read him any further. The complaints already listed were too annoying for me (especially when people mention that is a trend for his books). Plus, his good guys seemed too awesome at everything. I do have UH on my to-be-read pile though.

This makes sense. I would actually be pretty amazed if they had the Golden Boy strangle Shae a la the book scene.
-
I would be more surprised if she didn't have scenes in next season than if she did. They seem to really like her as a character and we have already seen how things that were offscreen in the books may become onscreen on the show and vice versa.

I felt this way a bit too, but thought that may have partly been from knowing what was going to happen. I still gave the episode a 10 as I think it is the best of all 3 seasons.
