Blade of Tyshalle was probably my least favorite.  I didn't really like the concept of "actors" heading into the first book, but man that book was great.

There was not a single valuable word of dialogue all season. However, this episode was so amazingly bad it should win some kind of award for most terribly written tv show in the history of television.

 

I will voice my particular complaints in the complain without repercussions as I feel it is a better forum. However, I will say that "rank amateur" doesn't come close to the sloppy level of discourse on this show.

Earlier on in the season I had said that the show was the quality of bad chuck lorre tv like two and a half men or two broke girls. Frankly, two broke girls far exceeds game of thrones in script quality at this point.

Why do you watch if you rate 8 of the 10 episodes a rating of 1?  If I hate something that bad I stop watching.

Hmm...I found the episode kinda boring.  The king in the north scene seemed ridiculous.

Bolton's army was not by the trees.  The other points may work, but have nothing to do with surprise, as you said.  I don't know that they think very creatively with their battle tactics.  But Wun Wun was horribly utilized.  As they pretty much were by the wildlings as well, whom had known/used them for a long time.

I gave this a 7. It was ok, but not great.

What bothered me:

- Wun Wun the giant was not used effectively. Come on. The Boltons have NEVER seen a giant, why not try to surprise and confuse them with him?

- Where is Ghost?

- The part of the battle where Jon Snow is buried under his men was a confusing mess.

- Daenerys surprising cocky idiots with her dragons for the 15th time in the serie.

-Theon and Yara teleported in Daenerys' throne room.

-The Knights of the Vale charge was a very pale imitation of the Rohirrim charge in Retun of the Kings. Too predictable.

- Lyanna Mormont had no lines before and after the battle.

How do you surprise someone with a giant?  Being a giant doesn't really scream surprise.  Also, Jon Snow was never trained in use of giants on the battle field. 

I too wanted to see Ghost tear Ramsey from his horse.  The biggest disappointment on the show for me is the lack of and worthlessness of the direwolves.  Shaggy Dog went down off screen?!  They could have at least said something like he killed a dozen men capturing Rickon.

I believe it was an intentional confusing mess when Jon was almost crushed in the pile.

C'mon, rules of travel and logistics don't exist on this show.

What do you mean by too predictable?  If the shield wall is facing away from you it is a pretty good idea to charge their unprotected rear.

My biggest problem was Jon being an idiot yet again.  His sister begged him not to do what Ramsey wants him to do, and he is enticed to do just that.  Are they trying to make the case that Sansa will be a much better ruler?  At the very least it would be nice if Jon could at least be a good commander.  I kept hoping he had something up his sleeve, but no, he just charged in a mad rage.

That is one of the best battles I have scene on screen...

I should add, i dont care how an expert rates the 'greatness' of a book, as i understand it C.S.Lewis put tolkien forward for a nobel prize and the judges were unimpressed.

I couldnt care less, to me a great book is one that sucks people in, and successfully affects their emotions. Martin has managed to do that in his first 3 books, and so did LOTR (which i read 5 times but havent read for ten years)

The horrible scene in question was the very last scene of the show, so by the laws of television logic, the next show can pick up that scene and complete it in unexpected ways.

Totally. That was sooooo fucking depressing, disgusting, traumatizing. I knew the Red Wedding was coming, all along here I was hoping for something ridiculous to happen. The old gods could have a weirwood fall on that sick motherfucker. Bran could use his "magic" to somehow make him drop dead. Theon would valiantly strike down that fucking piece of shit.

I don't care how unrealistic any other resolution would be, but I don't really want to watch a show where this shit happens anymore. Hasn't she suffered enough? That was so gross...

I am a little late to the party, just having watched it this morning, but I could give a shit less about how the rape was depicted. The fact that it happened is horrifying enough.

Finally, given that this is ASOIAF, I doubt that all three dragons make it out of Mereen. There are a lot of weapons in Mereen, and the dragons are a serious threat to the populace - surely somebody will shoot one down eventually. Anyway, I don't think GRRM wants to end this thing with another absolute monarchy backed by dragons. And not all of the prophecies in the story will be fulfilled - some will fail, or turn out to be misunderstandings.

They have a large stockpile of weapons to use on beasts that have not been seen for hundreds of years? It is not like your average archer can just knock an arrow and fell one of those humongous bastards.

Lions is the only GGK I have read and I liked it but was not that impressed. I do have Under Heaven on by TBR pile though.

The Blast From the Past: I never liked Obyreyn Martel for a simple reason: he was a loudmouth who was more style than substance, talked a big game and never backed it up; a man whose reputation far exceeded the man he was, and who seemed preoccupied with being right more than he ever was occupied with winning. So, he lost. He lost because he could not keep his mouth shut; he lost because he wasn’t as good as he thought, he lost because he underestimated a man who’s reputation BELIED underestimation; he lost because he thought he was touched by gods, when, in fact, he was just touched by a Mountain.

And he lost because he thought he had one up on Tywin. Yeah… no.

I cheered, just like I did in the books, just like I knew I would watching it. The fight and the buildup were perfect (the fight could have been longer, BUT … getting two actors who have LIMITED sword/spear fighting abilities to choreograph a fight is … really fucking hard- anything more would have been greedy). Plus, the show’s ability to switch around from the books left us all wondering…. Hey could Oberyn win this thing?

And he didn’t; it was fucking amazing.

So he wasn't any good? He thoroughly whipped one of the best warriors in the Seven Kingdoms. Oberyn died because he got too close to the strongest known man in the Seven Kingdoms as he lay dying due to wounds inflicted by Oberyn. So I really don't understand how Oberyn was not as good as he thought? Did you watch/read the same fight? The Mountain was pinned to the ground with Oberyn's spear through his chest.

I have only read Lions by GGK and while thinking it was decent, it did not incite me to read him any further. The complaints already listed were too annoying for me (especially when people mention that is a trend for his books). Plus, his good guys seemed too awesome at everything. I do have UH on my to-be-read pile though.

You're going on the assumption they're going to have Tyrion kill Shae, and that it will be similar to the book. I'm honestly thinking Shae will wind up meeting her maker in the process of getting Sansa out of King's Landing, and that Tyrion will assume Tywin had something to do with it, which leads to that confrontation. They've made such a hero of Tyrion in the show I can't imagine they'll have him make that switch.

This makes sense. I would actually be pretty amazed if they had the Golden Boy strangle Shae a la the book scene.

I'm sure I'm repeating things said earlier, but here goes --

I was sorry that there was only another stone windmill, and no Queenscrown tower in the middle of a lake. But, unless there was already such a tower somewhere in Northern Ireland, it was probably beyond their budget to create it. I wonder if Osha and Rickon will have any scenes next season as they travel to Last Hearth. I'll miss Osha. I always enjoyed watching Natalia Tena do her thing as that character.

Jon was doing Ygritte a favor by abandoning her. He couldn't take her with him back to the Wall. Looks like Jon got away without an arrow in his leg, unlike in the book.

I wonder if next season's comedy duo of Arya and the Hound will be as entertaining as Tyrion and Bronn?

As for the Red Wedding, I wonder how many viewers will be so angry that they will quit watching? Of course, if they stick around for next season, they may be happy to see some Lannisters meet with misfortune. I was interested to see the bread and salt hospitality ritual with the Starks and Freys. It's a pretty basic rule that you can't murder your guests after they eat your bread and salt. The Frey's name and honor will be in the dirt after this.

I believe in the book that Catelyn killed a minor Frey, some mentally challenged guy who functioned as a jester? For some reason, they changed that to Walder's latest wife. I was hoping that, since they changed it from the book, that she would have gone after Walder, himself. The way the scene was set up, she could have done it fairly easily.

Very tough to see Talisa killed so brutally. I guess the suspician that she was a Lannister spy was a red herring. If she had been, one would think that the Lannisters would have protected her. but you never know with the Freys

I would be more surprised if she didn't have scenes in next season than if she did. They seem to really like her as a character and we have already seen how things that were offscreen in the books may become onscreen on the show and vice versa.

Kind of agree with you. I felt that there's something missing with the atmosphere of the scene. I'm not quite happy with Arya too, I thought it's a bit flat. And the way Roose Bolton delivered that final blow to Robb, it felt like it's a drive-by. But I guess I can forgive those because despite those, I liked this episode and it's so difficult to watch. I was literally shaking when they began playing the Rains of Castamere. For that, I give this a perfect 10.

I liked the changes as well. I thought it made the scene more powerful and more emotional.

I felt this way a bit too, but thought that may have partly been from knowing what was going to happen. I still gave the episode a 10 as I think it is the best of all 3 seasons.

True... But I hate the fact that line is deformed and given to Tyrion... It would be a noce touch if they have given it to one of the girls.

Remember, on the show Tyrion gets to do everything good and cool.

So intrinsically wrong it deserved cheering for being stabbed in its pregnant belly? Maybe partly since my wife is pregnant right now, I find cheering that really really disturbing.

My girlfriend cheered too, and shes not a book purist, only tv watcher. She just straight up hated her. haha....but cheering at that brutality? Pretty dark. Dont know what i got myself into haha.

Hell, i cried in spiderman 3.

It missed the thing that makes me cry, so it got a 9.

But it was still awesome, awesome usually gets an 8, so that shows you how much i still loved it.
