And Huge Ackman had the perfect walking into the sunset moment, ruined by god knows how many badly needed millions.

Obviously the actual best show on television is Taskmaster, but I know we're talking about narrative shows really.
Takeshi's Castle then

I'm also not sure you should allowed to put in a show where only a quarter of the episodes were ever good (looking at you True Detective).
S1 deserves that spot even if they milk it to 10 seasons of diluted shit
Andor and BCS did "spinoffs, but better" best

- bun. Creamy luscious ones. Only way to stop my multi sensory diarrhoea.
Elon Musk calling out India's lack of a permanent seat in the UNSC conveniently ahead of Tesla entering the country's quantum leaping multibillion dollar EV market gets echoes from US lawmakers. The incumbent far-right in power here have promised to pursue the same in their parallely timed election manifesto. A series of coincidences indeed. Further ugly capitalism ripping wider the economic divide, one guy if not the other.
But a permanent seat with veto powers cements a global superpower status that gives them a unmatchable rhetoric for future returns to virtually unopposed absolute power.
And it's not if any meaningful consensus is being reached now with the existing Farcical Five having no sway over conflicts and crises either by choice or inability coz veto. One more disagreeing member with own agenda not much of a difference (Sinister Six then). Till its democratic framework wanes like Russia. Not N.Korea levels though. Somewhere between Putin and Xi I place Modi.
This forecast from years ago.

Gonna push back a bit to say that The Wire was the greatest show ever made by the end of season 4, and remains so. No other television show comes close to portraying meaningful important issues with such wit, humor, and empathy. I'll go as far as to say that the Wire is the greatest work of American fiction ever out in screen.
I'm glad you're enjoying more than ever, but it was always special.

Voting (First Phase 160 million eligible voters across 102 of the 543 total constituencies) began in India today exactly an hour ago. Largest democratic elections ever. We do tend to break our own records every 5 years lol.
Cast my first vote, expectedly in vain, but hopefully not.
Till June 1, then counting and results on 4th.

Of all the false alarms, I think I just might be onto something here. And to think it begin in a book group lol.

Gangs of Wasseypur, (whole bloody picture like Kill Bill) the best in the crime genre
Tumbbad and the recent Bramayugam if you like some Eggers and Aster like folk horror
Masaan, social drama
Vidheyan, transition from the feudal era masterpiece, with a Fyodor Karamazov like landlord wrecking havoc
Hey Ram, historical regarding the Gandhi assassination but so much more
Virumaandi, contemporary Rashomon
Visaranai, brilliant Kafkaesque police procedural
Jallikattu by Lijo Jose Pellissery, lays bare primal human instincts
Super Deluxe, hyperlinked Magnolia but lighter more colourful and I daresay better
Andhadhun (our very own Coen/Safdie brothers equivalent), Aaranya Kaandam (download uncut but mid qlty from Youtube and then sub) are the only neo noirs worth the label
Sholay and Raavanan (Tamil version), good ol' western equivalents with the bandits/dacoits of the heartland taking over, mythical parallels in the latter
Caste issue films later on
And you've seen The Lunchbox
Lot of historical movies which Zorral would love but not really great enough I omit
did my best to choose those least culture specific but nobody is perfect so pls bear that in mind
ETA Filtered a few so I don't frighten you all at once
The Last Farmer, I mean this is up there for me with Tarkovsky, don't know how I missed it earlier. An article (supposed to be a review, but... read and you'll know) that embodies the very essence of this film to help ya along the way.

I got exams in two weeks, the world better end well and good by then. Nothing worse than being annihilated after having to prepare for shit which was meaningless anyway. (Lars Von Trier's Melancholia)
Meanwhile I'm having fun being torn between remaining silent (read: doing damnedest to stfu) and voicing my vehement opposition against the right wing fundamentalists who are sure to return to power with an even higher majority, encroaching into the last bastions of democracy, thus virtually alienating myself from about nine tenths of the so called friends, family and acquaintances in my social circle.
Yippee

Sainz could go to Sauber. They'll be Audi from 2026 on, and with the new regulations, they're as likely to be competitive as any of the big teams.
Was hoping Mick would make a comeback in their colours. Or Seb. Or both . Sainz is good enough that multiple teams may vie for him even earlier.

Although come to think of it, a lot of these dance sequences really don't give a f**k about fitting in with the story. They just snap you out and go to completely different locales. I love the gall and brazenness of it all you know?
Well I got saturated with decades of such numbers so forgive my disinterest. But I understand your affinity, when done right they're quite something.

Satyajit Ray first and foremost. To paraphrase Kurosawa, to not have seen his films is to have not seen the sun or the moon in one's lifetime. It's not that artsy, if that's a problem.
I made a letterboxd list for ya'll out west but I deleted my account so please bear with me while I come up with something comprehensive

Adding to that
A Passage to India. Both the novel and the Lean adaptation are great but somewhat distant. In the context of this thread, very relevant.

I'd actually like a western production to take a risk and include something similar
Top off my head I can say La La Land. 500 Days of Summer had a scene where Tom breaks into a jig with pedestrians in sync. But yeah, few and far between.
20 minutes ago, Veltigar said:A bit like the mirror image of The Lunchbox, which excised the dance sequences to bring a western-style Indian film that was really great
Why I'm frustrated is that there are really great films from India, many as good or even better than, say, The Lunchbox. It's always the RRR type excesses getting international attention that irks me.

A final thing I liked was the fact that Dev Patel really did not hide his stance on the state of contemporary Indian politics. It probably doesn't move the needle one bit, but still nice for a celebrity to take a stance.
1 minute ago, Veltigar said:(nor are their any cool dance routines, to really qualify for the title of Indian John Wick).
Woe to them all responsible for the export of this irreparable stereotype.
