  1. Loved it myself. I cannot get over the fact he ran the “original” Greek marathon. His description of bonking when the sun hit him hard and the van was driving on the asphalt road besides him stuck with me. The dead little critters on the road hit by cars under the burning sun. And him running and getting rattled. Fascinating also by the fact he run that Japanese long Ultra marathon with people in the area doing it for years like it’s something normal.
  2. Season 2 has a different vibe. Don’t know if anyone watched the first two eps but they were decent imo. Not sure how I feel about this new leader of the Spartan program but going to go with “bad man with an agenda”. Loved Kai staying loyal as always with Master Chief. How is Makee alive? Is it just John’s hallucination?! Cobalt team seem like they need their pellets removed. Total dicks Silver Team will totally save their asses. felt super bad for Riz and John pushing her specifically so hard but he’s convinced there’s something brewing. Not sure what he meant by “They are on Reach”. Like how? Blending in is hard for those Covenant uglies. looking forward for ep 3.
  3. Thats pretty neat, DMC. Kudos for fitting them all in there You obviously do not fear the universe karma. Watch yourself. I’m saying this as I have just finished LotR Fellowship of the Ring and I’m midway through a The Two Towers reread. Bombadil has NOT improved in over 25 years. God help us all… eh, you stopped too early in your reading… Second Age Galadriel: “So it came to pass that when the light of Valinor failed, for ever as the Noldor thought, she joined the rebellion against the Valar who commanded them to stay; and once she had set foot upon that road of exile, she would not relent, but rejected the last message of the Valar, and came under the Doom of Mandos. Even after the merciless assault upon the Teleri and the rape of their ships, though she fought fiercely against Fëanor in defence of her mother’s kin, she did not turn back. Her pride was unwilling to return, a defeated suppliant for pardon; but now she burned with desire to follow Fëanor with her anger to whatever lands he might come, and to thwart him in all ways that she could. Pride still moved her when, at the end of the Elder Days after the final overthrow of Morgoth, she refused the pardon of the Valar for all who had fought against him, and remained in Middle-earth. It was not until two long ages more had passed, when at last all that she had desired in her youth came to her hand, the Ring of Power and the dominion of Middle-earth of which she had dreamed, that her wisdom was full grown and she rejected it, and passing the last test departed from Middle-earth for ever.” —J.R.R. Tolkien, Unfinished Tales, “History of Galadriel and Celeborn” I feel like this is going from bad to worse.
  4. I got it on kindle yesterday and it’s short. 4 stories. Only read The Thread completely. Say one thing about Abercrombie, say that he always delivers. It has almost the entire Circle of the World under the lens, through the POVs of different characters we meet in the chain of production of a specific item that gets from the raw material (cotton) to to finished product (dress). I got a few pages into The Stone as well. I love it.
  5. I also did some of the YouTube channel videos Tywin was mentioning above! Prime has some good ones as well similar to Yoga with Adriane. For beginners-intermediate I went with 30 days yoga with Julia Marie. It starts slow and builds on. She does have suggestions for how to incorporate her program with a weight loss regimen but she put those at the end and you can simply skip it if it’s not your thing. The yoga is regular Hatha but also some meditation and stretching every 5th ep or so. I’m training for a marathon. Did my first one towards the end of last year and got courageous enough that I enrolled another one this year. I feel I was overly ambitious but now I signed up and said it to my friends, there’s no way I’m backing out :X Plus, my brother will tease me to no end if I do!! lol and I refuse to give that leverage to my big brother, who’ll say I pussied out or some silly thing so he can laugh at me!!! We do push our buttons like siblings do. Get along perfectly fine even so now all I have to do is not get injured in training.
  6. Gosh, I don’t care how I get it! I will even listen audio even if Ser Rodrigo says that’s not reading!!!!!! I read twice his Sharp Ends stories and they are simply brilliant. He’s damn good at it.
  7. Pfft, that’s what YOU think. Heyyyooo… not cool passing subtle veiled judgement on someone’s low tastes, eh? We get it, your tastes in what’s good entertainment is naturally superior to IlyaP and my own. High bar and all, but still… No need for additional bewildered rhetorical questioning of it, eh?!
  8. Yes, it did! I know the discussion moved on but I do want to point out that while those arguments are quite interesting I don’t think the parallels were a political message inserted on purpose. Galadriel’s inability to let go and American foreign politics being similar are just a coincidence as far as I can see, as the Unfinished Tales (where we have some info about this Galadriel) was published in 1980, before the new “American Politics/Woke Activism Hollywood message ”has become a thing In the Unfinished Tales, the Galadriel of the previous Age comes across exactly like the RoP Galadriel: stubborn, unwilling to compromise, relentless, strong willed, a fearless fighter in the rebellion against Valar and burning with anger to follow Faenor wherever he may go and thwart him in any way she could. Sounds like she’s almost obsessed with a purpose. Apparently it took her two ages to calm down and for us to get the Galadriel we ended up seeing in LotR and which everyone expects to see in RoP as well. But that’s not her. Not by a long shot when it comes to the Second Age.
  9. Jesus Mother of God. Nothing there is "American politics/ woke activism". What the literal fuck is going on?! Everything up there makes you a LOTR universe purist nothing else. Anyway, because everything nowdays seems to have an American politics message in it, I actually googled if anyone saw a parallel since King Aerys refuses to mention anything concrete. After dismissing crap articles about meta "reasons" with inclusion for actors of a different color than white for elves or why Galadriel is painted as a Strong Female Character (though we all know she's feared and powerful as well in the books, just not maybe wielding a sword), I finally got something that might make sense even though I'm still not convinced. Did not look up to see what political color the New Republic is wearing, just found the article an neat exercise in trying to see anything of American foreign politics in ROP. https://newrepublic.com/article/167665/rings-power-saga-war-hungry-nation-amazon-lord-rings-review
  10. Noooooooo! Why mess with perfection?!?! There’s only one Road House and only one Dalton!!!! Just rewatch this on Prime a couple of months ago. That being said: I will definitely be watching it. Cause after all maybe Key West also needs a Dalton just like that bar in Jasper did…
  11. Lol damn right!!! I ran a 5k at 0 degrees F last month when the Artic cold hit hard my area and someone on Garmin app commented on my running activity something like “holy cow 5 k at -17 degrees!” I was thinking - “f that, no way I’d run at -17! this dude is drunk” till I realized he was talking Celsius
  12. Definitely looking forward! I’ve enjoyed thoroughly the first season. Sure, it’s nowhere near what I expected but really, what is these days?! Plus, maybe I’ll finally glean in the story those American activists’ political machinations that have King Aerys’ panties in a bunch. A bit sad reading the news that the Adar actor, Joseph Mawle, left the show and hope that whoever they chose to replace him will do well.
  13. This is hilarious. They totally would! polishgenius said it perfectly why it's considered a classic in more ways than one. I do remember how much of a chore it felt to read that book though. Didn't particularly enjoy it.
  14. Eh, a majority of upbeat and super positive personalities also have this no matter where on the political spectrum they are. In spades. Why am I typing this? because I hate that, so I tend to notice these things. Like yourself, I'm also fun at parties :p @polishgenius 300 is totally a message movie... If you work hard enough with the spear and shield you get abs like that. Big fan of that movie. It's probably because of Frank Miller and the novelty of seeing it on screen so well done. Also happy to see any adaptation of the battle of Thermopylae. I don't care how not true to the events it is.
  15. I used to read jacket blurbs like you but yes, takes way too long and am always undecided anyway. About 10 years ago I've realized I'm a creature of habit and once I start a genre, I keep going for a while. So I ended up making or searching lists of books that I save on my phone and then I go book hunting. That's how I find myself half a year in, reading selected books from "Best 15 classical Russian novels" or "30 Funniest books ever written" etc. In the end I realize I'm doing rereads since for example the best 15 classical Russian novels in any ranking tend to have almost the same books & authors, if not exactly in the same order, so when that happens, I just pick up any random book. That ends up being a hit or miss. Not an efficient way to pick books but it's the best I came up with so far.
  16. I was curious myself but couldn’t do it. Thank you for providing summary.
  17. It’s lovely. I love the Artic winds, the sub zero F degrees and no sun winter day. I’m not a pussy. Florida can keep their sunny beaches and warm breezes! Whatever.
  18. I wanted to read the Reacher books since Tom Cruise just to have an idea is the hype was worth it. Then I saw the second movie and said nah. Now with the Amazon Prime series on his second season I think I might do it. It’s good to know though that the books are just about as outlandish wise about “drifter with unlimited resources though nothing to his name” as the movies and series. I always thought the screen adaptation would completely exaggerate the books premises. I also still enjoy for a brain candy casual re-reads of the Plum series :D. Formulaic as hell, but one already knows and expects it. They are light and fun as long as one doesn’t binge reads several at a time. Reading “Fat Chance: the bitter truth about sugar”, by Robert Lustig, MD. It’s not saying in essence anything I didn’t suspect or know. Or anything I haven’t heard before. However since his viral YouTube lecture in 2012 lots of people started to pay attention to what he and many of his colleagues were saying and researching and original book finally got on my list of suggestions from Amazon so here I am reading it. Highly recommend for knowledge and style of writing. He’s funny, detailed, full with references to studies and frankly if you’re interested about nutrition, biochemistry and a good conspiracy theory then one might enjoy it.
  19. I’m excited Curious who Joseph Morgan will be playing. Very talented and underrated actor. He has a wide range of artistic skills but I’m guessing he’ll be an antagonist or villain.
  20. If you’re trying to link those rankings with political leanings, I think it’s possible that conservatives have a strong dislike for science. And therefore nutritional advice. I also think the liberal voting people in those states have some food swamps and food deserts that are strategically found in their area. Regardless I read a lot of papers about why that ranking is the way it is. Multiple factors too apparently. Mark Mattson has some interesting points to make about the whys. Other scientists too.
  21. Florida schools are busy these days… They are also conducting a cleansing of Shakespeare’s sexual innuendos and what not. Because the Bard is too much. I cannot express how silly I think these people are. https://thehill.com/homenews/education/4144479-florida-county-to-teach-shakespeare-in-excerpts-only-under-new-state-rules/amp/ edit: and by people above I mean the ones who created this situation. Just clarifying. The school staff clearly is trying its best to follow the law strictly so they don’t run afoul of it.
  22. It's always the Muricans fault, Corvinus! You knew nothing Now you do
