  1. The absolute fucking mess in Spain right now. So much to unpack and despise but just a few things:

The Spanish women are world champions, but in the eyes of Rubiales, they are women before footballers in all ways and all times, even when hoisting trophies. No player on the Spanish men's national team need ever worry that the head of their federation would 'get caught up in the emotional moment' and get himself a full lip smacker.

The entitlement that a woman is there to support *your* urges in a moment that is about *her*.

The fact that his physical whim was *accepted* by Hermoso because she didn't push him off etc as opposed to realizing she was caught off guard during *her* moment of joy. And that as women we are conditioned to acquiesece through silence and not making a fuss.

More of the men's team need to put pressure on Rubiales to quit. And the doubling down by the federation is infuriating, insulting, and gross.

  2. It's mostly the edible talking, but with the pink and yellow kits in the Leagues Cup Final should be called The Peeps Classic.

Also Messi has taken this last place team to the final of the competition and can likely position them to win the MLS.

  3. Welp. That's that then. Too bad the Witcher has ended and they'll never tie up everything...

In reality, if that is the quality of the writing going forward, it won't matter who is playing Geralt. That was just lame.

  4. A week ago Thursday I was with my mother who was having joint replacement surgery and the area surrounding the hospital was on tornado warning twice while she was in recovery including announcements to shelter in place. Fun times! The first warning started while I was trying to find parking in a torrential downpour and my phones and car radio screeching. Very calming experience all around.

Why do people say USMNT instead of just 'America'?

Because America is actually the northern and southern continents and the US are simply united states within America/the Americas.

And while it's sadly normal to default to the men's team of a country as the national team, for countries like the US and Canada their women's teams are far more successful and deserve the distinction.

And of course USMNT is shorter to write out. B)

  6. I'm so tired of this gatekeeping. I read for work. I read for enjoyment. I listen to audiobooks for a more immersive experience. I couldn't get through the first Cromwell book until I switched to audio. Same with World War Z. And only reading words doesn't help with things like pronunciation UNTIL YOU HEAR IT. Case in point, I had no idea how Ozymandias was supposed to sound like until someone spoke it.

Many cultures have rich oration and storytelling traditions that precede the written word, which you are basically discounting. You're also forgetting that education is a combination of text AND lecture.

Can anyone explain the furore over someone wasting 35 grand on photos of someone over the age of consent in their pants? Are there grooming allegations or where they in a posisition of power? Or is it just an attack on the bbc?

Imagine having 35 grand spare for that though?

Is 17 considered age of consent in the UK? That's the age at which (allegedly) the person was when it started.

"The BBC first became aware of a complaint in May," it said. "New allegations were put to us on Thursday of a different nature and in addition to our own enquiries we have also been in touch with external authorities, in line with our protocols."

(I do see the uh irony? of posting a BBC article about the BBC.)
