@Buckwheat @RhaenysBee long overdue but I agree with your assessments on Bridgerton. Apparently Kate is a fan favourite in the books (which I have not read) and I was watching just thinking how terrible she was. Edwina all the way for me.

I think both of the sisters had their own problems. But Bridgerton might just be the kind of show where it is best to not think about it too hard, too too hard, don't think about it too hard, too too hard. :P

How are you, H? Is everything okay with your work, family, puppy?

the weather is truly crazy, it was mild winter with 8C on Friday, it’s a monsoon-like 20C today.

It rained yesterday. Today I was on a school trip - it was cold, windy and mostly cloudy, but at least it didn't rain. I wouldn't mind higher temperatures and more sun.

I needed to pick up some drugstore items and return a pair of shoes, and… of course, I ended up “just having a look” in the chocolate shop. (They are trying to resell Valentine’s Day stuff for Mother’s Day, which is so funny to me. This is the same stuff that went on sale after Valentine’s Day, and it appears they still haven’t got rid of it.) anyway, I ended up buying a piece each from the new bonbon flavors and I already ate them all. It’s been 3 hours. Oh well. One does not simply walk into a chocolate shop, right?

    Nope, apparently not. :D

Hey Rhae and Buck! Thought I'd drop by and check in for a bit. Hope you're both doing good! I'm well myself, on the verge of finishing my thesis and some pretty cool plans for next year are taking shape.

Hi Fomn, it is great to see you stop by! Tell us about your cool plans. ;)

Yep, that’s the one, we had the four days off. It was nice. Almost over.

Ah that sounds nice!!! Hope you had a lovely time with him or your family, whichever ended up happening. Did you get to do anything nice?

We visited my relatives, whom I haven't seen since New Year. So that was nice.

we had nasty weather since Friday noon, wind, rain, 7-10C. Not very spring like at all. Went on a couple freezing cold dog walkies, ate a lot of lovely Easter food, messed up a carrot cake and read a lot.

Ah I’m sorry, the weather really sucks this months. Have you managed to reschedule the trip since then?

It is stupidly cold after a very sunny and spring-like weather last week. I hate it.

There won't be this trip again. I do hope we manage to plan at least something in the next few weeks.

I had planned to stay here in tiny town this weekend and have the gentleman over, but then I remembered there is the election on Sunday, so I need to go to where my main address is to vote. So need to go to my parents' place this weekend anyway.

This is a shorter work week because the Monday was off. Only a few days till the short holiday. I can survive it, I hope ... did I mention that I have a lot of work? I feel like this is the only thing I talk about anymore.

  4. 12 hours ago, RhaenysBee said:

Certainly something! You don’t have Good Friday off in Slo? Anyway, the 6 days sound pretty good!

This is the Friday before Easter, right? Nope, we don't get that off. Just the Easter Monday.

The 6 days will probably be spent at home and at the gentleman's home. My whole family will travel somewhere, but I haven't organised anything, so I hope I can at least spend some more time with him (he has to work part of that time).

Edwina was a likeable character, and she’s better off without Kate’s “help”.

    I agree.

The weekend plan was to be visited by the gentleman and go on something like a trip near where I live, but that fell through due to weather and his other obligations. Booooo. Also I don't have a car this week, so I have to figure out how to come to the city tomorrow after work. Looks like I cannot carpool with any of the coworkers this time and the public transport sucks.

We had snow on Sunday too. And elections. The joy. And a work crisis. More joy. But I fixed it - with some help from a random colleague. And yet for some reason I have no sense of success or relief. Oh well. At least I achieved that people at work finally actually listen to me when I speak. That’s an achievement.

Congratulations on sorting out the work crisis! :commie:

Our elections are in about two weeks. It should be fun to listen to the news until then. :uhoh:

So many issues… and so little self awareness.

I am going to continue watching, still have 2 episodes left.

    Spoiler

At least the younger sister has freed herself from Kate's planning the whole her future for her.

I was supposed to get a liquor store delivery today. I ordered some of that strawberry wine I had the other week (which was so bad it was good). And the delivery man disappeared. I came home early and he was supposed to call me but he didn’t and he doesn’t pick up the phone either. So… no idea what happens now. I hope they will try to deliver it tomorrow again. I want my strawberry wine.

I think the best idea is to go pick it up yourself!

What else? I’ll have next week off. Which will be great because I’m way past functional human operation and I need some time to put my body and mind back together.

And I need to finish my Prince William (the dog) needle point stitching. Yes, I had ordered a custom needle point stitching kit so I could have a needlework of PW’s little face. I’m also rereading LOTR and I haven’t made progress on that for at least a week because I’m in a current affairs and election rabbit hole.

No other semi-interesting updates I could speak of.

Yay for the week off. Are you staying at home or travelling somewhere?

  6. We had actual snow on Saturday. Now we're back to nice spring weather, mostly sunny.

How is it possible that I have 3 classes less this week (because the students have some sort of other activities), and yet I am still drowning in work? Uhhhhh. I will survive this school year. I hope. Oh yes, it is because of this compulsory seminar/workshop/whatever thing we have to take part in tomorrow afternoon, which means I will have to prepare at least most of the stuff for the long Thursday today ... such fun.

I haven't been able to watch Bridgerton any further than the 5th episode. To which I can only say ...

    Spoiler

These characters have issues. With honour and duty and all. Just kiss already I suppose?

You have wildfires in Slovenia? Awful. I’m so sorry. :( I hope some rain is on the way! Did it cause a lot of damage? Wow it’s weird and a bit scary how we live in a war-election bubble. Absolutely nothing else penetrates the news. War and election. Like nothing else exists. At least the election frenzy will be over soon.

      Hide contents

I know. I don’t know how much time they spent on the script but it’s a bit like it was written in one day. The story is falling apart and all the world building of season one went out of the window… :/

It started raining a bit today. Apparently there is going to be more rain tomorrow. Which means no hiking.

Although our news are largely taken by war and election too.

    Spoiler

Let me just see the next episode ... I am enjoying the thing, I just don't take it too seriously. ;)

One of the few times ones happy for a rainy weather :D

Yeah, I know, well, Simon is above those kinds of disagreements. No living soul could deny his hotness.

I finished the season last night. I wasn’t particularly impressed but maybe I had way too high expectations.

      Hide contents

Yes, I found both leads insufferable and I’m dissatisfied with their character arches as well. It was really the sub plots that made the season interesting, primarily the Featherington one.

Yes. Also because there have been reports of wildfires from around the country in the past few weeks. Hopefully the rain will prevent this for some time.

You are right about Simon. :D

    Spoiler

Another friend who has watched the whole season said something similar. I am still looking forward to watching the remaining episodes, as I don't really expect much intellectual and serious entertainment from Bridgerton, I watch it for fun. It is a much better mindset for this series. :P

  9. 3 hours ago, RhaenysBee said:

Is that perhaps the reason why they are not part of the school system here? nah, they should totally be part of it.

    Agree to disagree.

It looks like there won't be one on  Thursday anyway, because it is apparently going to rain.

    3 hours ago, RhaenysBee said:

That sounds very sensible and beneficial for them.

I am glad you think so.

    3 hours ago, RhaenysBee said:

the only one, really? Have we never agreed about anybody else? Well that’s the power of Simon.
I watched two episodes last night and it’s certainly picking up and getting better.

I don't remember exactly. I just know we usually had wildly different opinions on this topic.

I ended up watching the first episode last night because of course I did.

    Spoiler

I find basically every other character more intetesting than the lead. I want to see more of Eloise, Benedict, mother Bridgerton, Lady Danbury ... just don't care for Anthony. I think I am more invested in the love story of the middle Featheringtom girl and her whatshisname, Finch is it, than I am in Anthony. I hope he becomes likable and interesting in the next few episodes.

  10. We changed it yesterday and now I have to go to work and the sun hasn't even risen yet. This is ridiculous.

My workplace has ridiculous hours anyway. Starting classes at 7 AM for high schoolers is not in line with their biological clock, and I am pretty sure it is not in line with most of the adults' biological clock either. They explain it with the bus and train schedules, as most students live quite far away and the public transport is so poor that a lot of them are/would be in town where the school is before 7 AM anyway - as there isn't a later transport available, even on days they start later. Which I suppose I can understand, but it is still stupidly early.

  11. 7 hours ago, RhaenysBee said:

Yay for that! I hope the weather stays nice.
Oh I like hikes! students not so much. Still scared of teenagers.

Hikes are ones of the worst evils of the school system. :ack:

Teenagers can be scary, true. Most of the times, they are completely harmless, though.

    7 hours ago, RhaenysBee said:

yep that makes perfect sense. I remember being a student and enjoying quizzes because I could get a top score without being able to utter a sentence. Well kudos to you for taking the time to actually teach kids. That’s pretty rare.

I try to make them communicate as much as possible. It works with some, others, not so much. When I give grades for speaking, they need to be able to put together some whole sentences and directly understand my questions and respond appropriately.

    7 hours ago, RhaenysBee said:

I know!!!! That’s a chief problem with this season! Anthony just doesn’t compare to Simon. And while I found Daphne wholly likable and relatable, I just can’t seem to like Kate so far.

Right, Simon being about the only TV character we can agree is hot. Now, it is waaaay too late for me to start watching an episode if I want to be awake tomorrow, BUT ... this conversation is tempting me to start watching it ... I was really really good and graded all those essays ... tempting tempting ...

    7 hours ago, RhaenysBee said:

 yeah, I suggest getting rid of that. I usually get stuck with half bottles of wine in the fridge I used for cooking and forgot about the leftovers.

I will. At some point. I do hate wasting food, but it looks like in this instance it will be inevitable.

  12. 3 minutes ago, RhaenysBee said:

Oh this sounds just perfectly lovely!!! I suppose spring has sprung over there as well. Nature walks are the best.

Yup. I hope to do more outings in the next months.

I have to go for a long hike on Thursday with the students though. I am not looking forward to that. I do like the students. I don't like hikes.

    3 minutes ago, RhaenysBee said:

I’m sorry about this. Do you ever do digital tests? Maybe that’s not a thing in secondary schools. My mother says she loves digital tests since covid because she only has to correct essays, quizzes are machine corrected.

I did some grading online last year when we were online. But when we are actually in school, we don't. And tests are so much easier even on paper. Also, I like to set up tests when the students have to write their own answers, and you can only really set up digital self-grading tests and quizzes with short answers/multiple choice/yes-no answers, and I don't like to use this format of testing that much because it doesn't show what the students are actually able to formulate for themselves.

    3 minutes ago, RhaenysBee said:

ah, let me know how you liked it. I’m three episodes in but I’m just not feeling it so far. Maybe it will get better.

    Hopefully!

Although I cannot imagine they made the 2nd season lead nearly as attractive as the 1st season lead was ... :P

    3 minutes ago, RhaenysBee said:

Oh it was fine, I didn’t have all that much, (luckily I’m so unused to alcohol these days that very little is enough to make me tipsy). I still have a little over half the bottle left for today.

I still have half a bottle of wine the gentleman once brought to my flat open in my fridge. That was months ago. It is probably not good anymore. Hmmm.

  13. 13 hours ago, RhaenysBee said:

    How is everyone over here?
well, I hope. Well or unwell, what you need is strawberry wine. Vile thing, but as addictive as chocolate.

I had a lovely trip with the gentleman yesterday, we had a long walk through the park/botanical garden thing. It is not yet all in bloom though, we probably should have waited a week or two more before all the daffodils and tulips and tree blossoms open up.

And since then, busy with grading essays that I've been putting off for the last week. This is easily the most boring and tedious part of my job. Also extremely time-consuming and difficult, because there is such a great danger of being subjective that I constantly doubt my own judgement and my own capability to do my job properly.

    13 hours ago, RhaenysBee said:

I’m watching the new season of Bridgerton, unlike the strawberry wine it’s not so bad it’s good. It’s just plainly bad. Full stop.

I am planning to watch it over the next few days - it will be my prize after I finish grading these essays. I do hope my judgement is going to be different than yours, I actually want to enjoy it! :P

    13 hours ago, RhaenysBee said:

Will nobody join me in my tipsy rambling? :(

I am here! Not tipsy, though. Have to be concentrated, cause again, essays. And driving to the tiny town to my tiny flat later in the afternoon.

    13 hours ago, RhaenysBee said:

Well, I do hope you’re all having some strawberry wine at least.

    Nope.

How is waking up the next days after strawberry wine working out?

  14. 9 hours ago, RhaenysBee said:

Ah I'm sorry. Do you expect the workload to get more bearable or is this standard for your job?

Same here. It’s 13-15C in the afternoon but sub zero at night.

I think this school year has taught me that this is the standard, sadly. I used to tell myself that it would get eaaier after this one assignment, but then a new assignment crops up every time. And then there is the next parent-teacher meeting, and the next test/essay to prepare and to grade, and the next class to plan, and the next assignment I have to accomplish and seminar to attend for my own continuous education ... and somehow I still end up thinking I don't know and am not prepared enough.

And I have to go to the dentist today.

  15. 23 hours ago, RhaenysBee said:

I’m okay I guess. You know. Not great, not terrible. It’s getting quite spring-like here as well. We just had a long weekend.

I had a week long holiday like two weeks ago, and I am exhausted again. Uh. I stayed late at work today to catch up with some things, and work just keeps piling on still.

It is getting quite spring-like in the afternoons here too. Mornings are still very cold.

    Bad news is an understatement.

I hope you are all well too. I still have one more day of work and then I have one week kind of "off". Will still probably have to prepare stuff for classes and all, but at least I will have more free time.

 Ah my bad. Back in the day when there was no covid and I was still at uni, we always went to ikea some time in the morning and had swedish meatballs in the cafeteria and then went over to the mall across. Or vice versa. It was usually a 4-6 hour browsing trip, and very often we barely bought anything.

Yeah… counting the days till the next crisis… which my mum says I shouldn’t because that’s how you attract them.

If they are interested in ski jumping I’m sure you did. Or even if they aren’t because not-having-to-study is always better than having-to-study.

I had these meatballs. They didn't live up to the hype. Maybe they were a bit stale, as it was quite late in the day and they seemed to have been standing there for a while, as well as the mashed potatoes. I definitely don't want to spend several hours in a store, especially when I am not looking for something specific.

  19. On 2/13/2022 at 8:52 PM, RhaenysBee said:

Yep, I suppose going to IKEA is always a day trip, or a half day trip at least. Ah those were the days when I still went to ikea in person as a pastime.

Thanks. Well I can’t say the place was aired out, but I did wear two masks, opened the door and she was in the other room, so maybe perhaps there’s a chance I didn’t catch it. The repairman was a godsend, I could have hugged him if it weren’t for covid and all. The fix was quick and not a rip-off for Sunday 8pm. I’m back home, the electricity is working. God I would love just one full week without a crisis.

A day or even half a day in a store? *shudder* Are you trying to torture me? :o

Yay for working through the electricity crisis this time.

I let some of my students watch the Olympic skijumping for a part of the class today. I hope I earned some cool points with that. :P

  20. It was at least somewhat fun. The gentleman needed some shelves for his apartment, and looking at shelves did take quite a long time ... but otherwise, it was nice. :)

I am so sorry your life is currently full of crises! Best of luck to sister with her health - and to you, be sure that you both wear masks and air out the place! And I hope the electricity comes back soon ... uh. Keep us updated and stay safe. :grouphug:
