I considered voting 1 and coming up with a list of nine inconsequential changes from the novels to "justify" my vote just to make a point. But I ended up not bothering.

I've always seen the Hound's story as kind of a parallel to Jaime's. Both men have defined themselves essentially by one characteristic--and then both have that self-image ripped away from them (Jaime is no longer a fearsome warrior, thr Hound no longer a fearless one). It's where they go from the point that they realize they have to redefine themselves where they diverge. Jaime becomes something better, the Hound something less.

I agree. Having said that, remember that feeling. That's how I've felt all along for those people who have been rating episodes this season below 7 when they have all been 8 or better. And that's a fact.

I actually agree with a complaint from Ran for once  I'm a little surprised Martin chose to have Stannis in the front of the battle--he always seemed more like a lead from behind where the leader can actually be of use kind of guy. Robert is the Baratheon who'd storm the walls personally, not Stannis.

Pretty good episode, although I'm not really that into graphic fight scenes as much as most fantasy fans though.

[Book Spoilers] EP 208 Discussion
zippypoodle replied to Ran's topic in E08: The Prince of Winterfell
What is with this "necessary" shit people keep throwing around? How can any change be neccesary, as in, it would be impossible for the show to exist if the change wasn't made? Because if that's not what you mean, then necessary is the wrong word and you need to go find the right one. As to whether the changes matter, they don't, practically to the point of that being an objective fact rather than a matter of opinion. Jon is still going to kill Qhorin to prove himself. Ygritte already spoke up on his behalf to the Lord of Bones. No meaningful change, except that Ygritte now has a better reason to speak up for him than she did in the book, which is a change for the BETTER.- 530 replies

There are any number of events which arguably started the war, or at least started the chain of events. My personal choice is Cersei's selfish and stupid refusal to bear at least one of Robert's biological children. She even tells Sansa that you can love a man's children without loving the man. Had she borne at least one actual Baratheron, it would have quelled any suspicion of twincest.- 530 replies

I gave it an 8. Overall, I liked it. But I took it down one point for Talisa/Jeyne's long boring story. I also took it down another point for Arya not killing a guard herself on the way out. I don't really mind not getting weasel stew because we did get her giving Jaqen his own name, but I really wanted to see Arya escape herself. I love that Ros took the place of Alayaya as the misidentified whore. Just waiting for the rabid-anti-Ros howls to start. And anyone who was worried about Jon's storyline should be pacified now. They are clearly setting up Jon to have to kill Qhorin on Qhorin's orders and not because he's in love with Ygritte. Dany's storyline is set up well--hope the HOTU ends up being epic. I was a bit annoyed that Robb fucked Jeynelisa and Cat freed Jaime without finding out about the "deaths" of Bran and Rickon, especially since it would have been so easy just to let one damn raven through. But in the big picture it really doesn't matter and is not a substantive change. I also am enjoying the Brienne/Jaime interaction. Those two are going to play off each other really well. And Sam finding the obsidian is a good twist on the novel while keeping to the spirit of events.

There haven't been any meaningful changes, so the poster you're quoting is getting upset for nothing anyway.

There haven't been any ridiculous changes that don't make sense, which renders the remaining points moot.
