  1. It generally means playing in a top tier annual tournament. So all 6Nations and all QuadNations teams are tier 1, everyone else is tier 2. It's getting murkier as the gaps between the tiers reduces, but until recently, they were the only 10 nations with at least 1 fully professional club playing cross-border competitions. Drua in Super Rugby has changed that in the technical, whilst USA and Japan both have professional leagues - even if they don't play cross border.
  2. I was treating donors and friends as being the same people - but yes, you are correct. Should also add honours and peerages for themselves.
  3. When did Argentina lose their tier 1 status? Japan is a multicultural hodge-podge, with a reasonable diaspora from the pacific islands (which I assume is what you mean by "African") ETA: my apologies, it looks like Dylan Riley is technically an African. Eligibility criteria in rugby are: Born in country Parent or Grandparent born in country Lived in country for 5+ years And new for this RWC, have played for a different team before, BUT not for 3 years AND have self/parent/grandparent born in country.
  4. I assumed that was reserved for Gambon today
  5. WTAF? https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/sep/28/famous-sycamore-gap-tree-at-hadrians-wall-found-apparently-cut-down
  6. I know doggy names go through regular, and somewhat bizarre metamorphoses, but this is just silly. I the course of 1 week her name has already gone - from Nimue => Nim => Nimble => Nimbles => Nimbulus Nimbletonia. Elsewise, she's undecided yet if she's going to grow up to be a dog, or a cat: https://www.therugbyforum.com/threads/puppy-training-thread.44066/page-15#post-1151300 @Derfel Cadarn - How's Penny doing?

  8. Wow, where did that come from? Well done Wales, top of the group and fully justified.
  9. FTR, Ireland now almost guaranteed to break the Raeburn Shield's longest streak (currently NZ on 18, Ireland just reached 16, so beat Scotland and win the QF, to draw level, reach the final to break the record)
  10. Ow. Sent the defense the wrong way, and took a flailing clothesline to the throat. No foul due to my change of height with the side-steo, which... doesn't feel right to me.
  11. I'd far rather give people an invoice for what NHS treatment costs; with a "paid in full" at the end, obviously. People just have no idea how much this shit costs, and how lucky we are to have a NHS, even one creaking under the stress of the last 15 years. Start doing that, and absolutely nobody would support privatisation (other than ideologues)
  12. UK medical advice would be 3 weeks (if simple fracture). Players don't have to follow that advice though, Brad Barritt, for example, played a HC final within a week of doing his. Insurance is stricter in France though, which introduces an unknown factor. Yes, there is... kinda. The Africa Cup doesn't include South Africa; and America's doesn't include Argentina (or at least, doesn't include their test side).
  13. Would anyone be surprised if we see Dupont stay with the squad, sit out Italy, and maybe the SF, but play the QF and Final (if there) wearing one of those legal face masks? He's just one of those players you think it's going to take more than a fractured cheek bone to keep him off the pitch at a home world cup and probably France's best ever chance. Nick Mullins thinks it's jaw - which would be a different story entirely. Gotta say, didn't look like a jaw hit, or that he was clutching the jaw o his way off. Here's hoping it's just some bruising.
  14. Nimue has just had her first contratemps with Beli - he lost a ball under the sofa, she got further under, and he snapped at her, drew a little blood (barely anything) and was immediately feeling guilty and sorrowful. Nim's drama queening lasted about 30 seconds, so more hurt pride than anything else. Last couple of days I'd been really impressed with how jealous he wasn't being, and how careful he was; but not now. Hopefully that's a lesson in respect, and I@m pleased with the way both reacted afterwards - but confirms that they're not ready to be left alone yet.
  15. Whilst on the "first dog?" bit. Treat the puppy school (and puppy school, not so much 1-on-1 unless specifically required) as human-training with your dog along for the ride, because its you that's doing the learning, her a little, but not so much. And based around rewards and play is very important - basically, once she's got a mind of her own, you want whatever you've got to offer her to be more interesting than that cat on the other side of the road. Socialising (once fully vaccinated) - needs to be done where she feels safe, and introduce her to as many different dogs, humans, and generally stuff that might spook her. But you also need to be careful not to over-stimulate her, and make sure she's comfortable whilst doing this. Good puppy classes will include a lot of this, and remember that you get to ask the trainer questions as well. Dogs spook at things like big dogs, little dogs, black dogs, tall men, short women, kids, hats, glasses, beards, deep voices, high voices, singing, horses... the list goes on and on. The more she meets these things whilst everything is new, and without being spooked, (and preferably without a big deal being made of it - maybe a little treat for ignoring it) then the more she'll ignore them later in life. Oh, and when she's ready for walkies - get a harness (JuliusK9 would be my recommendation), rather than attaching lead to collar. And finally: Penny is a lovely name for a dog - my niece has a Penny. But Nimue is far better (and yes, she is feisty) :p
  16. As Ran says, mouthing is a pup's way of exploring the world. You've already found most of the advice, so it's mostly a case of persisting, and remembering to reward neutral behaviour*. Over-react as if in pain, remove any and all attention (and the nipped finger/toe - calmly and pointedly) for like 3-5 seconds, and with double the attention as a "reward" for not biting whilst she didn't have the chance - and probably over-react and remove again 1-2 seconds later. Keep repeating this, and she'll learn. And accept that it'll take time - like several months, because she'll have to relearn each day. The other thing is to distract - get out her favourite toy** - let her know that it's okay to bite that as much as she likes. Fending her away is making a game of the bite, and a reward for doing so. * I take it Penny is your first dog? One of the most important behaviours to reward, especially for something like a Lab, is "settle". When she's nice and calm, awake, but just not doing anything - casually and calmly, drop a treat near her nose - say "settle" when she notices it and gobbles it up. ** On which, the best toys at this age would be: 1. Straight Kong - which she can munch on as much as she likes, especially if you've put some cheese, peanut butter or pouch etc in there; this gives her some calm time as well. These can really help with "settle" too, and is always our go-to when we need to pay attention to the trainer at puppy school. 2. Home-made rope toy - any old fleecey type rug or throw; cut into 1-2" wide strips, full length, and then braid them together. Nice and soft for her mouth, dirt cheap, easily replaced, and brilliant interaction for you and her.
  17. Hope you all get t the bottom of it, good luck pup-twin
  18. Once they've stopped growing, then absolutely; at the 8-week mark though, it's changing all the time. I don't think I'd ever looked at the recommendations for adults until this today.
  19. Good luck at the vets - hope you get one who knows what they're talking about. Let us know how it goes. Are you using the same food she was used to before coming to you? If so, were they feeding her 500g too?
  20. That's insane. My Nimue is a whole 1 day younger than yours, same size as yours (hell, half the same breed as yours), and is 200g per day! That's the same for both brands we've got in for her. Are you sure you're reading it for her current weight, not expected? or reading "170g per day" and thinking it was per meal, so 3x170g? ETA: I've just checked my bags, they can get up to 500g... once they've reached 12 months and 40kg FTR: she was on Arden Grange when she came to us, so it's that, and the other is Core Wellness - both far posher than she'll be on once grown. All brands will publish their recommendations - both on the packet, and online; and you adjust within those recommendations for your pup's actual size and activity level (and whether you can see all the ribs, or you're taking it on trust that ribs exist somewhere, deep down in there). Can I ask what brand you're using? both wet and dry? ETA2: Just checked what I feed the adult dogs - they get 400-450g per day, and they weight 42 and 39 kg (and obviously, not still growing). 8 pouches seems much more reasonable quantity - mine say 6 for the size of my puppy, so within the margin of error. ETA3: The other thing to mention is that eating that much dry food, will be sucking water out, she'll be needing to drink a tonne of the stuff to get healthy.
  21. How'd you like that one @Tywin et al.? @ljkeane Fiji really need 2 more things, now that they e found a kicker or two. A functioning lineout, and enough composure to convert the overlaps they're creating, rather than throwing huge miss-passes to eat up all the space and turn a 4 on 3 into a 1 on 3 as the defenders all drift into the winger.
  22. You've got your own professional league. https://www.majorleague.rugby/ I've spoken to several Americans who got into rugby through it's presence in the Olympics. It's there, you just need to hunt for it (as is coverage of the the various leagues from around the world, and the international game).
  23. Welcome to the pack, Nimue https://www.therugbyforum.com/threads/puppy-training-thread.44066/page-15#post-1146228
