  1. No idea but are they able to have cheaper prices because they have better conditions? Assuming normal circumstances. Black soil and huge flat space might enable higher efficiency. Considering that Ukrainians, together with other East and Southeast Europeans are taken advantage of inside the EU too, it maybe is a better deal to use their manpower and compete on the product market instead on the labour market.
  2. If only the stupid EU could have foreseen the trouble for their most esteemed members Poland and Hungary. Let's wait and see if they start supporting Romania, Bulgaria and Slowakia dealing with this issue. That won't happen though and EU shouldn't do that kind of thing, regardless of what we think of Fidesz and PiS. But isn't bringing down food prices a good thing if you are not a farmer? And since Ukraine is on its way to EU membership, they have to get used to the competition anyway.
  3. Since I have to access to the original fine print, I am forced to read what is freely available on the net. This is from the Crédit Suisse website: There are plenty of sources on both sides of the Atlantic that formulate it even more clear, at least it's clear for me as a layperson. In general this whole Coco bond debacle unmasks the modus operandi of the financial industry quite nicely. It would have been possible to issue new equity instead of bonds to bolster their capital base. But the return on equity is usually ridiculously low. That's why they* had to invent this instrument to siphon out earnings without responsibilities. Or so they thought. Compare the returns for the shareholders with the bonus returns of the managers. I remember in Crédit Suisse it was 1:10 over the last 10 years. Finance managers have a huge interest in keeping the money spinning instead of sharing it with the nominal owners. *"they" is used here as a short hand for the responsible actors, not in the conspiracy theory sense.
  4. You know. Even though the US thread is locked, you could start a new one.
  5. Of course they have to sue. It's their duty. Doesn't change the fact that the fine print was there all the time. Eta: What annoys me with their whining is the following:2008 after the finance economic meltdown caused by the finance institutes, the states decided to take a lot of tax money and future wealth (by printing money). The financial institutes took and still take the money. So it's somewhat annoying that they now complain that the same states now dare to not decide in their favour. Understandable, but if they are really interested in polishing their reputation, they don't do themselves any favour.
  6. Not sure that will lead to anything. It has been tried unsuccessfully with Banco Popular. There is a reason for the almost 10% coupon (not sure about Crédit Suisse, but others pay that much). As you said before and reminded your team, the risk is high. But if the risk management wasn't adequate, maybe trying to hide the fact behind a frivolous lawsuit is not a bad idea? When it's solved to the disappointment of the bank shareholders, the responsible managers have moved on anyway.
  7. Chinese traditionally use knifes in kindergartens. And yes that happens. Probably not as often as in USA but who can tell?
  8. Why is that wrong? It was clearly stated in the conditions as far as I can read it. Wrong would be if any authority would have changed the rules as soon as it becomes inconvenient for the wrong people, and I say that as someone who is affected in a very indirect way. (Via Allianz stock)
  9. Unfortunately wifes are one area in the hectic world of business where outsourcing tasks are met with energetic resistance by the stakeholders. Even when they themselves refuse to hold said stake.
  10. Hey, I suffered the effects of daylight saving time twice this week by traveling to a different time zone one hour earlier than mine. Take hope, it's possibe to survive. Looking forward to the real thing end of the month. Me and my wife both work till 6 every day. Especially for her it's the only chance for sunshine after worj
  11. The fact that a news magazine chronicles those things tells you everything you need to know about how twisted the press behaves here.
  12. I think they should sit that one out and hope for a King Ralph moment.
  13. Didn’t he also justify his lack of reaction to Will Smith’s action with that you don’t fight in front of white people? Seems like he just needed a bit more time to come up with something witty. But hey, still under one year.
  14. We had the -probably - world leading solar industry. Then the decision has been made to stop supporting them because it's cheaper to buy in China. Not sure it was get rid of green crap, possibly more of why should we pay for them?
  15. So I finally bought a nice ergometer. With Bluetooth! Currently I'm using Kinomap on my iPhone. While it is nice, I'm not prepared to pay a subscription fee that is similar to a gym membership. I'm not going to use most of the fancy functions anyway. Just the training programmes and it would be nice if it keeps some statistics and tells me how awesome my improvements are. What would be good alternatives?
  16. I can totally believe that. I'm working in an engineering company. Not saying me everything is rosy here, but merits do count. Strangely enough, none of the PhDs that started on the same level as me have been promoted yet. But back to the topic. I don't think the women here had to be better, but those I know personally definitely wanted that promotion, while lots of the guys seem to be happy with their expert career.
  17. Completely anecdotical: my current employment is a kind of start up within a huge multi national company. When we started 2018, we all had no idea what do do, but we're all highly trained professionals. From the about 20 percent women from the first generation almost every one has been promoted or changed job mostly within the company to get a promotion. The exceptions either startet their own business or in two cases lost a power struggle and had to leave. The one from this or the next wave of employment who is still at base level had two children with one year maternity leave in that time. I think all of those promotions were highly deserved though.
  18. Aren't role models usually fathers, brothers or other people from your social circles? Not sure why we need some footballer or actor or if they are to left or woke for you, a rapist pimp like Tate. But if you need a celebrity, pick Volodymyr Zelenskyy
  19. Nobody said they have done nothing and if my text reads as such, apologizes. They just didn't use the time, they bought for themselves, wisely. They have frozen the situation and it's coming back now. Observer article discussing what it could mean politically
  20. Policies changed all the time and were handed out arbitrarily all over the place. Compare the handling of outbreaks in Shanghai and Beijing. Are you Chinese? And that was very admirable. And from outside it was very visible how the government was brainwashing it's people with and during those measures. Even open and educated people were singing praises to the party in the end. Well this is the end. I consider the 3 years that the zero covid policy bought you plenty of time. Other countries managed to develop several generations of working covid vaccinations, made their health institutions resilient and developed strategies to deal with outbreaks. China...nothing. https://bioprocessintl.com/bioprocess-insider/moderna-and-china-at-impasse-over-mrna-covid-vaccine/ For example this link. It's the first one in English that I could find but there are more. This is a tried and tested pattern by the Chinese government. So you acknowledge that their aim was political gains? That's why we can expect the Chinese government to act more responsible. They can't scoop themselves out of the globe. Anyways. No hard feelings. I have watched the effect of the Chinese propaganda since covid start on friends and relatives. But maybe consider the fact that the current situation in your country points out that not everything is well.
  21. Because they changed policies every day anyway. Just getting a fancy name for it doesn't make it worthwhile. There was no special significance to this. It's not worth remembering. The only thing counting is the woeful lack of preparation. They had plenty of time to do anything. They didn't. They tried to steal the recipes for the efficient vaccinations but failed. They were just crawling from one political milestone to the next, avoiding any responsibility in between. They used the situation for their political gains, like decoupling the country from the rest of the world. They successed in this, which will come to bite them later, because the west answered in kind. Now thanks to your glorious leader, whe might have more unnecessary pandemic waves. All my extended family in Beijing is down with covid but can handle it - they have the means. I don't even want to imagine how it goes in the poorer areas.
  22. How hard would it be to find something identically moronic from your neck of woods? I thought only people from Florida would be able to miss the point of my post by such a wide margin.
  23. No need to cry, @Luzifer's right hand! They Are just jealous of your swamps (Ballhausplatz)
