  1. It's a puzzle to have the show runners say that the story lands on the same spot as the prose story does, unless George changes it! So we are moving towards territory where the show does not spoil the novels , which is interesting.
  2. From the published chapters of Winds of Winter it seems the breaking of the siege of Meereen is bringing together a bunch of arcs now not clear how they are going to do that without the siege.
  3. Apparently Ian McElhinney didn't : http://www.ew.com/article/2015/05/01/ser-barristan-dead-thrones So we still don't know the actor who squawked.
  4. This is the first time a 'major' character introduced from the prose story has been eliminated. Curious about Grey Worm now. From the leaked chapters of Winds of Winter we know Selmy and Grey Worm still have important roles to play , for a while at least. So this is kind of a anti-spoiler , we won't really know what happens to them till Winds comes out. So far in book 6 from the excepts Selmy is directing the battle to break the siege of Meereen. Grey Worm is leading an arm of the army. So both appear to play a roll in the start of Winds not clear they will be killed in the battle.
  5. Something 'loose' about first time series writer Hill's teleplay. Usually David and Dan do a lot more tightening than this. No matter the narrative , the pacing seemed off.
  6. Yes I like that its the way I rate the episodes. In not that the production values are great its that they are extraordinary for a TV production. There is an attention to detail that's amazing. I give a point also for cinematography , HBO has always been good at this but it's been particularly strong all five seasons now. Even tho it is a parallel universe it's 'medieval' setting is the best I have seen for TV , maybe even in film too , at least for the scope. So I agree no lower than 6 right out of gate.
  7. I thought that's what the old lady was doing. That she's a Stark. In the books no one of the old Winterfell inhabitants seems to notice that the Fake Arya is Fake! This was nice.
  8. Mossador's story surprised me. Not what happened but how fast it happened. Sort of expected that story to go on for two more episodes. So Mossador is here then he is gone! So who becomes the kind of Slave liaison to Dany?
  9. Myles McNutt is one of the best reviewers : http://www.avclub.com/tvclub/game-thrones-experts-house-black-and-white-218204
  10. This season seems to say more about the pool-ees than the show. I was entertained at the 9.0 level for episode 2.
  11. Wondering if they will do any Braavosi Valyrian ? Or just high Valyrian in Braavos. Was kind of disappointed the street toughs didn't speak their few words in Valyrian.
  12. Not sure why there was not a straw that would have broken Selmy when Aerys's madness went over the top. He should have joined Robert. In fact Prince Rhaegar probably should have deposed his father, that would have been a complicated turn of events if he had enlisted Robert to do that!
  13. Anyone notice that someone seems to be speaking to Arya in the promo for episode 3, a female voice , the Waif?
  14. Well Pedro Pascal did not really seem to have a 'Latin' sounding accent either. It was just kind of other worldly. They are in a different universe you know?
  15. Observation: Two of Dany's Dothraki, not sure if they are consistent about the extras. For the first time a Second Son , not at a distance , with Daario. Second Sons don't seem to stand around in the throne room.
  16. Well, up to episode 9. Then it depends on your definition of 'well'.
  17. 55 minutes, nuts. Three more minutes and we could of had a little more of Ternesio Terys (Gary Oliver) interaction with Arya. I wanted to see him emphasize "Don't forget my name." Even a little interaction with the crew as Arya left the boat. Just 3 lousy more minutes. Come to think of it, Arya just moping on the steps of the HoBaW went on for too long.
  18. The mystery continues. Emilia except for season 1 and a few sequences since, is best when speaking Valyrian! (I am guessing this is High Valyrian and not Meereenise Valyrian.) Fine projection , inflection and body language, speaking something totally different than English, it's weird. I was surprised at the length of the Valyrian dialog in this episode, I love it. Not sure how many do since I hear people dislike reading subtitles. I hope this is not the last , the Valyrian speaking sort of trailed off in season 4.
  19. I still think the opening scene of Arya arriving in Braavos should have been the opening scene last week.
  20. There were those who rightly predicted that the show would use an already cast actor for the character of the 'Kindly Man' , who in the books never has a name. So indeed (as we knew by now)Tom Wlaschiha is back. (I wonder about those who think the show would cast someone else?) I am glad to see Wlaschiha he not only has a charismatic face but comes across as an exotic. A fine actor with a finely balanced mode of delivery , his German accent is just the spin needed for a guild of the otherworldly.
  21. When Viserion and Rhaegal act peckish Dany says "Easy, easy" in common tongue , well what the heck they don't understand that, she forgot to use Valyrian!
  22. Darrio mentions fighting like a Norvoshi Priest, boy that's obscure, but then, we will meet Areo Hotah E2. Hotah is from Norvos but don't know if he was priest? (The bearded priests.)
