  1. Can we add/confirm this to the SSM:

Tommy Patterson, artist for the comic book version of AGoT in discussing the difficulties of visualising the Others, supposedly posted in an essay by Tommy Patterson at the back of the collected edition of the comic book version where he discusses the various characters and in this case the very real problems in visualising the Others:

I had many talks with George. He told me of the ice swords, and the reflective, camouflaging armor that picks up the images of the things around it like a clear, still pond. He spoke a lot about what they were not, but what they were was harder to put into words. Here is what George said, in one e-mail: 'The Others are not dead. They are strange, beautiful… think, oh… the Sidhe made of ice, something like that… a different sort of life… inhuman, elegant, dangerous.

  2. Recently there were many great contribution, helping to better shape this community wiki. We have Also we have updated the Portal:Culture and Portal:Geography, some of the Timeline early entries and Portal:Characters should soon be reworked to include MUCH more of the characters we love to read about.

Obviously there is still much work to be done and anyone is welcome to contribute. Expanding and Improving articles, fixing errors such as grammar or spelling mistakes, updating the Chapters Summaries as you go over the books etc its all greatly appreciated by us all.

  3. Personally, I dont see fundamental problem with the POV that "he's a good leader despite being crippled", that is if his disability is somehow impairs his ability to be a leader or their society does so(as in the case of Tyrion). With that being said, I am not particularly familiar with this specific character or what type of leader he was. You obviously seem to know about this character more than I do, so I encourage you to fix this, after all this is a collaborative effort, we all do what we can and if some mistakes happen you should assume good faith. Besides, even seemingly amateurish articles can evolve into polished masterpieces ;)

P.S. I have long thought that our main articles should get some more polish, but with my English could do little to that effect.

Also if you need any help with our family trees, oat-of-arms or anything else just post here, I'll be glad to help with any technical stuff and I know others are happy todo so aswell.

EDIT: after catching up on I Willas I have edited his entry somewhat.

  4. I seen that edit, Great job, we really need more people who improve the flow of our main articles. As for those English atrocities, unfortunately in many cases it is my domain, but we all contribute in the way we can. Anyway good to see you aboard ;)

EDIT: I am the wrong person to answer on 'verb tense' but we have started a Manual_of_Style, to help with those issues and make sure that they are not lost.

  5. Good idea, I am not sure if we have any other articles that has the same issue to compare with, so IMO either that or this(if it is not to long):

Siege of Storm's End (Robert rebellion)

Siege of Storm's End (War of the five kings)

    could work.

  6. The Main_Page and few other Portals have been updated, to improve navigation and provide better access to various topics on the wiki. Recently we have also hit the 4,500 articles milestone! Congratulations everyone for your help and contribution, your effort is truly appreciate.

Everyone else are welcome, join us and help build up our community resource, either by editing or providing feedback, creatique or ideas on how further improve the wiki. (If you are a member just click the WIKI on the top bar otherwise try this new Registration guide).

Cheers and happy new year ;)

  7. we have an older discussion on this here: new-chapter-summaries at this point we have two option either move all the dance chapters or move all the rest (btw you can also use move, that arrow near history)

so the question is which format is better and I am wait to see what you guys has to say...

personally, I dont see the benefit in the newer format and think it less helpful in the references section, so I'd rather we rename ~60 not 4x~60 pages.(no bot)

  8. We just passed the 4250 pages mark!

We recently seen some more activity and I want to say thanks to everyone who is contributing and is trying to improve our wiki. spelling, linking, improving readability, adding content, etc everything counts! Great job everybody!

I would also like to congratulate our fellow editors at the french and newer russian sister projects for their ~4500 and ~1000 pages milestones. :grouphug:

  9. well I googled a little and :

asked about the RPG and he confirmed that he checked and provided background information for the concordanance, encyclopedia, geography, family and history sections, but had no say in the rules. The RPG is "canon" for the moment but he reserves the right to change any details in future novels. He did unreservedly approve of the artwork for the book.

Obviously the asoiaf book considered fully canon, the RPG seems to be considered canon, what else???? (obviously information in the books takes precedence but in the lack of thereof we should use it for example I recently used the currency info from the citadel.)

  10. Im new to the ASOIAF fandom but when i was reading alot of other sites when i was first learning about the series i had come across the same thing that ADWD would have been about danys landing with the dragons in westeros.

Obviously things have changed and it's gonna take more books for the truth to emerge. And i think 9 books is the magic number.

I thought that seven, was the magic number and now you talk of eight and even nine books!

*sighs*, why do I star reading all those endless series that hooks you up, like soap operas hooks Housewifes

  11. It was part of the old main page. Must have forgotten it when I redesigned it to the new one.

In the Tower of the Hand it is possible to choose the book where you are and then in pages you only see information up until that books. That is possible (after the extension is added) but it will be a lot of work to make the code and to link the information to a book (or maybe just to two level one with and the other without the spoilers).

I dont know how the tower of the hand does it but if you really want it, it's possible todo on mediawiki as well for example. but yeah it would be A LOT of work to tag everywhere with {{spoiler|adwd| ....text.....}} tags

  12. Does that means we are going to have two separated wiki's(or namespaces), otherwise if finding stuff you dont want using search is not a problem, then we can do the simple gateway/portal thingy, similar to how the french did it, only with a bigger button ;)

Btw, I would really appreciate some ideas with those categories and their names, this is the best I could come up with so far. (please ignore my notes there )

  13. Much like Kissed.By.Fire I love organization and continuity and I am trying to organize the categories to make sense of how things work. I'd appreciate ides and help from the more experienced guys, on how to group together all those categories:

    Category:Characters

    Category:Legendary Heroes

    Category:Houses

    Category:Family_trees

    Category:Occupations

    Category:Organizations

    Category:Members of the Faith

    Category:Maps

    Category:Continents

    Category:Places

    Category:Rivers

    Category:Roads

    Category:Seas

    Category:Terms

    Category:Events

    Category:Tourneys

    Category:Prophecy

    Category:Cultures

    Category:Religions

    Category:Creatures

    Category:Constellations

    Category:Books_and_Scrolls

    Category:Objects

    Category:Plants

    Category:Poisons

    Category:Ships

    Category:Books

    Category:Games

  14. 2 We have been thinking about adding extra filters (Show/Hide option) ; for some spoilers. I have an idea how to handle this but for it to work we need and extension of the wiki. And that is at the moment not possible (same problem as the Forum -> wiki connection).

Are you talking about the regular collapsible tables or some other extension? if its the former then all it takes is quick copy paste to common.css and common.js

if user JS is enabled, you could add that skin you made this functionality to test it.
