  1. So much of what we see as plot holes and discontinuities are the result of the producers/HBO deciding to end the show after 8 seasons, which is compounded by the decision to make seasons 7 and 8 w/ fewer (albeit slightly longer) episodes. It made sense, in the early years of the series, to make one season roughly equivalent to one book. The books were smaller and each one covered a relatively distinct time period. But once the show passed the books, why artificially limit the duration of the show? The show has eliminated many storylines that existed as of the end of book 5, and yet is having trouble winding the remaining ones in 8 seasons. GRRM can make books 6 and 7 a thousand pages or more if he wants. Why did the decision to truncate the series in a way that almost inevitably results in these discontinuities?
  2. It's not the distances that bother me so much, although Episode 6 was definitely the worst on that score. My biggest problem is the resurrection of Viserion: Where did the White Walkers find three lsuper heavy, long ass chains? How did the wights, who don't swim, attach the chains to Viserion?

But Elia didn't die giving birth to her and Rhaegar's third child, she was murdered by the Mountain. So when did she have a third child, especially since Aegon himself was still an infant? And then of course there is the inconvenient fact that Jon has the Stark looks. There is no way Elia is Jon's mother. He's either Ned's son by an unknown woman, or Lyanna's son by Rhaegar.

In the first season, Bran asks Ned if a man can be brave if he is afraid, and Ned answers that that is the only time a man can be brave. Azor Ahai cannot be reborn unless he first dies. "Kill the boy." "What is dead can never die."

In the books, Kevan isn't killed by Varys until some time after Cersei's return to the Red Keep. Could be several weeks, but certainly several days later, at the least. They'll probably drag out the wait for Cersei's trial next season, so Kevan will have some time to try to deal with the death of Myrcella before someone -- Littlefinger??-- decides to off him. Frankly, I figured Varys wasn't going to be killing Kevan once he went to Pentos and Volantis with Tyrion.

IRRC, Ghost was penned up away from the courtyard because he was annoying Wun Wun. So he wasn't in close proximity to Jon when he was attacked. We don't know where he is in the show. Either way, either Jon can warg into him when he's not close by, or he can't. Melisandre coming back to Castle Black is a little too convenient, so my guess is she's involved in Jon's "rebirth."
