Old Gimlet, you are definitely talking to someone that is not me. You might want to look up if I ever mentioned any interview. But then you know what? I do not care. Go on but I won't.

I do not get what you mean, your comment must be directed at someone else. i did not even read those interviews but I know what I see on screen. And Turner has so very much improved as actress, by now. A politician's job is to make statements, her or his statements and pronouncements are what we judge them by. And getting "bashed" for them is part of a democratic process, criticizing is in turn the job of opposition politicians. An actor's job though is to act. Do I care about Brad Pitt's twenty children or Sophie Turner's interviews? I care about the acting I see on screen or on stage. Comparing a politician's job in public to an actor's is, say, taking everything around celebrities a little too seriously. Not my thing but enjoy.

I see no reason to bash Sophie Turner (apart from seeing no reason to bash anyone) Her Sansa has made the character far more grownup, far more conflicted and ambiguous, in short far more interesting to me than she has been in the books so far. And the actress has learned so much! I guess book Sansa will get where show Sansa already is and I finally will be hugely interested in her book character as well. The showmakers for sure know more than we do.

"Foreshadowing" is actually one of those poisoned words in these forums, just like "agency" I take it back and stay with: if both characters are still alive in the end I believe they will be married when all is said and done and I have very good reasons for this opinion. Content? See, it did not take me many words to make you happy, sweetsunray

Actually the biggest foreshadowing is "and what if I never want?" From Sansa to Tyrion in their wedding night. That cries out aloud that some day she will want. This rhetorical question has been kept by the series, I am quite sure that we are supposed to remember that. Dislike can be expressed in many ways in a movie but this is an iconic phrase imo. But more important to me are the historical references Elisabetta Duo has so well explained in this thread: The marriage of Elizabeth of York - her little brothers were those poor princes in the Tower, who disappeared - and Henry VII, the last survivor of House Lancaster. This marriage ended the War of the Roses. It's earlier in this thread. These two were willing to marry since they were very much aware that this act could end the war. They had no doubt serious emotional obstacles to overcome before their marriage turned out relatively successful. This might be the case with Tyrion and Sansa as well. A painful past, emotional ties that cannot be forgotten and yet the willingness to look forward and to see each other as option. Basically the same situation like Cat and Ned: we do not know what Ned's dreams had been but Cat had wanted Brandon while Ned did not really impress her in the beginning. I am of course speculating, like the SanSan fan do as well. We all may end as fools in the end or we cheer as "I Told You So"s. But I believe that I have very good reasons for my prediction.

Why are you so fixated on one of thousand possible story outcomes, I do not understand that, not at all! Will you throw the books into the garbage if the outcome is different from what you want? Well, I won't. Otherwise I would have been done with the show and would be with the books after Shireen died. And I won't even if Tyrion or Lyanna Mormont should die, the other emotional catastrophes for me. Heading North - everybody is heading north for the ending or do you think Dany, Jorah or Tyrion will stay out of the central conflict? Start shipping Sansa with Dany now, she is heading north! Elisabetta Duo has made a case for Tyrion and Sansa ending together that argues far away from all sticky sweetness, it is purely based on Martin's awareness of history. And we can like those aspects applied here or not. Two historical Elisabeths. Have a good night!

    Tyrion + Sansa potentially Reunite

I do not disregard what Sansa feels. Nor do I ignore what Tyrion feels. Or Jon. Actually the human soul in conflict with itself is the stuff Martin's books are made of. I predict conflict, not so difficult. And Sansa will want what Martin wants her to want and do what the author wants her to do. She is the author's fictional creation, just like Tyrion. The complexity of "wanting" and not wanting something in Martin's world is not easy and straightforward, be it a king- or queendom or relationships. Yes, it might easily be that Tyrion and Sansa end up together even if they both had other loves, hopes and ideas originally. Counts just as much for any other possible pairing that might exist in the end. Two more books and at least fifteen episodes to come yet, just wait and see. ...... maybe Sansa and Tyrion will both be dead in the end.

    Tyrion + Sansa potentially Reunite

Whores go to the Vale??? This last sentence does not make much sense since you are constructing a scenario based on Tyrion being not even there to kill anyone. No, let's ignore that, not worth mentioning. And you automatically assume that Tyrion having done bad acts and confessing them would mean that Martin could not write a common story of Tyrion and Sansa? Sansa will only decide for someone who has nothing to confess? LOL! That leaves Pod, I guess, and maybe our good guy Jon, well why not, a good choice both of them. But would they choose Sansa? What if Sansa herself will have a lot to confess and to regret in the end? Who in this world has nothing to confess?! Apart from that Sansa knows very well what Tyrion did at Blackwater and that he killed Tywin, no secrets here. All pointless, it does not matter if some fans like Tyrion, Jon or Pod or not, if Martin decides that a certain pairing in between or as endgame makes sense storywise it will happen since the author wants it to happen.
  10. Woman of War

    Tyrion + Sansa potentially Reunite

People hardly get what they want in these books or series. If they are lucky though they might end with their second or third best option. The Selhoris slave prostitute was certainly meant to give us the lowest point of Tyrion's arc and to show us how much he was disgusted by himself. This would have been an important element of his character description in the show as well, in order to build up his character again and Dinklage would have been the actor to give us the whole complexity of Tyrion's character. Only this part was never in the show, only the fact that Tyrion is an alcoholic. And so it does not matter if show Sansa would ever want a "sex slave raping" Tyrion since there is no such Tyrion in the show. And in the books - how could Sansa ever know about that dark scene if Tyrion is not the one who tells her himself about his worst moments? There would be talk about far more awful things he did, for whatever reason. They would have to talk about, for example, how it feels to napalm a whole enemy fleet, to kill one's own father. And if Sansa and Tyrion ever arrive to tell each other their worst secrets then they would have come very close to trust and friendship already. So that disgusting Selhoris scene is a zero argument when it comes to Sansa's opinion of Tyrion.

    Tyrion + Sansa potentially Reunite

Actually It is an interesting debate about whether the Tyrion/Sansa marriage might be still valid or not. If it is they both cannot remarry and start other marriage alliances or valid Highborn marriages. But a marriage in the name of the Seven or under a Weirwood tree is valid everywhere, the contract - and a marriage was a very important contract for nobility in a timesetting like that - was valid everywhere, otherwise Ned and Cat would have had to marry twice. Their marriage was an important alliance between two great Houses, there could not be left any room for doubt. But one thing is true: An autocratic ruler can declare anything invalid or valid if it fits his or her politics. But even Henry VIII saw that it was not recommended politically to pressure everything, he had to create an ideological veil of religious justification (or an accusation of adultery, too bad but necessary, hélas) to go through with ending a marriage. Though in show universe they brushed off those technicalities in a very casual manner. But for the fate and the personal happiness of Tyrion and Sansa in the end this little problem won't be as important as people make it here in these forums. It's more the historical references - a marriage in order to make peace - that are fascinating and of which Martin is no doubt very much aware. Certainly Tyrion will not chain Sansa to the wall of Casterly Rock or of his newly founded wine cellar in order to keep her from running away. And certainly Sansa will not feed him some love potion to force him into consummation. If they want to say hello but good bye to each other they will simply ride into opposite directions, legally married or not. And if they wish to be married, for personal or political reasons, they can simply play it safe and marry again.

    Tyrion + Sansa potentially Reunite

Elizabetta Duo, this is a great Post! The only nitpicking would be that I cannot see how Sansa could get any claim to the throne on her own right. I think she would have to be someone's queen consort first. The only possibility would be as wife and queen of whoever is king or as queen regent to a child from this guy if that King is dead. Since Jon is not her brother but her cousin I cannot see Sansa getting a claim via Jon as his sister and legal successor. Baelish getting the throne, Sansa marrying him and then.... But your post has made clear where all the legal complications lie.

How would you rate episode 602?

This was an excellent episode. I am not one who always needs wild action scenes and breathtaking fights though I love them from time to time. But I am not bored without them. I enjoy subtleties just as much and there were a lot of it. Cersei-Tommen-Jaime-High Sparrow, now we know why they needed a good actor for Tommen. Sansa and Briennne, Sansa and Theon, Meera and Asha, sorry, Yara is Asha to me, I am not tone deaf. A propos, the music was not as spectacular as in he first episode but just as good. I loved it when Tyrion told the dragons that touching childhood story exactly like it was in the books. Tyrion is bitter now but he could really stop going at Varys, we got it, writers. Let him be bitter elsewhere. But Varys looking at Tyrion - let the forum burn Arya desperately fighting where there was nothing, that was so Arya. Now we all want to know if Jon is still the same nice guy. I would not like it if having been dead has no impact at all, if he can simply go on and have a complete and normal human life after that. Martin knows his philosophy, will he belittle death as ultimate challenge, as ultimate affront to mankind? What I did I not like was Roose getting killed, he should have continued to be the great villain he was and McElhatton was fantastic. Walda and her baby - that was to be expected, after Shireen my soul has turned to ice. The man of my heart watched with me and despite loving the episode he would certainly give no more than 8 for a very trivial reason: the episode was too dark, for some parts we could not see much since we don't have a movie hall at home.
  15. Woman of War

How would you rate episode 601?

I gave it an 8. there was Dorne....ok....we know by now...it won't be over since there are the two assassins left, so let's see what the show is going to make of them. I nurture a tiny sparkle of hope that Areo is not dead in the end, I guess I am delusional but he did not deserve this banality of an exit. And the Varys/Tyrion dialogue was a bit lacking, we know that Tyrion makes cock jokes by now. If they want to present his cynicism they could have found something else! I expect more from Tyrion, make better use of Dinklage! I loved Cersei, Headey was great, and Jaime, this is promising and it is far better for the story if Jaime and Cersei do not fall apart so soon. Theon and Sansa running was so well done, the light, the colors. It's always Sansa who gets the best coloring, the best use of light and optical effects, magical. Yes, there is inconsistency with dogs and surviving the water. I have run marathons myself at below zero degrees C. If they had taken their clothes over their head before going into the water they could have been fine. But this is nitpicking, it does not diminish the beauty of the scene. I liked the desperate moment of closeness between the two. And the oath was so beautiful. Of course Sansa takes every advice she can get, in that case from Theon, her next advisor may be Pod or Brienne. It would rather be unbelievable if Sansa in that situation could have recited the oath properly. And I am sure there is a reason Pod has to be established, once again, as being far more clever than he appears. He did his best to fight, touching. Davis was, once again, great. The athmosphere at the wall, everything had that melancholic tension. And I liked how the Melisandre revelation was done. She had given up, no need anymore to keep any illusion not for others nor for herself, withthat look into the mirror she said goodbye to the world and she went to bed, maybe hoping she might sleep forever. yes, they had the courage to show a really old woman naked, nice subversion of all image of GOT.

[Poll] How would you rate episode 510?

I'd sign every word you wrote about Feast and Dance. I loved both books with the exception of, well, some chapters. And I was really disappointed that they did not present my favorite character's, Tyrion's, descent into moral and emotional misery in the show, the more a pity since they have an actor with Dinklage who could have given us all that and yet return to the complex antihero character Tyrion we will root for when the story goes on. A character may have been down there and yet he can decide to do the right thing - and is not beyond that artificial moral event horizon lesser books try to sell to us. In some undefined future I would love to read an interview with D&D why they decided to take away from Tyrion and from Dinklage - beyond the always working and certainly realistic excuse lack of screen time. There are other issues like why is Ellaria not the voice of peace and reason, meaning Martin's voice, but the voice of revenge? Will they give her a slow and cruel learning arc at the expense of one or more of her daughters? A character who seeks revenge over all is doomed in Martin's universe, one of the most important author's messages. And readers who cheer for cheap catharic revenge will be disappointed. But it is the message, the spirit, that has to be kept in, not the details. Some of us love some of the characters and their story while others, who would have thought, love other elements. We all have different favorite characters and of course their respective story is the essential one that should be sacrosanct. Some changes are necessary, given that there are seven series and, who would have thought, 500 fans have 1000 different opinions here. I e.g. love the changes done to Cersei, she is better and more complex in the show. I believe the changes done to Sansa are a good thing or at least will pay off in the end. The actress is great where she is but would be a miscast as little girl charming hollow boys. I do not miss much of the Ironborn apart from Asha. The animalistic sex appeal of one eyed pirates killing women is lost on me. Remember that dance group where the female dancers landed right on the erect penises of the male ones? Ouch!!!! I can do without. Ridiculous writing from Martin's side, sorry. Talk about sexposition in the show! A big LOL! Actually i do not think that showing sex and naked people, called "nudity" in US America-speak, is anyhow negative. Like everything else it is only bad when poorly done - which sometimes happened in the show. But there would have been no excuse for including that disastrous dance scene from the books. And what is "gratitious"??? Gratitious dinner descriptions, elaboration of costumes and dresses (I love the costume design in the show), gratitious sex, gratitious architecture descriptions - everything that puts flesh on the bare story bones is gratitious. Everything that makes a story, books or series, come alive. Puritans stay away! I have some issues with the books and yet I love them more than most I have ever read. And I have some issues with the show. And yet I love it. Maybe the last episode was not more than a nine due to the overuse of cliffhangers, certainly something done in favor of the author, so he can tell his own story first. But I gave it a ten since I am thoroughly annoyed about the insulting, poor mannered and pubertarian schoolyard bully way some people treat the showmakers in this forum, not necessarily in this thread. (Though I would not know, I have the worst on ignore ;) )The showmakers are after all artists like me, only on another field. Why would they ever take any critic serious that personally insults them and calls them names. I guess they have given up reading this forum at all, the bridges will be burned by now.

I wished more of those heavily critical posters would admit that they first of all want the show to be great. Actually love and hatred, not indifference belong together as emotional investment. Which in no way justfies the hatespeak towards the showmakers in many posts, that is simply juvenile.

[Poll] How would you rate episode 510?

LOLI gave it a ten and I am proud of it ;) I might have given the episode a nine because there was one or two cliffhangers too much for my taste but I am quite sure that the showmakers agreed with Martin to let him write his story without having it spoiled. Actually the series might have been even better in itself if the show had cared less about giving Martin the time he needs.

This I think the showmakers were really careful here. No, I am not so happy about all those cliffhangers since I somewhat dislike cliffhanger overuse but it is obvious that the last episode precisely took up and collected all those damn open questions. And now Martin is free to answer them first and in his own way. Which makes me believe that the next book wil come out before the next season. That way we can enjoy both: eat the cookie and have it
