    Netflix's The OA: Part II

I was waiting for Homer to show up and eat the fish, shame that didn’t happen. That’s if I understood it right, that their NDA’s were out of sync with the timeline they jumped to. OA said that it was Homer crawling around in the ceiling.

    Avengers Endgame- SPOILERS

I was thinking the same thing with that scene being too on the nose, the IW one is fine where a few females just happen to meet in battle ... but that takes some coordination, to get literally the entire female cast breaking off for their own assault. That was probably the only time in the film I lost the flow a bit, ant man and the wasp were doing something in the van, then somebody threw something, then a bunch of people were fighting Thanos? Didn’t quite follow the logic of that section.

    Avengers Endgame- SPOILERS

That would actually tidy things up immensely to have him reappear on the platform, and wouldn’t really have taken much from the scene. Maybe The Ancient One’s concerns were about Dormammu, who was still a threat then. Then once he’s defeated, Doctor Strange defends it for regular reasons, like not snapping half the universe to death. I could see them mining some comedy from it, have Ned and Peter discussing which girls got hotter in their 20’s, which girls grew up to their age and such. I assume Ned was snapped from the look of him. But yea, gonna have to live with the fact that the main cast of Homecoming just happened to get snapped.

    Avengers Endgame- SPOILERS

Good point, he could have easily left her alone for for a few years I guess. And now that I think about it, her line “you came back to me” in Winter Soldier could be taken a different way now. Although I still can’t square this with Banner’s time travel theory. It’s also a bit weird to consider Old Cap having to leave Peggy’s bedside to make sure he doesn’t bump into Young Cap. Also, is Agents of SHIELD gonna have to crowbar in a 5 year gap now? In which some subset of them are 5 years older and some aren’t? Yea I noticed that, maybe it’s the easiest thing to pretend meant something after the fact. It feels weird now, as there was no setting up of any kind, we have no idea what’s gonna happen. What’s the over arching plot now? Who are the Avengers? Are there Avengers at all? There’s not an obvious leader and no HQ, so maybe not? Strange times.

    Avengers Endgame- SPOILERS

Ok, it was awesome. Of course. But I have some nagging time travel questions: As far as Hulk’s explanation goes, you can go back and change whatever you like and it doesn’t affect this version of the present. Which I loved, and I actually think this is how time travel would work. And The Ancient One’s argument was basically ‘yes, taking the time stone would be great for your reality, not for mine’. So they agree to return it. Presumably, Cap revisits each of these alternate realities and returns the stones, and their futures play out kinda similar. I don’t really like the idea of a Loki series taking place in an alternate reality, I’d prefer the suggestion that Cap fixed this somehow, or maybe that you can choose to time travel in the same reality if you want to, and Tony and Cap go to the past of the Loki-Steals-Tesseract universe in the 70’s and that somehow undoes the post-Avengers 1 stuff. But how then does Old Cap end up back in the same reality? Does he intentionally return the stones to their realities, then chooses to go to the 1940’s of this universe, then grows old along side all the events we see? So who does young Cap go and see in the hospital in Winter Soldier, is that a Peggy that remembers their life together? At the least, Agent Carter has been erased. Maybe you could fudge things and say she had Alzheimer’s so it could’ve been the same Peggy. Or, did he go back, dance with her, then leave her and end up with someone else? Basically it all works fine (if you don’t really look into the ethics of screwing with other realities) except for Old Cap. That I suspect doesn’t have a good answer, other than the Russo’s wanted these rules for time travel, but also wanted that ending for Cap.

Do you mean Infinity War? Captain Marvel was just a comedic scene where something we knew full well was going to happen ... happened. Unless you mean the mid-credit scene, but then if that is or isn’t in Endgame, I don’t want to know. I’d grant you Infinity War, but they’ve mostly been entirely disposable for a long time. There’s been very few that aren’t either scenes borrowed from an upcoming film, or are just a quick joke that nothing really turns on.

That’s interesting if there’s no post-credit scene, I’ve been thinking for a while that they might have regretted doing those. I’ll still watch to the end just in case (or, to not look a fool in front of all the other Marvel fans ) but they’ve been phoning them in for a while. Maybe they figured this is as good a movie as any to kill them off and there won’t be any going forward.

Ah, I see what you’re saying. Sorry. But I think they first showed up toward the end of season 3, or whenever Civil War was released. Then had more of an arc around it in season 4.

Yea, in which they doubled down on their interpretation of the Accords. I’m not saying it’s impossible they had multiple parts to the Accords, but if they did the movie never mentioned them.

I think they saw the scripts and did what they could with it, I don’t buy for a second that the movies made any accommodations at all for AoS. And with Civil War... ...I’m not even sure they saw a script for that. I can’t remember the details, but I’m pretty sure AoS assumes the accords are about registering, when Civil War never mentions that. They only ever talk about the Avengers needing UN permission before being deployed. It seems to me like AoS guessed that they’d use the comics version of Stark and Cap’s disagreement which they didn’t.
  11. Well, that was visually amazing. Probably the highest budget looking episode of Trek. It seems a bit strange to make the entire ending of a season about a bunch of other people, focusing on setting up Spock on the Enterprise rather than what happened to Discovery. And it went a bit overboard on ‘we will never, ever, speak of Discovery again’ - I think the series had already done enough just by propelling the ship to the future to make it believable that no one really mentions it. So 950 years ... still rather it was after Voyager so everyone could all enjoy the spore drive in the ‘present’. I wonder if the Federation is still around? I seem to recall the time ships that showed up in Voyager were the 29th century?

I think the idea was that Hydra’s algorithm sought out potentially problematic people once they revealed themselves to the world. So maybe they scanned Steven Strange and determined he might take issue with Hydra and led a rebellion or something. He doesn’t have to become a wizard to be a problem for Hydra. Granted, it’s a bit strange that he was the second name on Sitwell’s mind when he explained it.

If you’re just talking about MCU movies that connect with AoS and not the other way around, then I believe the last one was ... ...they never have. Entirely one way traffic. AoS just gradually stopped bothering, they mentioned Civil War (and assumed it’d be be the same as the comics when it wasn’t really) and gave a quick nod to Infinity War.
  14. Soooooo ..... are they gonna jump to post Voyager times? *crosses all available fingers* Spock is on the wrong ship, and Georgiou is if they want her spin off series in the same time frame. But they did a thorough job of saying their goodbyes, it’s looking promising.

Sokovia is the only part of the film that she could have helped with anyway - the problem up until then was that he was all over the internet and no amount of fighting would solve that. What would Carol have done to help in the first two thirds?

I could never figure out why they needed an official timeline, just assuming the films happened when they were released seemed to be working fine, then they started shifting the early ones around. I liked hearing Vision say “in the 8 years since Mr Stark revealed the Iron Man suit” cos you could think “hmm, 2008 ... yea that’s true”. As far as I know there’s no theory where the “8 years later” in Homecoming makes sense, that was just the flat out wrong number and I don’t understand how it made it to the final film.

Something I’d like to see more of is public perception of all the changes that have gone on since 2008, can you even begin to imagine how huge it’d be if these people existed? Bearing in mind that the MCU is fictional and it’s already pretty freaking popular. Let’s say Elon Musk built an Iron Man suit in 2008, then did a bunch of stuff that was regarded as positive in 2008 and 2010, then literally saved the world from aliens in 2011? How much good will would he have in the bank? We get a look at some kids playing with Cap dolls in Jessica Jones, which implies there’s a brand here that would be making insane amounts of money (I reckon Tony could easily make the Avengers profitable). That kind of good will and cash could buy some serious influence if you know what you’re doing, I could picture the Avengers having a few people in their pocket in government, and some in media. Much as I love Winter Soldier, the existence of SHIELD made all this way more palatable, if SHIELD was already a branch of government and the Avengers were a subset of them. But yea, quite what the government was doing about them between SHIELD’s collapse and Civil War remains to be seen.
  18. Do you think there’s going to be more explanation for the suit? Or ... is it capable of both instantaneous time and space travel, despite apparently being built 20 odd years ago?

That was Vue, luckily I happened to read on Facebook that the Showcase app was selling them but not the website - got dead centre, Thursday 11:00! Boo-yah!

    MCUniverse: Cat Scratch Fever edition.

I think the Accords came about after the Avengers went from country to country as they pleased, so maybe they’re mainly focused on some formal way of requesting their help ... Spidey staying in the US might have helped, be good to see a mention in Far From Home. Or maybe, if people remember The Snap in any way, nobody really cares anymore. EDIT: actually thinking about it, surely he would have signed up as part of Team Stark when he went to Germany?

    MCUniverse: Cat Scratch Fever edition.

I dunno, a plain old tease-the-next-film seems a bit too run of the mill for Endgame. And I don’t think X-Men or FF will be anywhere near planned enough to do anything with. I’ll go with - Bucky picking up a dead Cap’s shield or something. Or maybe nothing, maybe they kill them off for Phase 4 seeing as they’ve been half-hearted for a long while now (mid-credits: footage from another film, end credits: light hearted and completely missable).

UK Politics: What Goes DUP Must Come Down

As tempting as it is to blame May, the government, and just generally call the whole thing a shit show, I really don’t see that many paths to a successful and orderly exit from the EU. Maybe the whole A50 process just isn’t up to the job, it’s not like it’s been tested before. I mean be honest, how many times have you been truly surprised at a single day’s news? The whole thing seems so nebulous that nobody made any good predictions early on, but really, it seems like everyone has just acted as we expected them to. This is just how the algorithm plays out. Had May been open to a bunch of soft-Brexit options, would the hard Brexiteers have made it any easier to get through parliament? If she’d have got a UK approved deal first before taking it to the EU, would it have been negotiable, or would this whole three years have played out the same but just the other way around? I don’t know. I can’t see many parallel universes where this has all gone any differently.

I’ve had my local Showcase’s tweets set on ‘notify’ for weeks now, I keep snapping my phone out of my pocket every time I get an alert. Aiming for the earliest Thursday non-3D showing, near as I can get to penultimate row centre (I haven’t thought about this too much or anything). Speaking of 3D, I haven’t bothered with it for years now but a buddy of mine really rated Captain Marvel in 3D. Has it improved much? It’s surprisingly limiting for cinema times, 3D gets the larger screens, the better sound, and the times that don’t sit right over a mealtime.
  25. As far as my conversation with Wert went a few pages back, the Prime Universe, the JJ verse and the Mirror Universe are all coexisting parallel universes. Then there’s time splits within a universe, such as Yesterday’s Enterprise and (conjecture at this point) possibly the Red Angel’s interactions with this (prime) universe. But we don’t know if all the events of the prime universe are a result of her interactions, or whether this is a tangent from the prime that will get undone (or not). So if it’s a tangent, then we have possible reason Spock never mentioned Michael (she died when he was young). But I’m willing to bet it’s not considering all the efforts they’ve gone to to crowbar this stuff into the Prime, seems silly to then cop-out like that.
